For #15K, I need someone to mathematically find x if

0 ÷ 0 = x

Using mathematical methods pls.
let me give a little proof....
now..0/0=[100-100]÷[20(10-10)]=(10^2-10^2)/[20(10-10)]=[(10+10)(10-10)]÷[20(10-10)]=(10+10)/20=20/20=1

The head seen are those of the 28 chicken ( having 56 legs) 80-56 is 24. Hence to get the total number of rat divide 24 by 4 legs of rats to get 6. Therefore there are 28 birds and 6 rat or rabbits. Tenk

Finishing Schools…Finishing School- WAVE Academies

As I sat in front of my prospective employer, my mind wandered. I took a long walk back in time, way back to the gruesome 400L course; Extentialism. Dr. Folorunsho shouted on how the course would benefit us on our jobs when we eventually graduated. In that cramped cell of a classroom, we wrote everything he said like our lives depended on it. Our lives did depend on it back then.

My potential employer cleared his throat and transported me back to earth. I stared at him while he in turn stared at my CV. My CV had all these glorious experiences and recommendations which I didn’t reflect. He asked me simple questions any graduate should be able to answer and I was lost…as lost as I was in existentialism class. Needless to say, I didn’t get the job.

This happened some five years ago, way back when I was still young and naïve, when I thought my certificate could suffice for experience and would fetch me gold. My story took a turn for the better when I swapped finishing school for finishing schools.

Finishing school is a huge accomplishment for Nigerian youth. Having any school accept you into their programme meant that for the next four or five years, your life had been mapped out i.e Gain admission-Study hard-Pass my exams-Graduate-Serve-Job hunt. This just seems like the grand order of life. “Finishing school will make me more eligible for the workplace”; this thought is what drives youths to finish school. Sadly, as I realized, after a year or two, this was not entirely true.

After a series of failed interviews, I swallowed my pride as one who had finished school and went to a finishing school. I kept wondering what these schools could teach me after four years in the university. FOUR years! What could they possibly teach me?! As baked as I thought I was, I realized I had a long way to go. I had to unlearn, relearn and learn some more. More striking was the fact that I wasn’t better because I had a degree but because I knew and did what needed to be known and done.

Finishing schools, as the name connotes, are schools that are supposed to refine an individual; make such an individual better suited for the world of work. However, in this part of the world; the reverse is the case.!!! Because finishing school is of little or no value, finishing schools redefine rather than refine.

As I pen down my story, I can’t help but imagine how my life would have played out if I had enrolled for a finishing school immediately I finished school. Not to undermine finishing school; it has its own merits(such as demonstrating that an individual can be focused on a goal for four years) which sadly is negligible when compared to finishing schools.

Finishing school will always be a major accomplishment for the average youth, but will be irrelevant in the long run if they do not develop competencies required to succeed in the world of work which ultimately make finishing schools a must-consider.

WAVE is a finishing school that trains unemployed youth and connects them to job interviews. Kelvin is a member of the WAVE team. He has a passion for broadcasting and the use of social media. He coordinates activities across all social media platforms at WAVE Academies. www.waveacademies.org

AkinPhysicist:
cool

Solution
Using simple logic: Imagine the animals all raise one leg. When this is done, there will be a total of 80 – 28 = 52 legs visible. Then imagine each of the animals raising a second leg, then there will be 52 – 28 = 24 legs left. Since the chickens have only two legs, all the 24 legs must belong to the rabbits. Now since the rabbits have already raised two legs, then each of the rabbits must be contributing 2 legs to the 24. Therefore there are 24 divided 2 = 12 rabbits. Therefore, since there are 28 animals in total, then there are 28 – 12 = 16 chickens.

Format mathematics method:
Let X be the number of Chickens and Y be the number of Rabbits. Here is the formal mathematical approach.
X + Y = 28 (1)
2X + 4Y = 80 (2)

Multiply eq.1 by 4:
4X + 4Y = 112 (3)
Subtract eq.2 from eq. 3:
2X = 112 – 80 => 2X = 32 => X = 16 therefore Y = 28 – 16 = 12.
if u were my maths teacher back in secondary school maybe I wouldn't have been a sociologist I swear down. would be going for my dream course in engineering

People should realise that a lot of things happen in here and people learn. We have secondary school students and university students that can learn as well. Everyone know that the solution to that question you posted can be done by mere looking but a good solution is required. The moment I saw his explained solution, I was so disappointed.

Ahhhh you would have got my #15k, but you won't.

What you did is absolutely correct, but for mathematical expediency, you need to have use a letter say, "Let Y be any number such that Y€R

So if you had used y Instead of 10, you would still have got that proff correct, but it will be a valid proof, not just for "10" but for all real numbers y. Now, you made that clear in your last sentence, but in maths, it has to be part of the proof.

You are good bro.

I was going to use the method of Limits

Okay. CACAWA before I go let me educate you. This is how you solve that problem without taking SQUARES:

You count.

Reduce the problem to a + b = 15. Then count.

1 + 14 is disqualified do you know why?
2 +13 also disqualified do you know why?
3 + 12 also disqualified do you know why?
4 + 11 also disqualified do you know why?
5 + 10 also disqualified do you know why?
go down the list and you will see only 8 and 7 qualifies therefore x = a^2 = 7^2 = 49 OR use b to get the same result.

Cacawa you are a formally trained mathematician but you are not creative. Find out why this method works and get back at me later. I have things to do. BY THE WAY IT TOOK ME LESS THAN A MINUTE USING THE COUNTING METHOD. TRY IT.

kelvinreality:

Please why do other figures disqualified and only 8 and 7 was accepted?

Kelvinreality - after giving Cacawe all night to answer the question above, I have concluded he is incapable of basic logic. Here is the explanation:

x^1/2 + (x+15)^1/2 = 15. If an integer solution exist, then you can obtain it by counting. Here is how it works.

Let a = x^1/2 and b= (x+15)^1/2 so the eq. becomes a + b =15. So choose a pair of integer a and b whose sum gives you 15. However, NOT all pairs qualify because a^2 has to be equal to b^2 - 15 (since both have to be equal to x). So all you have to do is count from 0 to 15 to see which pair qualifies. Clearly any pair with a from 0 to 5 fails because in this case a^2 is clearly less than b^2 -15. You don't even need to do any calculation - all you need to know is if b^2 -15 is greater (or smaller) than or equal to a^2. If its equal then you have your solution. No calculator required. Nothing. Just basic logic of counting.

if the answer was meant to be a decimal, the counting method would fail.

That is exactly why the ITERATION method was introduced as. Avalid mathematical method for "Counting". The only difference is that it counts by itself until it gets to the actual answer and it stops.

The iteration method is not just any "creative" solution either, it was developed using the Fibonacci sequence.

Now, here is what would work ;
Go on your calculator and type :
0+1=
Ans

Now, type :

(15*Ans) - √(Ans(Ans+15)) =

Now keep pressing the "=" key until the answer stops changing.

It will stay as 49.

That is iteration. Again that doesn't tell you if there are other solutions.

So to find all other solutions, you need to find out the first derivative, equate to zero, fond its roots, and the iteration process in another direction Way from the first.

So Cacewa - the emboldened is a calculator approach of what Akin did. The difference is you had to use a calculator be he didn't. He found a solution within a minute. This is what I have been trying to convey to you, you take a formal approach to math, Akin is just naturally intelligent.

I feel ya. Its unfortunate that math education (especially primary and secondary level) is nothing but rigid rote learning and memorization; camming formulas and punching numbers into calculators. This is why some many students run away from math. However, its never to late to pursue you dreams. Just one life to live.

So? If it fails then you employ another method. Ki ni big deal?

CACAWA:

That is exactly why the ITERATION method was introduced as. Avalid mathematical method for "Counting". The only difference is that it counts by itself until it gets to the actual answer and it stops.
Then use iteration if basic/logical counting fails. Again ki ni big deal?

CACAWA:

The iteration method is not just any "creative" solution either, it was developed using the Fibonacci sequence.
Keep your 'lecture' to yourself, I am fully aware of the connection between iteration and Fibonacci

CACAWA:

Go on your calculator and type :
Using a calculator to solve this particular problem is like using a machete(cutlass) to kill a housefly. Its shows rigidity. A lack of clear thought.

CACAWA:

0+1=
Ans

Now, type :

(15*Ans) - √(Ans(Ans+15)) =

Now keep pressing the "=" key until the answer stops changing.

It will stay as 49.

Once again iteration is an overkill for this problem. You needed a calculator - I didn't grin

CACAWA:

That is iteration. Again that doesn't tell you if there are other solutions.
Tell me something I don't know.

CACAWA:

So to find all other solutions, you need to find out the first derivative, equate to zero, fond its roots, and the iteration process in another direction Way from the first.

You can't do basic/logical counting and you think you can give me homework...I laugh in Chinese grin

This is the link to the solution already solved in 2001.

Same puzzle, different variables. Notice the winner of this puzzle used exactly the same steps.

You are being unnecessarily childish and sentimental on this thread. The Akin guy should have known that such solving methods is archaic and unacceptable in maths. How can he use trial and error method to solve that question? What if the solution is something like 120 or more? Will he keep on counting till he gets there? He knows exactly what CACAWA wants but decides to be clever by half and you are just buttlicking him and trolling cacawa unnecessarily.

Archaic and unacceptable? This is not a thread about mathematical etiquette. The OP wanted creative/original solution to a problem. And I supplied it. What Okocha did to Khan (the German goalkeeper) was considered disrespectful but football like math does not give a damn who feels disrespected. The question you should ask yourself is simple:- did I provide a solution for the problem? If then answers is yes, then don't waste your time pontificating.
