The Kano state police command has issued an official statement on the arrest of a former governor of Jigawa state, Mr. Sule Lamido on Sunday in Kano.

Police spokesperson, Mr. Samba Sokoto gave an official reason for the arrest, stating that the former governor was arrested for making statements capable of inciting violence. Sokoto added that Lamido's offense was contrary to section 114 of the penal code. He revealed that investigations were ongoing and that Lamido will be charged to court soon.

Politics Nigeria learned that the police launched an investigation into Lamido's affairs after a petition was received from the Jigawa state government against the former governor on April 27th. The petition accused Lamido of asking his supporters to resort to violence if the July 1 LG elections did not favor them.

Sokoto also stated that the AIG of police in charge of Kano zone, Aderanti Kayode promised to fair in the conduct of investigations.

The petition was originally sent by Ikenna Ekpunobim, a legal counsel to the present governor of Jigawa state, Governor Badaru Abubakar. The petition alleged that Lamido made the statements below in Hausa at a PDP meeting in Dutse, Jigawa.

“Before the election, I will make every one of you swear with his life to protect our cause. No matter what, I will not listen to you for complaining. All I want is to come for your bail in the police station breaking another person’s head or you fought someone because the administration belongs to mad people,”

After his arrest earlier on Sunday, Lamido’s houses in Kano and Jigawa were searched by the police. As at 11 pm, Sunday night, Mr. Lamido is still being detained. He may be charged to court on Tuesday.

Below is the petition that was written to the police by the Jigawa state government;

I don't support violence but this is what happens when a former governor and current governor are not in good terms.
People should not say because their is freedom of speech they should say things that can ignite violence in an environment where by little things cause trouble due to the fact that there is hunger in town.
It has been said there is freedom of speech, but is freedom after speech guaranteed.

Nigeria is a comedy central.

grin

Sule Lamido: “Before the election, I will make every one of you swear with his life to protect our cause. No matter what, I will not listen to you for complaining. All I want is to come for your bail in the police station breaking another person’s head or you fought someone because the administration belongs to mad people,”

PMB: “If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood."

Now tell me who between the two should be in jail. The irony is, one is in jail while the other is the President

If there's any justice left in this country, Buhari should be Cooling his ass off in jail. Because he said worse.

Like Buhari, Sule is only trying to silly-talk his way to the presidency, since that seems to work in Nigeria.

Sule Lamido sef. grin

He is not fit for president. A man that was probe for corruption by a corrupt GEJ regime is not fit. A man alleged to be inciting people to violence is not the best for the job of being a president.
