If i didn't know you were Igbo, i would have assumed you were one Yoruba girl that i met in Gwagwalada some years back. That girl knows football like crazy. that 2005 WYC tournament is still the best tournament I enjoyed a lot, not only the on field action that thrilled me but also the Graphics like score board, the official logo of the tournament (that orange lion roaring out when a replay is to be shown) and jerseys. yes all those things mesmerised me, my favourite player then was Taiye Taiwo due to his long range shots, along the line I fell sick during the tourney and whenever I sit to watch the TV it would seem as if the TV would fall off from where it was placed. lol even sleeping on bed I would feel like the bed was turning upside down, anyway I recovered in time for the final and I remember my dad always saying Africans are always cheated in one way or the other at FIFA tournaments.

long story short I watched the 2002 WC all Nigeria matches and some other ones like the final where Ronaldo scored two early goals for Brazil to win 2-0 I remember Oliver khan disappointed den vividly.

in 2003 I watched my first female WC where Nigeria lost to Brazil in the knockout stages a 3-2 loss or was it 4-3 where our goalkeeper fumbled a free kick into her net in the extra time

I watched that match that saw Mac Vivian foe slump n die on the field against Colombia in France 2005 confederations cup I didn't know he had died instantly on the pitch.

2004 I watched the Afcon in Tunis where there was this white man in our supporters club always playing a small guitar Jay Jay okocha scored a brilliant free kick in that tournament, I recall we beat Cameroon 2-1 I usually fear Cameroon because of their Scarred jersey which had 3 lion's scars on each side of the ribs I feared etoo too I never tot we would beat them.

2006 we didn't qualify so I didn't really follow any tourney in between all those I watched commonwealth games and Olympics in 2004, 2008
all the fifa tournaments hosted by Africa in 2009 and 2010 from our u17 to Egypt u20 and SA WC.
I watched Desire oparanozie and francesca bust unto the u20 women WC scene in Germany 2010, 2011 we failed to qualify for u17 and from then up till now I still follow Nigerian football at all levels and all stages

My favorite moments of Rashidi Yekini:

1. Of course Nigeria's first goal at any World Cup (USA '94).The grabbing of that net and chanting what no one has still been able to interpret till date.

others: Maroc '88: Nigeria Vs Kenya. Yekini scored a brace to give Nigeria a brilliant commencement to the tourney.

Tunisia '94: Nigeria Vs Egypt. Egyptian keeper boasted Yekini cannot beat him. It was a tight game. Yekini almost scored a cracker when he took a thunderous shot that hit the upright of the Egytians' net. I will not also forget the brilliant goal he scored against Zaire.

1994 WC qualifiers: Ngr Vs CIV. Yekini scored a brace in Lagos to help Ngr Beat CIV 4-1.

Sir, I was chatting with my dad this morning about the exploit of yekini.My father actually said he read an interview where it was stated that the chant he made after grabbing the net when he scored against Bulgaria was this 'YEKINI! YEKINI! YEKINI!. After that the front
line never fed him with ball again. That was the last goal he ever scored for the SE. Don't forget, it was only Uche Ukechukwu that celebrated with him pointing to the fact that there was a gang up against him in camp. It was said that he was very introverted but some players saw it as pride. There was a promise made to the players that whoever scored the first goal in the world Cup will be paid a certain amount of money. So when he was screaming out his name, the other players felt insulted so they avoided him. The goal would have not been possible without the help of the other players.

The thunderbolt against the Egyptians was a cracker, it was said, it made a dent on the goal post. Lol... Naso we hear the story ooo

Do you recall the penalty he took against CIV in the semi finals?. It sent us to the finals. At that time it was adjured that the CIV gk was the best in the world so YEKINI had to prove a point. Taking 3 steps backwards, he sent a ferocious shot and the CIV goalkeeper stood no chance against it.

The free kick against Gabon was a blinder.

I can't forget the scissors kick against Spain in 98 that went over the bar.

YEKINI has raised a bar that so many strikers in the SE has fallen short of. Comparing them to YEKINI, they are pseudo strikers (false 9).I mean no disrespect to Martins, Aghahowa, Aiyegbeni etc.

Amedi Pele after Tunisia 94 confessed that there was only one striker in Africa and it was YEKINI.

Highest goal scorer in Senegal 92 and Tunis 94..

That Okiki Afolabi's story is one of so many. Uncountable in fact. Many of these NPFL players will have one good season, some half of a season, and they are off. Majority of them you'll never get to hear their names again.

What about David Tyavkase or was it Anjembe? he was so pronounced at Lobi Stars FC and Enyimba FC.

Don't mind them. Let Pep continue to keep proven talents like John Stones, Kelechi, and Nolito on the bench while always playing headless chickens like Raheem Sterling....let's see how he'll win.

To me, what makes a great coach is how he makes his players better. To better understand where I am coming from, just look at what coaches Mauricio Pochettino has done at Spurs, Ronald Koeman did at Everton, and even what the big Sam is doing with Crystal Palace.

Hence, in my opinion, the blossom of players like: Victor Moses, Kevin De Bryune, Romelu Lukaku, Arjen Robben (just to mention a few) after Jose Mourinho is a clear indication that Jose is a piss poor coach; who can only win by gathering the best group of players on the planet. And you can say the same thing about Pep when you think about the likes of Yaya Toure (at Barca), and John Stones, Kelechi, Nolito, etc. at ManCity.

Bottom line, most of these so called great coaches are grossly overrated.

Exclusive: Five Defenders, Including Two Uncapped Players, In Line To Train With Super Eagles In Paris



Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that five defenders have been named in the Nigeria squad for the upcoming friendly against Corsica in France on May 26.

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has officially informed Chidozie Awaziem, Leon Balogun, Troost Ekong, Tyronne Ebuehi and Elderson Echiejile that they must arrive in Paris latest 1200 hours on May 23.

Uncapped duo Awaziem and Ebuehi will be hoping to make their unofficial debut for the three-time African champions after missing out two months ago in London due to the cancellation of a friendly with Burkina Faso.


Abdullahi Shehu (Anorthosis Famagusta), Uche Agbo (Granada) and Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City) were earlier classified as midfielders by this website, but the trio are equally comfortable playing defense. They will train with the squad in Paris.

Gent Manager Tells West Brom & Monaco – Moses Simon Is Worth €20m




Super Eagles forward Moses Simon won’t be leaving Gent for anything less than €20m according to the technical director of the team Michel Louwagie.

Simon has been heavily linked with a move away from the Belgian side with West Brom and Monaco particularly interested in the former As Trencin man.

However as reported by this portal French side Monaco opened discussions with Gent over his possible transfer in the summer, but the demands of the Belgian side differs from what they are offering.

Louwagie while responding to rumours about Simon confirmed they have received offers for the forward but none has met the club valuation of their prized asset.

He insist that the forward will be sold for nothing less than 20 million euros. He cited the transfer of Simon’s international teammate and close friend Wilfred Ndidi to Leicester City from Genk for £16m as a sign of how wise Belgium clubs have become in transfer dealings.

Another Loan Move On The Cards For Nigerian Defender Next Season




Another loan move is on the cards for England U20 international Fikayo Tomori next season, according to reports.

Goal.com has speculated that the teenage loanees expected to spend another season away include the likes of Kasey Palmer, Fikayo Tomori and Jay Dasilva.


The 19-year-old Tomori was farmed out on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion for the remainder of the season in the January transfer window and has nine appearances for the Championship club in all competitions.


He made his first-team debut for the Blues against Leicester City on the final day of the 2015-16 campaign.

The defender, who is expected to represent England at the Fifa U20s this month, can also turn out for the senior teams of Canada and Nigeria.

But this is ridiculous. Xavi was an average player before Pep came to Barca, now without him Barca can't seem to get a grip of the ball. I think his claim is slightly genuine albeit misplaced IMO. Before that game Nacho was not regarded as an Amf, and to be honest, in that game he played more as a SS not an AMF, Mikel did most of the Amf/cmf work. Although Nacho scored I guess his point was that he would have played the Amf position better than Nacho did and I agree.

Come to think of it, you are a natural AMF in camp and the coach decides to play a striker in the AMF position ahead of you, that's not so cool
