What do your friends know about buddha that they are mocking or Abi are you not a Nigerian? as to answer your questions I won't be so sure but my best friend who is a deeper life member I was scared I was going to loose her but she stayed we are still best friends though she always use to preach for me. I think the key is learning to respect once belief irrespective of if it opposes yours

Seems more like he deliberately left it out so that he could come back with the "oh I forgot, they mocked me first". If that's the case, I don't know why he's calling those people his friends.

Its one thing to change your beliefs and another thing to mock the beliefs of your friends. They didn't leave you because of your belief, they left you because you mocked their God, one which they have a personal relationship with. That's not very friendly of you.
