President Buhari's letter to the Senate says Vice president Osinbajo will remain in acting capacity until his return

- The letter also says the president cannot determine the date of his return because only his doctors can clear him for return

- The trip, President Buhari says, is a follow-up to an earlier one made in January 2017

The Nigerian Senate has read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari on his travel to the United Kingdom for medical check-up.

The letter read was read by Senate president Bukola Saraki during plenary on Tuesday, May 9.

In the letter, the President said he had no definite date for his return as his doctors would be the ones to determine his return date.

President Buhari said his trip to the UK is for a medical follow-up to his initial treatments and tests from his earlier trip to London.

The letter said length of the President's stay in London will be determined only by his doctors.

Acting president Prof Yemi Osinbajo is expected to continue to coordinate the affairs of the country until President Buhari is allowed to return to Nigeria by his doctors.

There was however a moment of drama after the letter was read when a senator, Mao Ohabunwa faulted the position given to Osinbajo in the letter.

Ohabunwa raised a point of order noting that there is no provision in the Nigerian constitution for a coordinating vice president as stated in the President's letter.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported earlier that the Presidency has expressed disappointment in the submissions of the New York Times in its report on the latest medical trip of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United Kingdom.

Personal Assistant to President Buhari on new media Bashir Ahmad denied that there is a vacuum in the leadership of the country as indicated in the report.

According to him, the vice president Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is now the acting president because President Buhari properly handed over to his deputy.

So that your looting brothers and sisters can hold Osinbajo in the neck. No way, baba will not resign, he will stay back and provide the confidence that Osinbajo needs to rule. Nigeria needs strong men like Buhari.

1984 all over again.
Osibanjo playing the role of Tunde Idiagbon.
Monkey dey work,Baboon go dey take all the glory.tongue

He should honorably resign or the Senate should do the needful.

What's the difference between PMB and a ghost worker now?

I wish our President good health and speedy recovery but he should do the honorable thing!

The President should listen to his mind. His health is more important than clinging to power for sectional reason , to satisfy his appetite or selfishness ,hiding under one finger of patriotism.
I pray God grants him a quick recovery. No one can cheat nature. You need good health care which you fail to provide your pple here. That you are alive is a special grace.
You have a good Vp that can even surprise your expectations if and only if is given free hand to perform by you and the cabal who look as friends but they are your enemies.
The contents of your letter seem to make things difficult for him at the exploit of the cabals .What will be will be.

Let d countdown begin again... Dis ppl cannot cease to amaze us... Wen he embarked on d first trip we were told he'll only com back wen his doctors give him d all clear... Why den did he hurriedly com back even though he was clearly still ill? Wen he eventually got back and Nigerians asked for details or atleast briefing on his medical trip we were told such couldn't b disclosed, national security nonsense was given as an excuse... Now he's embarking on any one with the whole Chibok thing as d perfect PR stunt and distraction.. Since he's ill like is clear for all to see... Why won't he stay back and stay treated until he's certified fit to com back for once... Dis is becoming a national embarrassment. How long dey want to kip at it is what we don't know but what we do know is U can't continue to fool everyone all d tym....
