Enough of these rants about what Nigerians are that you dont like about them. Good points observed and I agreed but if you do a thorough study of how things are shaped and formed you wont be so myopic in your judgement at the conclusion of your observation about Nigerians. I mean should all Nigerian are 'scammers' as you put even if it is possible, the few percent that are not thrive and succeeds. Nigerian have their names out there on several other things other than scamming, but you did not see that. You blame the whole Nigerians for the condition brought on them by bad and vision-less leadership. Or the culture that promote many of these you mentioned. Mind you I am not being defensive about your points, but if you will do justice to your observations you will know things dont just appear the way they are. There are fundamental factor that is cursing these, we Nigerians know and are concerned as you are, but you can close your eyes and wish all these away. To you Nigeria who shared the views of the author of these write up, you are not in any way different from us. You found yourself in a place where there is the law and order some of yearn you can claim to be better. Given you are still in Nigeria, we probably would wonder how you survived it. Truth is Nigerians are aware of all of the points made in this article but until these fundamntal factors that promotes the menace is gradually and consistently checked we keep having it this way. Thanks for observing us, we still thrive and survive nonetheless. I am pretty sure the USA did not come with fully functioning system as we have it, but a careful and deliberate to make it so. We will get there.... e se gan ni. I am unapologetically Nigerian, I may not be proud of somethings about her, but sentimentally yes I am super proud of my country...All of una go talk say una dey proud of America. I think it safe for me to say I am proud of what I know I have an identity - America no be my papa land and no matter what it is not my country of origin and birth and will never be. 5 Likes 1 Share |

1. I was stopped at a police check-point once, and they held me for expired car registration which only expired the previous week. I begged for mercy, and they asked me to bring 10k; I insisted I only had 1k, the policemen patted me down, and then proceeded to search my car for money. Checked my sun-shields, checked under and in-between the seats -searched my bag . . . all for a bribe. 2. My mechanic is in Anthony, my rewire in Ilupeju, and my A.C man in Ogba. It took me several years to get this scattered crew - not cos each workshop did not have technicians offering all of these services, but cos these people would inflate prices, still do a shitty job, so I can come back to get duped some more. I once went to fix something in my car, and my mechanic called later in the day that my carburetor had packed up and needed a replacement costing 30k; after a lenghty angry argument, my mother intervened for peace sake, and paid from her own pocket 18k to the mechanic to get it sorted. A few months later I was relasting my experience to a frend, and he looked at me puzzled - 'Your car uses an injection system - it does not have a carburettor'. 3. The previous EXCO for my estate was suspected of embezzling estate funds and voted out. The new EXCO inherited x million, and proceeded to try jacking up estate dues by 100% - their reason, the estate cannot subsist on the previous contributions (that even had enough left over to be embezzled). 4. A random fellow at work is getting married and sells aso-ebi to folks at work (I decline to buy). People complain the material is inferior (in relation to price), but dude swears on his mother's life that he added nothing on the price. Someone saunters into a shop in Balogun one sunny saturday, and finds the same fabric for 1/3 of the price it was sold to us. 5. I once resigned from a government job I got straight out of school cos everyone there was indolent and only seemed to look forward to how much they would make. I was young, and wanted to use my brain. My relatives berate me as a fool that does not want to make it in life. 6. I know people requesting for cash gifts from relatives to fund jacked up bills at school. 7. If you are not careful, your Uber driver would try to scam you by taking a much longer route. 8. Like clock-work, NCAN announces drug-dealers caught in Asia, and yahoo boys in South Africa - guess their nationality? 9. A number of hard-working Nigerians in America and the U.K are wary of other Nigerians so they don't gt into trouble either law enforcement. 10. The campus cult Bucaneers is steadily growing into a global criminal empire with strong presence in Italy and Spain with known rackets in woemn trafficking and drug smuggling. 11. I have been sold a car with hidden mechanical faults by a d**khead who swears that if he cheated me Ogun should ruin his life and that of his un-born children. 12. I have witnessed a catholic priest embezzling funds from the church bazaar, and heard of big-time pasterprenuers sleeping with church members. 13. We have celebrities always on vacation in Dubai and other lush locations spending money like it is going out of fashion who we all know make it from runs. 14. We have tons of prostitutes (road-side and 'runs' are the same thing) who are respected members of their clans. 15. ASUU is always on strike to arm-twist the government into increasing pay, which in turn would boost their productivity. If poor pay was the case, we could explain away Lecturers taking bribes from students - ow then do we explain females students being threatened to pull their panties off if they want to graduate? 16. A lot of female job-seekers and marketers have been told point-blank to drop panties without benefit of being considered on merit. 17. I have extra cash and want to start a side-business to be tended by a sales-boy, but I'm cautioned by folks who have had their fingers burnt. In one case, the sales boy was selling the wares and re-stocking thus keeping profits stymieing the owner who has to bear the operating expense of the shop. . . . 24 Likes 3 Shares |

LordOfNaira: I looked through your prior posts. They are unfortunate. Try to apply knowledge to your statements before you insult a whole nation. In the USA the tradespeople do not easily cheat you because they have fixed prices and the Better Business Bureau(BBB) watching them. We dont. It is not they would not if they had the chance. So the problem is systemic and not individual. In Africa and in some other parts of the world, we bargain. In Europe and America bargaining is not part of the culture. You get what you bargain for. Also, you as the customer routinely cheat the tradesman/ woman by paying peanuts. You are prepared to pay a mechanic $500 in the US but you want to pay N800 in Nigeria. How do you expect the person to survive ? In Europe and America if you use a credit card to buy a product or service, many companies will place you on 'recurrent billing' charging you every month without your knowledge or consent. That is theft but I don't hear you criticizing it. Google 'Comcast' and read many horror stories. American hospitals bill up to 500 times the cost of a drug and so many Americans run to Mexico to purchase drugs. They markup treatment by a factor of 20 to 100. I guess that's honest. The American military (Pentagon) has been caught paying $254 for an 18 cent screw. They called it an enhanced metallic fastener ! And $3,000 for a $50 toilet seat. Please we have many problems but dishonesty is not unique to us. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

There are certainly a very large number of Nigerians that are good and upright in all their affairs but I do agree that values have long gone in Nigeria due to perhaps pressure from parents ,for kids to be successful or the kids themselves not being content knowing fully well DAT d more money u acquire legally or illegally d more respect and most times going legit is hard in Nigeria without connection or man know man. Even those DAT are supposed to keep crime in check look the other way sometimes which I don't think exist as much in other climes cos it gives others an incentive to think crime can pay if u HV this or that which shouldn't be. Ppl say on nigerian gals are bad but most of these guys still come from US to marry them Na and d guys DAT marry whites are most times told by parents to do so or pressurized to do so, or feel its easier to get a white gal. I HV been there I could HV dated 10 white gals if I wanted but wen u think half drink or smoke u run or could even cheat at the slightest chance some are good thou but if i find a naija good gal or white good gal which one I go pick Na? . I know some naija gals are money hungry but I realise DAT it is d same everywhere if a gal can't eat wot do u expect d guy does Yahoo ,d gal sells her body to d highest bidder or not. But a lot also don't,even from poor background s and these US based abroad come and carry dem. I say to myself out of all d gals in America u couldn't find 1 and u HV been there 20 years. The same america takes all our talent away and say we are stupid ppl d ones they gave residence permit nko to work their ass off for Americans ain't dey good ones? Yes our leaders are bad very correct , and most of their kids are abroad enjoying the loot of their parents. We know dem Na and some are oblivious to it DAT as nice as their parents are to them they are r killing a lot of ppl back home with their policies and actions. The best thing in Nigeria is just to HV small brain and start lil something prolly hope to grow cos ppl HV made it DAT way and were legit.I HV encountered a white almost beat me up for looking at him coming in my direction my white friend had to fight for me becos it was just for no reason he's like" wot u looking at" u know Na trouble be DAT but I didn't say all whites are racist , did i? My best friend was white self. I HV motivated him several times becos he almost lost it on several occasions but dude saved my life DAT day. So in this life just take everybody as dey come but don't say becos some1 is Nigerian I won't talk to him or white. U never know. |

God please have mercy on us. A country where when you pick up someones thing and gladly return it to him or her. Your best friend on hearing it will come ranting: you are a fool, mumu, dats why you will never succeed in life, you have just wasted an opportunity to boom. Then you will sort of be in hot dilemma. GavelSlam: Its not even up to 10,000. Don't kid yourself. Its just like the identification of italians with mafia, or the chinese with kung fu. What's the percentage of chinese are kung fu masters; or what % of italians are associated with mafia? Its all stereotypes. Americans are associated with gun violence. In the early1980s (strange but true), A Nigerian father actually stopped his son from an American university scholarship because "u may be gunned down in New York, I cant risk you". Because of the author's work on Nigerian Internet fraud, he is inundated with it, he cant see straight anymore. There is a lot wrong with Nigeria and Nigerians, but not worse than other peoples. The country seems worse because of the lack of effective Government to hold people in check. The oyibos are actually very depraved compared to us, but their Government is holding them on a tight leash else they would run a mock and destroy themselves and even the whole world. Think about it, all the corrupt and sordid things of this earth - who initiates and wallows in it? Prostitution (they have even legalized it in some countries), child pornography, child molestation, serial murder, mass murder, genocide, sexual pervertions, drug cartels, ponzi schemes,u name it. This last MMM ponzi fraud sweeping the world, is it also Nigerians? Nigerians are just learning the ropes, and copying from the masters, just as we try to ape every other thing, good or bad. The OP is jus indignant that whites are being made a fool of. Only a corrupt and naive fool would fall for the naija 419 scams, by attempting to gain or reap from the black man without sowing or giving back. The 419 works because the whites have gotten used to cheating the African, and now, that susceptibility is being used against them. If they didnt have that mindset of taking advantage of 'dumb' Africans, the 419 scheme wouldnt work. Its an unfortunate turn of events. 4 Likes 1 Share |
