Ahmed Musa is the second most expensive player in Leicester City’s history. He has played professional football in four different countries, in climactic extremes spanning sub-Saharan African and Arctic Russia. He has earned over half a century of international caps for Nigeria, played and scored at the World Cup, and has captained the Super Eagles.


He is well off, very much so especially by the standard of a country in which, by UN estimates, more than half of the citizenry lives below the poverty line.


Mansa Musa he is not, but through that prism, he is wealthy, affluent even. The notion that he can have problems is hard to comprehend for most.


And yet, Ahmed Musa is 24 years old. He has played roughly 22 hours of football since moving to the East Midlands on July 8 2016, has seen the manager who signed off on his acquisition sacked, and is in bad odour with the present boss. He has been questioned by police pertaining to possible domestic violence, been exonerated, is in the middle of divorce proceedings, and is in the process of taking on a new spouse.


He has been passed over as captain of the national team, in spite of being vice-captain, in the absence of Mikel John Obi.


Simply put, Musa is going through the toughest phase of his career.

He is not exempt from responsibility, of course. No attempt should be made to view this as some great persecution, even though the latter situation with the captaincy is akin to the temptation of a weary Christ in the wilderness. He may be young, but he is no infant.


While he is not responsible for Leicester City’s decision to sign a player who so obviously was a troublesome tactical fit, he is culpable for a lack of endeavour, and a pace of learning that has reportedly left the staff at the King Power Stadium frustrated.

It has been established that he did not in any way physically abuse his wife, and his Islamic faith allows him to marry more than one wife, and yet a source familiar with Musa reveals that the player has lost a bit of focus and discipline since his move to England.

It is nothing unusual for a player of that age. For all his experience, it is easy to forget this is a player yet to even enter his prime. Now he stands at a crucial juncture in his career. Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare has insisted Musa remains in his plans, but barring a huge miracle, it is hard to see how the Foxes don’t cut their losses and try to move the former Kano Pillars prodigy on in the summer.


It would represent the first real downward trend of his career, the first time he will have been turned away for not fitting the bill.


This is why it is imperative that the national team step up and build a support structure around him. Now more than ever there must be a conscious effort by Gernot Rohr and his crew to put an arm around him and make him feel a part of the group.

It is troubling then the lack of sensitivity displayed in the recent friendly against Senegal.


Rohr had wisely, up until that point, steered clear of the politics within the squad, focusing on the footballing aspect and trusting captain Mikel to keep everyone singing from the same page. Yet, by pointedly shunning Musa, dismissively stating a preference for a captain playing regularly, he has played a very poor hand indeed.


As is, the double dose of rejection from both club and country may do some damage to Musa’s career, from which he might be unable to recover.


Without a doubt, it would be nigh on impossible for Musa to land on his feet if he is ostracized from the national team. There may be no consensus as to how his time with the Super Eagles ought to be viewed – there have been highs and lows – but there is no question regarding his commitment at all times.


Perhaps it is time to pay him back. Much as loyalty is demanded, it is only fair that it be given as well.


The national team is brimming with young attacking talent now, but it was not always so.


There was someone who was a shining light in leaner times.
His name is Ahmed Musa, and he needs our help.

There was this match we played during the qualifiers or the Nation's cup in 1994. Yekini lubed the ball over the head of the keeper and nodded the ball into the post. It was a very important match. I remembered when it was replayed people demonstrated by moving their heads the same way he did it and exclamated eeehhhh!

I loved that goal.

That was Nigeria Vs Zaire, Quarter final of 1994 AFCON.

I remember Efan Ekoku missed from a very close range in that game and that was the end of his national team ambition as he was brought into the team as a competition for Yekini.

Anichebe To Be Retained As Sunderland Plan Massive Squad Overhaul



Nigeria forward, Victor Anichebe, is expected to be retained by Sunderland when his short term deal expires in the summer.

Osimhen Set For Wolsfburg Bundesliga Debut Vs Frankfurt

Former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is poised to make his Bundesliga debut for Wolfsburg in Saturday’s clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.


Osimhen who returned to full training a fortnight ago has been listed in Wolfsburg’s matchday squad for the encounter at the Commerzbank-Arena.


His representative, Ariyo Igbayiola, told Comple tesportsnigeria.com that the former 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer is excited at the prospect of being listed for the encounter for the first time this season.


“Osimhem will make is debut on Saturday against Eintracht Frankfurt and his coach (Andries Jonker) is pleased to have him fit for the clash,” Igbayiola said.


“He is excited once again to be training with the first team squad and the fact that he is fit to play for club and country.”


Osumhen joined Wolfsburg fully in January, days after he turned 18, on a three-year contract.

Boreham Wood’s Femi Ilesanmi now set to soar with the Super Eagles

BOREHAM WOOD defender Femi Ilesanmi won’t rest until he is walking out in a Nigeria shirt at next summer’s World Cup.


The 26-year-old was called up by his national side recently and took part in an in-house friendly match last month in London.


The Super Eagles were impressed by what they saw from the Wood full-back at Barnet’s Hive Stadium and with games coming up next month, Ilesanmi will be patiently waiting by his phone.


The former Dagenham defender’s parents are from Nigeria and the Southwark-born star is determined to complete his childhood dream.


He toldThe NLP: “I was shocked to be invited along last month. It took me by surprise to be honest but what an honour for me. I have always wanted to pull on a Nigeria shirt, but to work closely with such a talented group of players is what dreams are made of in a lot of ways.


“Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi and Manchester City’s Kelechi Ihenacho were involved, and Jon Obi Mikel. It was an incredible experience to play and train with some of my heroes. But the experience has left me wanting even more.”


From Boreham Wood to the World Cup may seem a tall order, but stranger things have happened and the club’s Player of the Year is already attracting interest from Football League clubs.


“That would be the ultimate for me to be a part of that squad if we made it to Russia,” he adds.


“That’s a life ambition for every player, but it’s one step at a time.


The next stage is to end the season well and to try and force my way into the next squad. There are games coming up at the end of May and I would love to be involved.


“Hopefully I did enough and showed I’m not out of place playing with those great players.”
Out of contract in the summer, Ilesanmi doesn’t know for sure what’s happening next season as Luke Garrard looks to rebuild over the summer.


“On a personal level I’ve enjoyed the season,” said the defender. “I want to play at the highest level possible. I am very ambitious and know next season is an important one for me. It’s a big period in my career.”

China: Martins On Target In Shanghai Shenhua Defeat

Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins was on target for 10-man Shanghai Shenhua but it was not enough as they lost 3-2 away to Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League on Friday.


The goal was Martins’ second in three league appearances for Shanghai Shenhua this season.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho gave Guangzhou Evergrande the lead in the 24th minute.


Fredy Guarin drew Shanghai Shenhua level on 29 minutes before Martins made it 2-1 for Shanghai on the stroke of half time.


In the 71st minute an own goal from Shanghai’s Jianbin Li brought the score to 2-2.


Hanchao Yu scored what proved to be the winner in the 8rth minute to give Guangzhou the victory.


In the 90th minute Shanghai’s Giovanni Andres Moreno was sent off for his second yellow card.


The loss means Shanghai are now seventh in the league table on 10 points, while Guangzhou top with 19 points.

Legendary Nigeria forward Nwankwo Kanu has backed his countryman Victor Moses to win this year's CAF Player of the Year accolade.


The 26-year-old Moses has enjoyed his best season with Chelsea, who are the favourites to win this season's English Premier League (EPL) title.


However, former Arsenal star Kanu feels that the defender-cum-midfielder faces stiff competition from Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Senegalese Sadio Mane.


“Moses has proved critics wrong. It is now left for CAF to do their rating," Kanu told Sports Village Square.


"As for me, he deserves the 2017 CAF award. Although the season is still on and no one can tell what future will be.


“The likes of Aubameyang and Sadio Mane are dangerous to compete with but I still have a strong belief in the Nigeria forward.


“Despite playing out of position at Chelsea, he finds it easy to break opponents’ defence with ease.


"And if he keeps this fitness alive I see him becoming the next African footballer of the year."

The recently concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) U-15 Promises Tournament has been described as the beginning of the process for a sustainable youth football culture in the Nigeria elite football league.


Speaking after the closing ceremony for the tournament won by Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC, Harry Iwuala, Head of Special Project at the League Management Company (LMC enjoined participating clubs not to see the tournament as a competition but an activity to implement some of the lessons learnt during the tour of Spain at the instance of LaLiga last year.


"First, it was a platform to expose the young players but most importantly, it was an activity to get the NPFL Clubs to set up youth teams as opposed to their practice of what they call Feeder teams made up of largely players who didn't fit into their main squad but not necessarily young players," said Iwuala who represented the LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko at the finals.


The LMC said part of the objective of creating youth teams in NPFL Clubs is to grow a club philosophy and raise a pull of young players that will continually replace the older ones.


"What we have done over the last one month is not basically to see which club is the best, we never set out to make them competitive because that will defeat the essence of having a stream of young players who will transit to the main squad. This was simply a beginning of a sustainable platform to identify local talents, harness them and offer them a career, he added.


He admitted that the implementation hasn't hit the perfect mark but that a lot has been learnt from this pilot scheme.

Arsenal Boy Wonder Nwakali Overcomes Fatigue To Help MVV Qualify For Playoffs




Nigeria U20 skipper Kelechi Nwakali passed a late fitness test ahead of MVV Maastricht's league match with RKC Waalwijk on Friday, May 5.

The Arsenal loanee missed last week's trip to Volendam after complaining of fatigue, but it later emerged that he was rested because of the synthetic pitch at the Kras Stadium.

Against RKC Waalwijk, the number ten was introduced in the 68th minute, and had a lot of work to do, with teammate Kuipers sent off just before the end of the first half.

I remember his impact against Algeria and Zambia... it was his impact that got us the 3rd goal against the Algerians he even made a good assist to nacho in same match...though the lad missed no thanks to Algerian defense..

This might seem like a great idea but i am all against it. The clubs are ran by states mostly and it would be better for each state to have school football. It is not about football but making sure our boys and girls are in school and doing the right things. The law should be if u don't pass u can't play. We should be tired of sending dullards to Europe, if a player cannot make real world decisions by the time they get to Europe then we can't say we have done our job, any joe smo can kick a ball but we need to build future leaders.

u see the reason why many European clubs don't like signing Nigeria players...(the issue of 3rd party ownership) it gives peace more when they go for academy lads..because there is more fairness

I already said Odey and his agent were wrong but rules are rules. If the said player does infact belong to MFM then this becomes another issue. This is like knowing a car is stolen and still trying to purchase it. Are u telling me that they didn't know he was a player of MFM FC? Why didn't they contact MFM and find out? TBH i could give a hoot what they have done for Nigerian players, i would even tell them where to stick that right about now. They tried to steal a player, they had no right to do what they did. This happened right before he had a match, do they think we are freakin monkeys kickin rocks over here? This is a full league and when we start letting rubbish like this happen then what else? I remember his impact against Algeria and Zambia... it was his impact that got us the 3rd goal against the Algerians he even made a good assist to nacho in same match...though the lad missed no thanks to Algerian defense..

West Brom Target Moses Simon Reacts To €20m Price Tag Placed On Him By Gent



Gent forward Moses Simon who is reportedly a target for English Premier League side West Brom and French side Monaco has reacted to the €20m price tag slammed on him by his team.

Simon who has been at the club for three seasons is keen on a move away this summer, and while Gent admit he could be on the move, technical director Michael Louwagie pegged his price tag at €20m.


“I still think so (that Simon is worth €20 million),” Louwagie told Voetbalmagazine.

“Why are they able to sell in the Netherlands for amounts more than €30 million? Where is Memphis Depay now who PSV sold to Manchester United? Vincent Janssen, AZ’s top scorer, went to Tottenham and hasn’t played much. Simon is better. The trend is reversed: Wilfred Ndidi (joined Leicester City) in December, a few Anderlecht boys too”.

Reacting the soft spoken Simon, who has five goals to his name this season said issues regarding his transfer is usually handled by his intermediary and club.


” €20m, am I that expensive? , we’ll find out in the coming days either from my club or agent. My job is to play football, there are people who handle that aspect of my career”, Simon told Owngoalnigeria.com.

And Dortmund takes on Hoffenheim today in the battle for who finishes third in the bundesliga... both are UCL bound but the fourth place finishers will go thru the playoffs first... These two teams are among Nacho's likely destinations in the summer... interesting how this pans out....

Iheanacho To Hoffenheim Gathers Pace, Adviser Fails To Deny Interest From Germany



Manchester City Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho will leave the club at the end of the season according to his adviser Olumide Oluwo.

Despite his near perfect goal scoring record, Iheanacho has failed to convince manager Pep Guardiola , who took over from Manuel Pelligrini in the summer that he deserves a spot in the team.


Oluwo believes the coach didn’t give the forward enough opportunities to prove himself, as he preferred Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus since his signing in January.

When pressed over possible destinations of his client, who as exclusively reported by this portal has been granted permission to speak with German club Hoffeinheim, Oluwo confirmed there are clubs in Germany interested in Iheanacho.

Two teams in Germany Borrusia Dortmund and Hoffeinheim have been linked with the forward, but the interest from Dortmund has gone quiet with Hoffeinheim firmly in the driving seat to sign the Nigeria international.

This might seem like a great idea but i am all against it. The clubs are ran by states mostly and it would be better for each state to have school football. It is not about football but making sure our boys and girls are in school and doing the right things. The law should be if u don't pass u can't play.
