JiggamanGh:First of all, it was the Akyem that requested Oyo's help. It wasn't on Oyo's ground, because it was an Akyem-Ashanti conflict, but the Akyem had military boost from Oyo. It was the only way they could have won. Second, Akyem and Dahomey were both kingdoms, not empires. Also during this time, Dahomey was an integral part of Oyo because decades earlier Oyo had already defeated and conquered Dahomey and it was absorbed into Oyo empire. Dahomey was a tribute-paying vassal state of Oyo. The Akyem knew Oyo was the only power that could rival Ashanti and help them defeat them, that was why they requested the help Alaafin's mercenaries. Either way, the battle resulted in the defeat of the Ashanti army. |

9jakool: My point is you can't compare your oyo or benin empire to the great Ashanti empire. Oyo would not be able to defeat Ashanti empire by itself. Even th British had hard time defeating the Ashanti empire. |

JiggamanGh:Yet, it took a coalition of Akyem and Oyo to defeat Ashanti in a battle. BTW, It also took the British multiple attempts to conquer Benin and many other states in Nigeria. |

Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by JiggamanGh: 6:31am On May 18, 2017 |
9jakool: It took Akyem and coalition of other Akan tribes, fanti, Dahomey and oyo. It was not even a battle. Ashanti's were on their way to invade dahomey where they were ambush by akyema and other Akan tribes, Dahomey and oyo. During this time Dahomey weren't part of oyo. It was an amabush because we all know they couldn't face Ashanti's on the battle field. |

I keep telling people that Nigeria is a big place with rich history and culture. At least in those areas, Nigeria excel and its contribution cannot be underestimated. 1 Like |

JiggamanGh:excuses...excuses...excuses I like how you underestimate Oyo's role by putting it last. Anyways the battle didn't concern Oyo, it simply sent its mercenaries. By the way, the battle was in 1764 and Dahomey was part of Oyo between 1740-1823. |

Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by 9jakool: 7:22am On May 18, 2017 |
fanficgirl:Haha , good thing it was found in the remote part of Yobe because we know those very special type of people who would love to claim that the people who built it couldn't have been Africans. Anyways, Yobe state is very close to lake Chad and parts of Yobe was once covered in lake Chad before it started drying out and strinking due to the encroaching Sahara desert. According to Scientist, back in 5,000 BC, lake Chad, known as Mega lake Chad was much bigger and was the largest lake in Africa. It was larger than all of Germany, France and Netherlands combined. The boat could have been an explanation of the lake cultures around the area and the extent of the lake. Here is a pic of mega lake chad thousands of years ago. Even though it's the driest region in Nigeria today, most of Northeastern Nigeria was under water then. 2 Likes 1 Share

Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by 9jakool: 7:30am On May 18, 2017 |
fanficgirl:Yes, as a vassal state you must pay tribute. You also don't have complete independence, since you are a territory that must answer to Oyo's rule. It wasn't until king Ghezo's rule almost a century later that Dahomey was able to completely secure its independence from Oyo. 1 Like |

iblawi: Well, the statistics we have posted here have proven u wrong in most of these. Apart from culture, mining, oil and gas (which I would categorize as part of the mining sector), Gdp pc and stock exchange, Kenya trounces Nga in all the other aspects. Nigeria may be producing more electricity than Kenya, but relative to its population size, it is far from efficient. Kenya on the other hand, with its 2300mw, we cant say it is good enuff.....but it serves the demannd just fine. 1 Like |
