The top Presidency source, privy
to the workings of the committee,
which concluded its assignment
last week, said Osinbajo, as the
Acting President, was likely to
implement the outcome of the report without waiting for
President Buhari’s return. The source also revealed that
Osinbajo was most likely to sign
the 2017 budget into law should
the document be passed by the
National Assembly any time
soon. The same goes for the swearing in of the two minister-
designates, who had been
screened and confirmed by the
Senate. The source said: “Look, the
President, before leaving, had
briefed Osinbajo. He had
empowered him to do certain
things on his behalf. Both had
some discussions on a wide range of issues. So, those things
may be part of what they
discussed. |

The Naira on Monday appreciated
against the dollar at the parallel
market, the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) reports. The Nigerian currency gained
three points to exchange at N388
to the dollar, stronger than N391 it
traded on Friday, while the pound
sterling and the Euro closed at
N495 and N425. At the Bureau De Change (BDC)
window, the Naira was sold at
N362 to the dollar, while the
pound sterling and the Euro
closed at N495 and N423. Trading at the interbank market
showed that the Naira closed at
N305.7, while the pound sterling
and the Euro closed at N453.18
and N386.28. Currency traders said the liquidity
boost at the FOREX market had
forced the naira to appreciate. |

ihedioramma: The Nigerian Naira on Monday depreciated against the US dollar on Investors and Exporters Foreign Exchange Window after the Central Bank of Nigeria introduced the platform two weeks ago. The Window designed to allow investors and exporters’ access forex at market-determined rates has shifted the power to investors as most off-shores investors are said to be demanding N400 a dollar exchange rate, while local buyers were quoting rates as low as N350 a dollar. Last week, traders held a conference call with market regulator FMDQ OTC Securities Exchange to discuss the wide range of quotes on the Naira for investors, although the meeting did not produce any resolutions. FMDQ provides daily opening and closing quotes on the Naira. However, traders are worried about illiquidity in the foreign exchange market despite making the exchange rate market-determined for investors. “We have done deals around N400/dollar levels,” one trader said, adding that, “Some of the off-shores investors are insisting on N400/dollar.” The CBN had in April said it would allow investors to trade the naira at market-determined rates, a move intended to improve the dollar supply and attract foreign investors who bolted from Nigeria at the start of the latest naira crisis. |

http://nairametrics.com/analysis-lafarge-africas-proposed-n140-billion-in-rights-issue/ The company says it wants to raise a whopping sum of N140 billion, which is currently about half its current shareholders funds. This means debt owed its parent company may be converted into equity. A $493 million loan from parent company Holcim was converted into quasi-equity in June 2016. The loan was then assigned to Caricement BV, a related company of Lafarge. The company placed the naira value of the loan at N139 billion in their 2016 FY annual report. Under the terms of agreement, both the loan and the annual interest of 6% are repayable at any time within the discretion of Lafarge Wapco Considering that this is expected to be a debt equity swap, Lafarge Holcim will not need to stump out that cash. Rather, N107 billion from their outstanding loan of N139 billion will simply be netted off. The balance N40 billion will be contributed by other shareholders who take up the rights and then passed on to Lafarge Holcim. For shareholders, whilst debt has effectively been repaid, a new more expensive capital in equity had been injected. Shareholders will have to deal with smaller earnings per share and lower return on equity as we do not envisage any immediate pass through to profits from this deal. Buy or sell There could be a push for a buy on the anticipation that significant shareholders may be willing to prop up its share price. Lafarge is currently trading at a price earnings ratio 0f about 9x. However, the long term outlook of the stock seems bleak as such any buy should be short term and flipped once target price is met. |
