In this country, marriage for an atheist is a difficult thing. 90% of the available single ladies and gentlemen are religious. To be precise, the religious people would mostly be either christians or muslims.

I for one, do not want to get married in a church. Who has time for couple's counselling. Who has time to waste in 2 hours sermon about marriage?

Also, for a woman, I do not want to be beaten to death by an angry fiancee over not going to their church or mosque.

Yes, there are more male atheists than females and I do not see that changing. I think it is because of the way women are treated in this part of the world.

I feel you. I'm Nigerian, male and open/vocal atheist. I'd prefer to marry a Nigerian woman but all the good options I've come across are all theists and don't wanna marry an atheist, even though they openly fornicate and do other sins with me o. lol

And while I'm ok with traditional marriage customs, I'm not going to pay bride price on any woman. I believe that's one custom that desperately needs to end, because it heavily contributes to patriarchy and the ridiculous mentality that so many men have over their wives.

Or if fiancee is ok with the custom, then she has to pay the brideprice herself. I'm not 'buying' a wife.

Wouldn't that also mean that there's scarcity of single women to marry among the atheist fold. Meaning also that some Christian ladies stand the risk of marrying atheists.
