Dutch Coach Rates Liverpool Loanee Awoniyi As Best Teen Forward In Holland At The Moment

The form of on loan Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi has earned him praises from the coach of his loan side NEC Nijmegen, where he has found the back of the net in a row in their last three games .

It took a while for the 19 year old forward to get going in the Dutch League after joining NEC Nijmegen on a season long loan deal from Liverpool in the summer.

However he has picked up his form when it matters most for the Dutch side who are struggling to stay in the top division in the Netherlands via the play-offs.

Caretaker coach of the Dutch outfit Ron de Groot praised the forward as the best teen forward in Holland at the moment after the forward netted the third goal for his team in their 3-1 win over FC Emmen.

” He (Awoniyi) has a way of coming alive in the box, ahead of defenders who are supposed to keep an eye on him. He is to me the best teen striker in Holland based on current form. His quality has never been in doubt”, he said.

” Liverpool won’t sign Awoniyi if he isn’t one for the future. It has always been in him to score goals, so what we are seeing now, it’s just the manifestation of his true quality “.

NPFL title race takes shape in home stretch; musical chairs for managers

9:12 AM PT
Colin Udoh
After nearly three weeks of rest and recuperation to allow teams recover from the grueling schedule of two matches a week, the Nigeria Professional League returns this weekend for its home stretch.

Here are five things we can expect from the business end of the season.

1. Odey drama

Few can deny that MFM striker Stephen Odey has been the focal talking point of this season. It is no less than a man who has scored 14 goals in 19 games rightly deserves. But Odey saved his drama for midseason.

After a demanding half season of two games a week, travel across the length and breadth of the country and being the subject of some very close attention from defenders, the forward was one of those expected to use the break most prudently to recharge his batteries for a more difficult second round.

Instead, he cantered off to Europe for what has variously been described -- depending on who is telling the tale -- as a trial or medical or both.

In the end, he returned without a contract, apologized to his club and says he is ready to continue his challenge on Mfon Udoh's 23-goal league scoring record.

The question is, will Odey have enough in the tank to do so? This is the brutal end half of the season and defenders will be on high alert against him. If he does manage to hit that mark despite all these troubles, he will be a great player indeed. If he exceeds it, we might as well grant him legendary status.

2. Fewer goals as attacks become more cautious

Speaking of goals, historically the second half of the season has always been marked by a slowdown in scoring.

Teams are either jostling for the title, continental places, or just plain doing their hardest to stave off relegation. A direct consequence is an overabundance of attacking caution, which allows defenders free, crunching reins on their opposition.

Odey and the rest of the Golden Boot-chasing posse are about to find life a tad more onerous in the coming weeks.

3. League organizers deal with crowd trouble

While the forwards and defenders are battling it out on the pitch, expect a few more pockets of crowd disturbances, especially near or around the bottom of the rung.

League organizers have done an exemplary job so far of stamping down on crowd violence in the grounds, but faced with the threat of relegation, fans sometimes tend to develop temporary amnesia towards any potential consequences.

It is that time of the year when the League Management Company (LMC) becomes extra vigilant and hits hard and quick at rule infractions. A few clubs already have suspended sentences hanging over their heads. Do not be surprised to see at least one team banished to a neutral ground for the rest of the season. If that happens, it could end up determining how the title race (and, in fact, other races) plays out.

4. Musical chairs for more coaches

So far, about four coaches have been fired, including last season's title-winner Imama Amapakabo.

There will be more to come. Again, look to the bottom rung of the table for the prospective managers on their way out.

Already Rangers technical director Christian Chukwu has made it clear to interim coach Agbo Chukwuma that his position is only as good as the results he squeezes out of his squad. So far, the Flying Antelopes have managed to crawl their way up from the bottom of the table and now sit one place above the drop zone, separated only by goal difference.

There is no job safety guaranteed for any coach whose team sits anywhere between 14th (Kano Pillars) and 20th position (Remo Stars).

5. Title race takes shape

At the more jolly end of the table, the jostling will be for the one team who can dislodge Plateau United from the summit.

Kennedy Boboye has already warned that there is disappointment in store for those who expect his team to falter.

"I know many are not expecting us to remain at the top. I have a team that will not be easy to push out. All I will say is keep watching," said the Plateau coach.

I don't like this one bit..... let them sort out this issue and let Nacho be abeg!!!!

Dispute could stall Iheanacho's City exit

By Colin Udoh

Kelechi Iheanacho's proposed summer move away from Manchester City to get more playing time could be stalled, at least until a dispute with his former representatives is sorted out.

Iheanacho, 20, is now represented by Stellar Group but is being sued, along with Manchester City and Stellar, by his former representatives First Eleven Management.

A source close to the player says a decision is expected in no less than a fortnight.

"Nothing can happen [with regards to a transfer] until this issue is resolved," said the source, who did not wish to be named in order to protect the case.

In the player's defence, the Nigeria striker claims in the lawsuit that he was deceived into signing over rights to his name and image to First Eleven Management, a Pennsylvania-based football agency jointly owned by Robert Zanicky and Raymond Hassay.

Iheanacho's relationship with Zanicky began in early 2013, following the African Under-17 Championships. An agreement was signed in July 2013 by Zanicky and Iheanacho's father.
The contract, worth $1,000, ceded Iheanacho's image rights to Zanicky, Hassay and their combined venture, First Eleven Management.

When he turned 18, the forward says he was convinced to sign another contract that turned over 100 percent of his image rights to RHRZ LLC and Team Kelechi LLC, based in Pittston.

"The assignment governs all of Kelechi's image rights, defined to include all legal and beneficial rights and goodwill stemming from Kelechi's name, nickname, initials, autograph, caricature, reputation and endorsements," the lawsuit states. It also prohibited Iheanacho from signing with another party for the use of his image or likeness.

That contract meant that First Eleven, acting as Team Kelechi's exclusive agent, was able to market, sell or license Kelechi's image.

First Eleven were to receive 20 percent of the gross revenue, while the duo of Zanicky and Hassay would receive 50 percent compensation from RHRZ LLC.

Iheanacho also claims in his lawsuit that at the time their first contract was agreed upon, he was not aware of Zanicky's suspension from the practice of law after pleading no contest to two counts of corruption of minors.

Zanicky, who was president of the United Soccer Training Academy, pleaded no contest in 2013 to charges of corrupting the morals of two girls, who were 16 and 17 at the time.

Iheanacho is asking the courts to dissolve his contract with First Eleven LLC, RHRZ LLC, Hassay and Zanicky. He is also seeking punitive damages and attorneys' fees and expenses.

The number listed for First Eleven on their webpage was redirected to a voicemail account which had apparently not been set up.

Iwobi: I Need To Create, Score More Goals And Get Back In Arsenal Team

 19 May 2017
 Headlines, Top Stories

Nigerian forward, Alex Iwobi has admitted that he needs to start creating more scoring chances to regain his place in the starting line-up of Arsenal, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Iwobi made his first appearance in two months for Arsenal coming off the substitute's bench in the 69th minute for Kieran Gibbs as the Gunners defeated Sunderland 2-0 in an English Premier League game on Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium.

The 21 year old forward who last featured scored a goal for Arsenal in their 2-1 loss at home to Watford in January, also played down his impact in Arsenal's victory over the Black Cats.

Iwobi's introduction three minutes afterwards saw Arsenal take the lead through Alexis Sanchez. The Chile international went on to bag a brace in the encounter.

"I need to work hard, create more goals and score more goals," Iwobi told Arsenal Player.

"I’ve been trying to do that in training and hopefully, get back in the team. So I’ve just been patient.

"The main thing is we’re getting the three points, we’re winning games, so as long as the team is winning, that’s my main concern."

"I guess I had a little impact but it’s [about] the team. We upped the tempo, we were able to get the two goals and able to get the result we needed.

"The tempo was very high, I haven’t played in a while, so you can see I’m blowing, I’m tired! But it was a great match to be involved in and the result we needed is what we got – we just need to keep fighting for top four.

Arsenal face Everton in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, and will be aiming to win and hope either Liverpool or Manchester City lose to stand a chance of finishing in the top four.

Chelsea Demand N3.4 Billion For Super Eagles Defender Kenneth Omeruo - Report

A clutch of Turkish clubs including Kasimpasa and Alanyaspor are interested in signing Kenneth Omeruo in the summer, but it is left to be seen whether they could match a seven million pounds (N3.36 billion) valuation by Chelsea for the Nigeria defender.

A top source informed SCORENigeria: “There are some clubs in Turkey who are interested in signing Kenneth at the end of the season.

“They will include Kasimpasa, who he played for last season, and also his current club Alanyaspor.

“But the snag will be if they could come up with the seven million pounds Chelsea want for the player.”

Last summer, Besiktas were also keen to sign Omeruo, but they could not give a commitment to Chelsea that they will sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the loan.

This season, the 23-year-old defender has made 24 appearances and scored a goal for Alanyaspor.

Troost-Ekong & Kalu Make Team Of The Week In Belgium After Strong Showing For Gent

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has been rewarded for his strong performance for Belgian side Gent with a spot in the team of the week after the latest round of games in Belgium.

His Nigerian counterpart at the club Samuel Kalu was also nominated in the list compiled by Voetbalkrant following the penultimate round of games in the play-offs.

The duo were instrumental in the club’s 5-2 win over Zulte- Waregem with Kalu scoring once and providing two assists in the five goals they put past Zulte-Waregem.

Ekong helped Gent defence curtail the threats of feared Zulte-Waregem attack duo of Mbaye Leye and Sander Coopman during the course of the game despite conceding twice.

They were not the only players of Gent in the team of the week as Yuya Kubo and goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic were also nominated in the list of the top players of the week in Belgium.

Out Of Favour Eagles Ace Esiti Happy To Be Back, Thanks Fans For Their Support

Anderson Esiti was once again rated among the top performers for Belgian side Gent in their 5-2 win over Zulte-Waregem in the Europa/Champions League play-offs in Belgium.

Esiti was handed a start on his return from injury and the 24 year old didn’t disappoint as he put in a strong performance to help his side pick up the win which guarantees them a spot in next season Europa League.

However, the hard tackling midfielder is already setting his sight on the bigger price, which is qualification for the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League, and a victory against Club Brugge on Sunday will take them close to his target.

” I have played in the Europa League but I heard from others that the Champions League is something else. My goal is to play at the highest possible level. Until now it is the Europa League, but if I get the chance to play in the Champions League I won’t say no to it”, Esiti said.

He rounded up by praising the supporters of the team for their support, especially when he heard them sing out his name in praise during the course of the game against Zulte-Waregem.

” They (fans) are the ones who have supported me from day one. It does sound incredible to hear them chant my name. I appreciate it mightily. They are not just there for us in bad days, they are also with us in good days. I’m grateful for that. I’m glad we could give them a nice win in our last home game”.

Enyimba strikers Obiozor, Okonkwo off on trials overseas

Enyimba are without star strikers Christian Obiozor and Chinonso Okonkwo, who are away on trials in Morocco and Vietnam, respectively.

Officials informed scorenigeria.com.ng Enyimba will begin the second round of the NPFL without both strikers.

Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai said the team will cope in their absence.

“There is no cause for alarm, we are ready for the second round and we have quality replacements for Chinonso and Obiazor, who has not been playing as he only recovered fully from a knee injury,” he told SCORENigeria

“Just watch out for Enyimba in the second round. We hope to get a result at Remo Stars in Sagamu and from there we are going to Akure to play Sunshine Stars.

“We have double away matches and we can’t afford to lose these two matches because we wish to play on the continent next year.”

Reuben Gabriel Opens Account In Finland, KuPS Star Man Salami Also On Target

Out-of-favour Nigeria international Reuben Gabriel opened his goalscoring account in Finland, helping Veikkausliiga side KuPS to register their fourth win in the new season after a 2-1 success over Lahti.

The former Boavista midfielder doubled the away team's advantage in the 68th minute, shortly after Gbolahan Salami netted his ninth goal of the season in all competitions.

Ex-Warri Wolves skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe and Gabriel worked a full shift for KuPS, while the star player Salami was replaced in the 80th minute.

In March, the central midfielder penned a one-year contract, with the Kuopio based side retaining the option to activate a one-year extension at the end of this season.

KuPS provisionally occupy the third position on the table after seven games.

I think he would get playing time at Everton if Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku leave at the end of the season, as being rumored.

In addition, the primary reason why I want him to make Everton his first choice, Koeman has demonstrated (at Sothhampton and Everton) that he knows how to develop young players....turn average players into very good ones. Not all coaches can do that.

And by the way, wetin happen btw Koeman and Barkley? Do you wanna share? grin

O pari

They have Kevin Miralles, Valencia, Ademola and Bolasie. To fit in he will need time on the pitch and with those options it will be hard.

Koeman has been all over Barkley. Never says a good word about him and even gave him a week to sign or be sold. After his winner v Watford Koeman still gave him the cold shoulder.

My point is Osimhen is the gifted type of player. Every coaches' dream. A sharp striker who can lay deep passes from the midfield like a No.10.

Do you wonder why he walked straight into Siasia's team right from U17?
Or you wonder why Wolve's coach rushed him into the starting line up just fresh from injury?
Why does Rohr keep insisting on him?

The coaches simply see a technical gem on the training grounds.

He is untested but he is much more of a gem than Onyekuru.

The modern game prefers highly technical guys to those who can sprint all day with with no end result..... because in big and tough games, precision (of passes, shots, crosses, tackles etc) and technicality is what would matter most on the pitch.

Conclusion:
I see what Rohr and other coaches see in Osimhen and I stand with Rohr's decision to include him in the team ahead of Onyekuru whether tested or not.

We have many Onyekurus already (musa, simon etc.......they all play with their head down and final passes lets them down 7 out of 10 times).
But we rarely produce an Osimhen.

Osimhen is untested, unproven and rated by who? If he was exceptional he should be playing first team at Wolfsburg.

All he has done is played youth football and beyond that nothing. You cannot use past glories particularly at youth level to rate a player.

Furthermore, Osimhen is recovering from Injury and has not done anything all season. That is totally unfair to players who are cutting it and have become proven and tested like Onyekuru.

It is the Rohr that is so expansive, substantive, methodical and objective. That invited a boy Josh Maja to the Eagles camp from lowly Sunderland who has not played any first team football. In the general scheme of things he would struggle to be in the top 50 Nigerian origin U21 players.

Meanwhile Aluko who is playing fantastic football at the best footballing side in the championship has not been called up.

In this regard I believe the Nigerian factor is still alive and kicking unfortunately.

I will have to disagree with you.

Do you know how many players Liverpool signs each year of which some will never smell the first team.

From what I can see, I can not see Awoniyi going on any pre-season tour. Playing in the lower segment of the Dutch Eredivisie does not translate to quality.

Consider how much was paid for Ilori and he was at Liverpool for three years plus and was never anywhere near first team football. Add to that Danny Ings bought for about £7 million in 2015 who has barely smelled the first team.

In the scheme of things Awoniyi is way down the the ladder. They can let him go for nothing it won't even hit the internal headlines.

The bolded is uncalled for because Osimhen was injured even after he signed his pro-deal after his 18th birthday (Dec.29) in January.

He scored in his very first game in a friendly for Wolfsburg even before his pro-deal became official. He was given the No.18 jersey which shows he is marked out for first team football by the coaches at Wolfsburg. Special attention have been given to the lad.

The lad have been so carefully worked on in his recuperation period and is now back to full fitness judging from his bundesliga debut just last week. He was highly impressive when he came on in the 51st minute.

So isn't that Osimhen playing first team football in one of Europe's best leagues?? He just came back from injury and the coach throws him into a game that is so crucial to Wolfsburg's survival hopes in the bundesliga and you say what you said in the bolded.... Sir Komekn... you are being overly harsh when it comes to Osimhen and you have always been. It is not fair ooo....

There is no sentiment just cold clear facts, Osimhen does not deserve a call.

Which is why you make a fallacious comment about Osimhen ba??

Reason why you go on singing the same song of "if he is good enough, he should be playing week in, week out for Wolfsburg??"

A player who has been recuperating from injury should play week in, week out ba?? Are you just being deliberately blind to the fact that he has been injured and just made his full return to fitness and the coach wasted no time in giving him his debut in a crucial game??

As for Osimhen's Super Eagles call... it is justified and there is nothing you or anyone can do about it. Goan remove his name from the list naa.... na wa ooooo....

Lad is 18 and a top top talent... Rohr knows what he is doing with a special protege like Osimhen. So let Rohr be....

Rohr invited Mikel Agu... nobody wanna talk on that one. He invited Odey... una don cool down... he even included Alhassan Ibrahim and Sikiru.... una Neva dey satisfied...

Now he calls up Onyekuru... una still dey ask for many more.....

So Rohr should call up a whole new list of players then is that it??

Thanks Goodness, some of una no dey close to our national team jobs.... it would have been catastrophic I tell you. Let Rohr be.... he is no fool.

In comparison too players who are cutting it proven and tested like Onyekuru. It is very unfair to invite Osimhen over and above players who have done so much more.

There is no sentiment just cold clear facts, Osimhen does not deserve a call.

I do not see how anyone can prefer an unproven forward to a proven one.

At least Onyekuru has successfully played against defenders in a professional league, the Belgian league is one of the best in Europe, so I don't know how you can refer to them as 'backwater' defenders.

Osimhen on the other hand only has experience at age grade level, he is yet to face backwater defenders sef, just because he's in Germany doesn't make him better than Onyekuru for now, bear in mind, Onyekuru is just a year older.

If you must compare him, why don't you do so against the likes of Moses Simon who plays against the same 'backwater defenders', but still doesn't have 23 goals to his name?

I agree with you.

Maybe it's time to rate the leagues in Europe.

The premiership may not be as technical (debatable) as the Spanish league.

But is without doubt the fastest and most physically demanding in Europe, many a star have come from Spain and Portugal and flopped.

Where would I place the Belgium league definitely not one of the best, there are 50 or more leagues in Europe and Belgium would be around 10/11 to me.

However, you can still be fantastic player in a low league. You just need a chance to prove your quality.

Looking at Onyekuru he seems a bit lightweight for the premiership if I am to be honest. I still believe he is better and more justified to be included in the SE than Osimhen.

Saying that I do not rate any of them above Aluko who the powers that be in the NFF it seems are it blocking him from the SE.

Playing the your first and last game of the season is not a testament to fitness and ability. It will take months to get to full fitness after a whole season out of football.

It is not rational you create a double standard justification, with your comments see bold.

There is nothing debatable about the technical qualities of both leagues.

The LA Liga and the Bundesliga are Europe's best "technically proficient" leagues. The EPL is just easily the most intense, fastest and most physically demanding.

O pari (forgive me Sir Icon79)

There is another game this weekend I believe... against Hamburg. Bet on Osimhen playing a good part in that game.

Osimhen returned to a fitness level good enough to make the coach risk him in a game Wolfsburg needed to win or draw to keep their bundesliga status hopes alive and you are here still yarning terminologies.

Osimhen has been struggling for fitness since January.... is that so hard to understand?? He just made his full recovery and was thrown into the deep end almost immediately....

What are you on about with the bolded... because that is me asking you a question as to why a player who is injured and recuperating will play week in, week out??

You always use the funny line... "If he is that good, he should walk into Wolfsburg first team" and totally ignore the fact that the lad has been trying to bounce back from injury woes....

Osimhen played Wolfsburg last game. The only reason, he had not made his debut was injury not ability.

Football ability is under pinned by fitness and furthermore by match fitness ( getting sharpness)

Ability was not in question all the ability in the world will amount to ZERO without fitness. Playing one game does not equate to full fitness, he is on the comeback trail.

In this regard unjustifiable.

Yes, he is on the comeback trail... I think the coach has him as part of the future of the team not the present. Rohr has an extensive German network so he must know about the boy's ability from coaches within Wolfsburg.

All the fitness in the world won't make one a football player with class.... it is either you got it or you don't... Class and Special talent is never defined by full fitness. Osimhen is a special breed..... and Rohr rates the lad highly. His slot in the team is as a special protege same as Alampasu.... Rohr spoke on this once or twice in an interview I read about sometime ago. Rohr has a little of his attention on the future also even as he focuses on the now....

That is not hard to grab.
