I relate to this topic but being an introvert isn't really the issue, so when you are called for an interview read well about the organization, study the common interview questions it gives you confidence during the interview. It worked for me & I'm a quiet type of person who hardly kick-start a conversation. It takes me a long while to get acquainted to people, I usually like isolation because I feel like that's self-respect, I don't care what people think or say about me but I put my best in everything I am doing 2 Likes |

This is interesting. First, I think being an introvert should not stop one from getting a good job, though some jobs are more suitable for extroverts than introverts. We can all improve who we are though we can hardly change who we are. I have discovered we have to consciously go out of our normal way and learn some social skills. It will be very difficult for a start. Reading of some books too like 'why you act the way you do' by Tim Layahe will significant help anyone that want to improve. |

Dynamite02: You know, i have been trying to define these two words and finding where i fit in. I for a person cannot hold a conversation no matter what. I can't even with my parents, brothers or sisters. I find it difficult to find what to say. Also, i have had some few female friends but they all left because i don't keep conv. with them. Well looking at women's eyes are a big problem i avoid them because as soon as i do, i have negative thoughts. Now i cant tell if this is shyness or introversion. I can hardly stop someone one the road be it a guy or a girl. And what the Bleep, one of my friend always tell me that my talks don't have meanings although my Father told me that i can say what ever i want to say that is on my mind. But socially, i don't fit in a group nor do i like going out. It kills slowly sha. |

wkkwl:Agreed which is exactly what am doing; but dont call me dull cos am not. If you had read carefully you would notice its was the pressure of the moment and besides was i suppose to shout back at her,get your facts right before jumping to conclusion. I might be an introvert but doesnt mean i am a dullard. Besides if i was a dullard i wont have gotten any job(without any connection just my brain) after my nysc which i finished not more than 6month ago when i was not the only candidate. I am pretty good at acting and presenting just dont like to show myself, like i dont like too much attention. I prefer being alone and reflect on things. 2 Likes |

pkang: Introverts feel energised when they are alone, they yearn for alone time....while shy people often desperately want to connect with others, but don't know how or can't tolerate the anxiety that comes with human interaction. Shyness is when someone feels awkward or apprehensive when being approached or trying to approach other people, like you've explained in your post. So I'll say your problem is shyness. My advice: Tell yourself you can change..it is not a disease but a "trait" and can be changed, set it as a goal that everything you mentioned there, you are going to do the opposite. Confide in someone close to you that can assist you, someone that can roll with you ( crash parties, attend events, seminars, conferences, trade fairs ,exhibitions etc),read books,go on google and type "dealing with shyness" there are 1001 suggestions there ,take practical steps, with time you'll see positive results. Caution : Too much of everything is bad e.g over confidence is bad..everything should be balanced. |
