Nigeria is very genetically diverse. It has the highest twinning rate in the entire world for example. Scientists have found the rate of R1b gene at high frequencies among Chadic people of Nigeria and Northern Cameroon as well as in Western Europe. The Hausa in particular and other Chadic groups like Marghi share this genetic trait. Anyways this genetic trait isn't solely skin color based because the Hausa are mostly dark-skinned. I used this example to show the genetic diversity in Nigeria. There are also a large chunk of Nigerians with dark or medium dark skin tones. The 70%/77% is an obvious overestimation. if that was true, almost every Nigerian would be light skin. Also most Nigerians who actually bleach don't usually share it. Why? Because it's not the norm, you get shunned very easily. A lot of the western media/organizations like to peddle that 51% of Nigerians live in rural areas, yet at the same time say 77% of Nigerian women bleach. In the North, many people are very conservative that they cover their heads, why would they bleach when the consequences would be high?

Yes, Dahomey was freed by a European Brazilian. He was the descendant of a Portuguese colonial governor in Brazil before he migrated to Dahomey. You have to realize that when someone is named "the greatest slave trader," that title alone means something. Souza was very wealthy as a slave dealer and oddly enough he very influential in the society and had a lot of local support. He also had a lot of African "wives" and 80 children or more. Even more odd he was a Catholic but also a practitioner of Togo/Benin vodun religion. The reason why Souza was jailed because he asked for the money he lend to the king. Ghezo did not free Souza. Souza escaped from prison and exiled himself. Remember he was still rich. Anyways, in exile, he sent money and gifts to Ghezo, the king's brother. Why? So that he could use the money to gain support on the ground for the coup they were plotting. You can't just come in and claim the throne from someone else without the public backings. So, it was more like a deal. Ghezo gets to ascend his brother's throne, and Souza gets to return home. That basically sums up the friendship. Under Ghezo, Souza received a chieftain title. Dahomey was launching rebellious raids in Oyo's territory. Remember, Dahomey had to pay tributes to Oyo and Oyo was also controlling much of their affairs including military and economic related affairs. For some years, Ghezo refused to pay tributes to Oyo as a sign of defiance. Souza was asked to negotiate peace with Oyo and talks failed. Oyo was growing out of patience and Dahomey fought numerous times with Oyo. This point in time is known as the fall of Oyo. Oyo was weakened due to the Sokoto Jihad from the North it had to defend itself from and the rebellions brewing in its numerous states. In a final battle, Ghezo with the help of Souza secured a victory and independence from Oyo.
