One thing I find silly is all these people who come to
insult people and their families simply because they
refuse to identify with their tribe.

If tomorrow I wake up and finally attach that Yoruba
name I have been wanting to add to my name and
perfect my Yoruba language skills and my understanding
of the culture and decide to do away with all that "Ada
Igbo" bragging, some people will come out to call me
efulefu and other funny things like that. Heck I even
know some people who will get mad and insult me if I
get married to someone who is not Igbo.
And truthfully, I no longer care.

Recently, someone told me how I wasn't really Igbo
because I was born and I grew up in Calabar. The
person said I would always be a Calabar girl despite my
name and the fact that I speak Igbo. And I was not
offended because these days I am gradually beginning
to care less.

I even see people calling others useless "mixed blood"
just because they grew up somewhere else or because
they have a parent who is not Igbo and I am like what is
doing you people?

I mean, nobody is dragging your Igboness with you. So
do not drag someone else's choice to stay above the
whole tribal stuff with the person. I understand the joy
that comes with having an identity and belonging to the
"us" team which is against the "them" team. However,
don't you think it is sheer stupidity to feel superior to
others and to bully others over a tribe you did not
choose on your own?

You can express your displeasure about how people are
no longer connecting with their roots but for the love of
whatever you hold dear, stop trying to bully people and
insult them.

I mean, express your displeasure on your wall. If the
person puts up a post about being detribalized or not
really being into the language and culture or not being
from the tribe at all(e.g when Urhobo, Ogoni, Ijaw,
Ikwere people say they are not Igbo), leave their posts
alone.

If you must comment, logically prove them wrong(which
will definitely be hard because actually the fact that
there are similar words for certain things in certain
languages doesn't mean that they are the same people.
For example, Arochukwu, Ohafia and Abiriba people of
Abia State have similarities with Efik people and
Ejagham people of Cross River State in certain words
and practices. Yet this does not mean that they are
from the same tribe. They might have similar origins
based on having traces to Ekoi/Bantu ancestry but this
does not make them all Igbo).

Do not go about insulting people for choosing not to
partake in all the tribal pride. It's indecent and just
crazy (and this is the despicable, nasty type of crazy)

The black man ignorance is very deep. It is part of human life to be sentimental. This is what make you human. Africans need to understand this.
