Saint Augustine of Hippo was a berber?

from wiki :

Augustine was born in the year 354 AD in the municipium of Thagaste (now Souk Ahras, Algeria ) in Roman Africa.[23][24] His mother, Monica or Monnica,[25] was a devout Christian; his father Patricius was a Pagan who converted to Christianity on his deathbed.[26] Scholars generally agree that Augustine and his family were Berbers , an ethnic group indigenous to North Africa ,[27][28][29][30] but that they were heavily Romanized, speaking only Latin at home as a matter of pride and dignity.[27] In his writings, Augustine leaves some information as to the consciousness of his African heritage . For example, he refers to Apuleius as "the most notorious of us Africans,"[31] to Ponticianus as "a country man of ours, insofar as being African,"[32] and to Faustus of Mileve as "an African Gentleman."[33]

Augustine's family name, Aurelius, suggests that his father's ancestors were freedmen of the gens Aurelia given full Roman citizenship by the Edict of Caracalla in 212. Augustine's family had been Roman, from a legal standpoint, for at least a century when he was born.[34] It is assumed that his mother, Monica, was of Berber origin, on the basis of her name,[35][36] but as his family were honestiores, an upper class of citizens known as honorable men, Augustine's first language is likely to have been Latin.

Pls guys, let's not make the thread a bitter one! Cos i can see us heading in that direction!
Let us learn from each other instead of unnecessary comparisons that will take us nowhere.

It wont go apeshit now. It started off on roucous note, the nature of the debate here goes as thu; the bitter discussion tones downs a bit (like now), tempers flair up again then things mellowe out again, then again.....

Soo, just enjoy this short moment of some semblance of a civilized discourse.

I am looking at the aerial shots of those towns right now.

Kano is a big city full of old buildings with rusty rooftops......

Which city in Kenya do you think is above average apart Nairobi and Mombasa, and are better than Calabar, Uyo, Enugu, Ibadan and Owerri? grin

Okie about the darkies..personally i feel like Nigerians has a problem with dark color grin grin grin. Ok Yorubas are dark (in kenya we have the Nilotes) ,igbos are light (in kenya most of the bantus are light ) an hausa/fulani look kinda somalis in a way( We got ours here)..we add the swahili who look like arabs .We also have Arabs whites indians among others...
My personal observation is that Nigeria does not have many visitors from other countries apart from Africa continent..so seen a white skin for most is a shock so the obsession with light skin...i might be wrong buuuut.. grin

Jay254 has posted acreages of photos here. Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret,Thika, Lamu, Kericho, Kisii, Naivasha, Kericho.....these are all Kenyan cities.

This is Eldoret, our fifth largest town in terms of population. Jay has posted the photos of Thika on this and ther previois page, which to me is more charming than Eldoret.

Ok, thanks.

I actually got these words from the church praises, so they are Amhara churches, but i guess they are protestants.

Do oromos use the same writing system with amharas?

The regional gov't of Oromo use the Latin alphabet. They see the Geez Fidel(alphabet) as there past oppressor(Abyssinia) writing system.

The Oromos say, they had been opposed particularly by the Amharas after Menelik expansion, but they had done the same or worse to the Amharas and others during their population movement from mid 16th century to early 19th century.
