Dear friends,

I want to know why Chinua Achebe described his own people this way.

"Achebe, however, saved some criticisms for his kinsmen. He criticised them for what he described as “hubris, overweening pride and thoughtlessness, which invite envy and hatred or even worse that can obsess the mind with material success and dispose it to all kinds of crude showiness.”

He added that “contemporary Igbo behavior(that) cab offend by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness."

Achebe is very correct, there are evil, envious people all over the country waiting to "winch" you if you succeed, and since nobody expected the Igbo's to rise so fast from the ashes of the civil war, the hate came in torrents from every quarter.

The Igbo's couldn't help matters, instead of hiding their wealth, they flashed it even inside distant lands, buying up choice properties and riding expensive cars even the traditional rulers of these regions cannot afford.

The same thing is still happening today, Igbo's are reaching into other tribes and taking traditional titles, building markets and estates, which only fuels the hate.

It speaks volumes that this topic has not attracted the expected response from The Igbo since 2017!
