£12.5 MILLION, 13 GAMES, ZERO GOALS: WHAT'S WRONG WITH ISAAC SUCCESS?
By Shina Oludare

Isaac Success has failed to score in his last 13 Premier League matches, his longest drought ever in professional football, but what exactly has gone wrong?

In 2016, Watford forked out a club-record fee to bring the forward to Vicarage Road following his impressive run with Granada, but since Success's arrival, it's fair to say that the Hornets have not received great value for their money as the Nigerian looks to have lost his Midas touch.

The 21-year-old made a low-key debut on August 27 2016, and registered his first goal four games later against Bournemouth.
After that, the one-cap Super Eagles hitman has played 13 times for Watford, failing to find the net even once – which could be a cause for his team’s blip over the past few games

In last Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Hull City, he offered next-to-nothing as he failed to muster one shot on target during a game in which he was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Hornets attack after replacing Nordin Amrabat, and it remains to be seen whether he will start against Liverpool on Monday evening.

Aside his injury worries, it is difficult to explain Success’ problems, although one theory is that he is less comfortable with Walter Mazzarri’s tactics than he was in his previous set-up at Granada.

However, former Real Madrid midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has contrary opinion – he feels the forward is still trying to adapt to English football, while suggesting he works harder during trainings to get back to his best.

''There's no cause for worry about [Success's] lack of goals, every good striker undergoes a drought at one point in time or the other,’’ Adepoju told Goal.

''For now it could be difficult for him getting the goals because at Watford, he plays more as a supporting striker but I believe with hardwork and focus especially during training, he will surely get back his form.''

Despite Success’ struggles, he remains a key figure in Mazzarri’s squad and still gets a fair share of action on matchdays despite the January arrivals of M'Baye Niang and Stefano Okaka.

The season may be drawing to a close, but the Nigerian must start firing on all cylinders as soon as possible for the sake of his club and for his own future. Should he continue with this unproductive spell – he might just be shipped out of Vicarage Road at the end of the season.

Out of the 13 games in how many did he play more than 15mins?

Besides he is being played as a winger and not as a striker.

That's the thing.

Many of these so called street clubs built a reputation and have sold multiple players to big sides. I am not talking about your typical road side team.

For instance, From Muntunchi Academy, Musa Yahaya, Moses John of Porto, and Ajax recently signed a kid named Aliyu Mahmoud.

Football College Abuja is another one that has been successful in selling multiple talents abroad.

Simon Moses is from GBS Academy. Gent went back there and signed two more Nigerians.

These clubs are not randomly choosing academies. The club close to you has not yet gotten the reputation. They choose the ones with some reputation.

You have to understand the business model of these people. They simply rely on players sales to stay afloat. To that end they seek partnership with clubs abroad. Abuja academy have such relationship with Tresin.
They also have established relationship with agents who come to Africa for scouting. The ones with buoyant proprietors attend competitions abroad where their players are exposed to prospective buyers.

Those who get signed by NPFL clubs are released on loan. (70% of NPFL players are actually on loan from these "academies" , the loan fees are renued every season). It may interest you to know Chisom Egbuchulam is not a Rangers player, Obinna Nwobodo is not a Rangers player, even Ahmed musa was not a property of Kano pillars, Venlo paid his transfer fee to Gbs academy not Kano pillars.

These "academies " are not doing anything so special. The way they draw superlatives from you, one will think they are running a world class business model whereas, they get get their bread and butter from established relationships with agents and nothing more.

Nwokem, what's your point exactly? They ain't worth being termed an Academy or they ain't producing stars as they would, if they were better ran? U just stated how they manage to remain afloat. That's their business strategy and it has been working for them and with time, things will improve. Remember these nurseries are run by private individuals with little or no support from anywhere and whatever that keeps their ship afloat, let it sail.

The question have always been why do academies seem to export players abroad than the NPFL. You obviously came in the middle of this and didn't follow up on previous discussions.

Exactly, the objectives of the academies is to hawk players abroad while NPFL clubs aim to perform well in the league to justify government subventions given to them.

Man City to use Iheanacho makeweight in massive Aubameyang deal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Would Man City be willing to part with Kelechi Iheanacho in order to land BVB star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?

The football world's gossip mill is in full swing, and Transfer Talk is monitoring the whispers ahead of all the summer moves. Check out the latest deals and potential deals here.

Man City's plan to lure Aubameyang

Manchester City know that they'll need to offer Borussia Dortmund a pretty sweet deal if they are to cash-in on highly prized asset Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon international is one of Europe's very best strikers, having found the back of the net 35 times this season, and cash alone may not be enough to convince Thomas Tuchel's side to sell.

The Sun, however, says that there has been a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs, with Pep Guardiola reportedly prepared to offer 20-year-old wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho as a sweetener to get the £60 million deal across the line.

Iheanacho has fallen down the City pecking order since Gabriel Jesus' arrival in January, and a move to the Bundesliga may appeal to the striker, who is chasing game time to ensure he's part of Nigeria's 2018 World Cup plans.

- Henry Onyekuru could be set for a move to Goodison Park with Ronald Koeman and Everton said to be interested in the KAS Eupen winger, says the Sun.

The 19-year-old Nigerian is also a reported target of Celtic, Southampton and Sevilla.

- Some manager news from L'Equipe now, who are reporting that Southampton boss Claude Puel might not be long for St Mary's.

His team are a respectable ninth in the Premier League table, but in the fickle world of top-flight management, doubt still clouds Puel's future in the Saints dugout.

Exclusive – Red Hot Onyekuru Refuses To Deny Contact With Everton

English Premier League side Everton have jumped ahead of the chasing pack for the signature of Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru who has taken the league by storm this season in Belgium.

Onyekuru has 18 goals in all competitions this season for modest side Eupen, in what is his debut season in the top flight in Belgium. A form which has lead to interest from various top teams in Europe.

The Hot in demand KAS forward, who admitted he has interest from couple of teams in England, where West Brom and Southampton has been mentioned has also attracted attention from teams in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig among the team chasing his signature.
However, following rumours of Everton interest in his services,

Owngoalnigeria.com sought to hear from the forward if at all he is aware of their interest.

” I read somewhere that I met with Everton during the week. I won’t say anything about that for now, but in the coming days my next destination will be revealed”, Onyekuru told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” The main goal for me now is to go to a club where I can develop, and hopefully make the Nigerian team to the 2018 World Cup, that will play a big role in my decision making”.

Nigerian Wonderkid To Cherry-Pick As Everton Join Arsenal, Chelsea In Race For Signature

Everton are exploring ways to sign Eupen's Nigerian wonderkid Henry Onyekuru in the summer transfer market, according to reports.

The Sun says the Toffees recently traveled to Belgium to close a deal for the striker, and would have to pay a large fee and wages to get Onyekuru as he has no caps for the Super Eagles.

The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Southampton, West Brom and Celtic are also in the hunt for Onyekuru, and he will have to choose the best option.

Apart from British clubs, the Aspire Academy product has been linked with possible moves to Club Brugge, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 19-year-old Onyekuru has netted 19 goals this season and is in the running for the Ebony Shoe award.

Exclusive – Lokeren In Pole Position To Sign Theophilus Solomon Despite Late Interest From Roda JC

Belgium top division side Lokeren are still the front runners to sign Nigerian forward Theophilus Solomon despite a late push by Dutch side Roda JC.

The Technical Director of Lokeren met with Theophilus Solomon who is on loan to NK Istra from league leaders Rijeka, and they had fruitful discussion in Croatia regarding a move in the summer.

However last week Roda JC Kerkrade joined the hunt for the forward who has 7 goals this season, and reports has it that a scout from the team watched Solomon in action against Hajduk Split yesterday.

Despite the interest from the Dutch side, who are obviously going to pay him more than what he might possibly earn at Lokeren, Lokeren are still in the driving seat to sign him.

Lokeren’s Technical Director shares close ties with Solomon, and their relationship could see him lure the forward who appears to be finally delivering on the promises that made him a target of Italian giants Juventus when he was 17.

Special mentions to guys like Moses odubajo, I pray hull doesn't get relegated, Sone Aluko, I pray Fulham secures promotion to the EPL. Kingsley Ehizibue, I pray Pec Zwole also Survives the drop, Francis Uzoho, I hope deportivo beats the drop.

Celtic, Club Brugge, FCK Target Odey Off To Abuja Tuesday, Agent Rules Out Move To Russia

The bonafide representative of Mountain of Fire sensation Stephen Odey has ruled out a transfer to the Russian Premier League in the summer transfer window.

FK Krasnodar have tested the waters regarding the acquisition of the leading scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, but his advisers would prefer him to start his career outside Nigeria with a Scandinavian team, FC Copenhagen to be specific, and have turned down the proposal from Russia.

''Odey is presently in Nigeria, he has been called up for the friendly against Corsica and will travel to Abuja tomorrow for a visa interview,'' a Mountain of Fire insider told
allnigeriasoccer.com .

''We have heard of the interest from Celtic but they have not officially approached MFM. Agents representing teams in Germany, France and Club Brugge have officially written to MFM.

''We should not forget that Odey just left secondary school. He is still 19 and will not be allowed to go to Russia which is too cold. He will consider an offer from FC Copenhagen.''

Odey was signed by MFM after starring for Dairy Farm Senior Secondary, Agege during the GTB Principals Cup.

Now see what Owngoalnigeria has to say on Odey......

..........................................................................................................

MFM Deny Celtic, Copenhagen Interest In Odey, Confirms Contract Offer From FK Krasnodar

Nigeria Professional Football League side MFM FC have categorically denied reports about a bid from Scottish champions Celtic for top striker Stephen Odey.

A club source who spoke to Owngoalnigeria.com revealed the club have only received one offer for the 19 year old, and it came from Russian side FK Krasnodar.

” We read these things and laugh over it. So far only Kuban Krasnodar have been in touch officially. They sent us a mail which contained an offer for Odey. So I wonder where talks about Celtic came from,” he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” FC Copenhagen offered to have him on trail, through an agent but his manager said Odey won’t be going for any trials. Talking about Celtic those peddling the rumours should know that Odey is not qualified for a work permit yet.

” He will leave for Russia before the end of the week. He is going for negotiations with FK Krasnodar and that has been agreed on by the management, so for now that is our stand.”

MFM’s Ilechukwu: I Love Mourinho And His Drama; Clubs Are Offering Me Big Money

Mountain of Fire And Miracles FC coach Fidelis Ilechukwu in this exclusive interview with Completesportsnigeria.com's IZUCHUKWU OKOSI speaks on the Lagos club, their objectives, transfer rumours on star players Steven Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun, his love for Jose Mourinho, as well as how some top NPFL clubs are keen to sign him…

Does the transfer interest in your key players like Steven Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun give you cause for concern, will that distract the players or motivate them to help MFM achieve your ambitions?

To me Odey's and Sikiru's transfer interest is a big motivation to our team and the other players. I am very happy about the development. It shows we are doing something right at the club and it has shown on match days.

Before the start of this season, what were the areas that gave you cause for worry: was it fair officiating, crowd trouble or any other, and what has been your assessment of these factors so far?

Hmm…Officiating? Believe me the League Management Company (LMC) have done their best but some officials can never change and I don't like talking about officiating. The crowd trouble is still there though it has reduced unlike in the past.

You have one game in hand to overtake Plateau United at the top of the table. Are the teams on top of the table the ones you expect to be there? Are you surprised the likes of Enyimba, Kano pillars are not the ones you are fighting with at the top?

No I am not surprised because the league title is still open. It's just the first half of the season. Any team can come up and overtake those at the top. Rangers won it last year. Any team can win it.

Which matches have been your most difficult this season?

Plateau United honestly. They were the league leaders as at the time and played good football despite our 2-1 win. They have an experienced coach in Kennedy Boboye and quality players. We were lucky to have defeated them because that motivated us in subsequent matches.

You have so many fans who watch you on television and in the stadiums. Why are you so animated on the touchline? You are now called the Antonio Conte of Nigerian league…

(Laughs) I appreciate the love and support of the fans. I love Conte's actions and goal celebration on the touchline but I am a huge fan of Jose Mourinho. The thing is that I love so many coaches but I like Conte's celebrations I must confess and I'm crazy about Mourinho drama, he makes the Premier league very interesting to follow.

Will MFM sign players before the second stanza of the league or you will make do with your players?

Yes, we will sign four or five players and get two or three from grassroots clubs

And some of your players will be heading to the exit door?

Yes. Some of our players will be leaving us but I will not want to say anything about it further for now. We shall make it public next week (players leaving MFM).

Finally, any approaches from other clubs who appreciate your work this season? Which clubs if indeed there are clubs knocking on the door?

I have top clubs in the NPFL who want me with good money, I must say. But for me, MFM is the best club in NPFL. I'm happy at MFM, so why leave. I am happy where I am now.

Chukwu: Rangers Never Sabotaged Coach Amapakabo

Nigeria legend and Chief Executive Officer of Enugu Rangers, Christian Chukwu, OFR, has strongly rebufed talks about former NPFL title winning coach, Imama Amakapabo being sabotaged, leading to his eventual suspension few weeks before the end of the first round of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Amakapabo, a former Nigeria junior international goalkeeper, ended Rangers 32-year-old title drought with last season's NPFL title haul.

But strings of embarrassing results in the domestic top fflight and an early exit from the CAF Champions League in the hands of Zamalek of Egypt as well as a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup twisted the arms of the Enugu club to hand him indefinite suspension and eventual sacking.

Amakapabo saw his ouster as product of sabotage, insisting this was so because players he wanted to bolster the squad with were not cleared by the hierarchy of the club.

Chukwu, a former coach of the club and ex-Super Eagles gaffer ,reckons such claims were unfounded.

"There is nothing about sabotage here, I must say, even though I'm not in a position to talk on that because I just came in as General Manager," Chukwu states .

"These things happened under the former administration.

"So I don't know the reason those players were not cleared. Maybe there was no funds.

"But even when they were not cleared, we had the bulk of our last season's squad that won the league still intact.

"We didn't lose any player during the transfer window.

"But he should have started with the players that won the league last season.

"If he had done that, maybe we wouldn't have been in the position we are in right now.

"I wasn't there before but since I came on board, I've been able to identify some of the problems and I'm tackling them."

Ezenwa : Younger Keepers ’ Future Won ’ t Be Threatened By Enyeama ’ s Nigeria Return
By Izuchukwu Okosi

Super Eagles home-based goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has shrugged off the fears that the return to national team duties by Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama will hamper the progress of younger goalkeepers hoping to blossom in the Eagles,
Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

There has been debate raging on whether the experienced custodian should stage a return, with Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr reportedly keen to work with the 2013 African Cup of Nations winner.

Ezenwa, the FC Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper who is the captain of the Super Eagles Team B comprising the home-based players spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com on the issue.

"Firstly, Vincent is a very experienced player who has been in this team (Super Eagles), won things while representing Nigeria," the former U-23 star stated.

"Of course, those of us other keepers all want to get a piece of the cake, and have our chances to be as successful as he was in the national team, but if the coaches feel he still has a place in the team, then it's not bad, you know perhaps he will be around for just a year or two more years.

"Personally, I have picked some tips by watching him and listening to talk him. I am younger and still have the time to prove myself worthy of being the first choice, and I know some other guys feel the same way.

"We are one big family, it's not about who plays or not. It doesn't matter who is in goal at a particular time, it could be Carl Ikeme, Daniel Akpeyi or myself," Ezenwa concluded.

The Eagles will regroup in the last week of May for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in June.

If you're a striker no matter how many chances and assist you have to your name, as long as there are no goals, you are always in trouble.. i hope our upcoming eagles take this into consideration. ....

sir Icon4s lmc revealed that Abs being the winners of the u15 tourney will have their team on a tour of Spain very soon courtesy of la liga.

and please Rangers have announced that they signed Chidera Eze into their team for the second stanza. please I don't seem to recall him too well please kindly remind me of who he is. cc thesupernerd

lastly former npfl top scorer jude aneke now has 6 goals in 8 nnl games for Ikorodu utd, guy x having a resurrection he might move back into the NPFL, Ikorodu is bottom of the southern conference they may find themselves in the NLO 1 next season if that happens nd he keeps scoring he may sign for a newly promoted team into the npfl especially teams like go round, gateway utd etc, if they should qualify.

Wawu, should I call it low self esteem or the African mentality that any white man is always better than a black man??

See everyone has his or her own sentiments and bias and this does not exclude Rhor, we know his bias towards Germany and Holland in securing talents for Nigeria, so it's not exclusively limited to our indigenous coaches, he is also being sentimental about our local talents, he doesn't believe the ones we have cannot compete with the ones abroad forgetting that the ones abroad once played in Nigeria before moving out.

if the late Keshi was in charge and he had those three I bet he would v done great things with the SE this man won the AfCon with relatively unknown players , the same with Amodu, always qualifying the SE for AfCon n world cup from poor positions.

The only thing that hampered these great coaches was the interference of from the former NFF board who were also not looking at foreign born players, I won't make a case for Siasia and Oliseh sha

thanks I like your points.....
but you fail to include how our trials with indigenous coaches cost us two afcon tournament... same keshi that won for Afcon for us could not qualify us for next afcon...he began to experiment with different rockies...in one occasion...a non league player was spotted wearing the prestigious no 10 jersey in one of super eagles match....
his team selection for the 2014 world cup... was filled with fraud...
no one can explain how uchebo who had 5 goals for club d brugge made the team in place of IMO Ezekiel... of standard ligue with 12 goals abit his team winning the Belgian Jupiter league...
if not for the public outcry the likes of osaze would not have made the list...
the inclusion of Gabriel rubben...a player who has only 290 minutes of action all through a session still remain something that needs to be explained

or should we go into... Sunday oliseh...team selection and managerial attributes?
that's a topic for another day.

when you talk of amodu always qualifying us for the world cup...with the calibre and large number of players has Nigeria... qualifying for the world cup or nations cup shouldn't be a problem...

even at that qualification has always entails us engaging in permutations, mathematical calculations etc...in one of those outings was our 2010 world cup against Kenya...in Nairobi where martins net the winner...I think
this should be the first time in a while...where we likely qualify for the world cup with no stress or fear...as such involving us using our calculators

though...I am not writing off our local coaches...I think they have a lot to learn as regard being a football manager..

That is great exposure for the ABS lads.

Chidera Ezeh of the former u17 squad is not moving to Rangers anytime soon. The Chidera Ezeh, they announced played against Wikki on the 26th. While the former under 17 player was scoring goals in Portugal.

good to see Jude Aneke back.

The question have always been why do academies seem to export players abroad than the NPFL. You obviously came in the middle of this and didn't follow up on previous discussions.

Bro...one of the things we have fail to understand..
is that Europeans work base on past precedents...
I tell you for sure...Gent and other Belgian clubs will not stop coming for talents in Nigeria academics as it is now..reason because of the past success wit players like ndidi and lots more...
I remember one of spurs scout coming to Nigeria... and he asked a Nigeria agent...if he can get him more of nachos..sorry if I didn't paraphrased it well..
this I believe he asked...because of the current city's success with nacho...it was a gamble that turned out successful...

should odey move to Celtic...goes successful and he end up lighting up the Scottish league...I tell you that will be the beginning of a fresh romance of npfl players and Scottish clubs...

so I tell you...the past success of European clubs with players from Nigeria academics still keep this relationship afloat..
some of these academics have built good reputations with this club over time

I v told u I can't make a case for the siasia and oliseh, I think with all respect to Keshi he let the Afcon get into his head, n also let's not forget how unsupportive the NFF was to him after the Afcon. we shouldn't forget his input to the performances of the SE at the world cup and at the confed cup. the se really held the own agains strong opponents like Spain, Uruguay and Argentina, we only lacked good goalscoring strikers. remember how ideye couldn't score thaiti (hey who recalls the guy who scored the hattrick where is he now).
what we really lacked was strikers that could score both at the confed cup and world cup, we n Uruguay knew whoever scored most against thaiti would come second behind Spain if we had drew Uruguay in that game. in fact I believe we could v beat Uruguay that day they were very beatable but who scored ? Mikel, our unexpected goalscorer. in the world cup against Iran we scored thru emenike but was called offside, apart that Iran were frustrating, Argentina were way poorer than we were against Iran the difference was Messi, when we played them no the difference was Messi. so keshi did wonderfully well under unpleasant situations so u can't compare his case to sia and oliseh

The greedy agent that made this guy loose that Juventus deal, may God forgive him.

At a point Theophilus Solomon was ahead of Isaac Success and Kelechi Iheanacho or Muazam in Eaglets training.

I would rather he goes to Belgium instead of Denmark.

The Belgian League has proven over and over to be a fertile ground for grooming top Nigeria talents.
