I am yet to see a scammer that admits upfront to being one. They all tell you how genuine they are, how they can provide evidence to back their claims.

Secondly since your dad is alive you should make him take up his responsibility and stop trying to pass it on to people that had no hand in your birth. You father's job is not just to knack your mom and make children. You letting him off the hook is an encouragement to other would-be deadbeat fathers.

Ask around there are organization that can take up your mom's case if she can prove that your dad is not living up to his responsibilities he will be made to pay up.
I suggest you do that than looking for someone that will clean up your father's mess.

OP, its a good thing you have a business idea you want to follow through.

Why not work and save towards that? Nothing wrong in saving towards your goals.

Get some odds jobs, be a nanny to busy people and help them in their homes.

Look for ushering events, contact event planners and let them know you're available to be an usher, contact caterers and let them know you can serve food, wash plates after events.
You may even be able to partner with other people you meet while working, and you both can contribute to start up your business.
At least have a little saviings towards that.

It is not about the amount it is about principle. I have watched people get scammed in a bid to help someone that pretended to be in need. I know their antics, if you want to fall for it, good luck go ahead and send her your money. But I will keep calling her (if she is truly a her) out and reminding her to hold her parents responsible for her well being. We should send her money (that is if her request is genuine which I seriously doubt) ten years down the line she will come back here to post how much she loves her parents for all the sacrifice they made for her.

Your budget is way underestimated, and here is the bitter truth:

1. You cannot do this biz all by yourself in a student environment even if you decide to forfeit your education. Implication is that you'd need to employ an extra hand.

2. You cannot combine this biz with schooling and still make enough money to afford your feeding, school fee, and annual rent for 100L

3. Your budget is about N440,000., however let me remind you that majority of Nigerians do not have this kind of money in their accounts...so soliciting this sum may come off as "greed" just because you have family issues and a business idea. As a matter of fact, everyone have family issues and "business ideas".

4. Don't make it sound like you want to work hard and excel so you can "show" your father how much greatness you have in you. Truth is that 99% of persons do not care about your father's actions and inactions.

5. What course did you apply for? and your JAMB score?

6. Take pictures as proof of your candidature and solicit for your 100 Level budget. Tell anyone that cares to listen about your idea and see how you can get some funds. You have some months left to 'hustle' and save towards your biz but this shouldn't be your aim for the first year.

I don't know the magic you want to perform with your capital in few months that will enable you pay your 100L fees, feeding needs and hostel accommodation.

7. Towards the end of my 300L, I had similar idea but had to funds. Guess what I did? I partnered with a friend (business freak) who lived in the school hostel. He had the constant electricity, a computer and a printer (I didn't have any of these as of that period), but I had one thing which he didn't have - Skill - Ms-Word, PowerPoint, plus I type fast. We had a sharing formula and it favoured us both.

Implying that you don't have to literally 'beg' most of the time. What you have (which you perhaps take for granted) can actually give you a a bargaining power. I did typesetting for years (without a shop) and never settled for the ridiculous pay typists get from business centre owners. You can run your biz in your hostel (a lot of students do this). It will save you cost on fuel, generator, rent, dues, levies, etc, while allowing you focus on your studies (which for me is priority).

I've learnt a bitter lesson in life: no one will help nobody; not even girlfriends that you love dearly. Even when they see you struggling, they will still be more concerned about what they can get out of you. Other people who might want to help almost allways have their personal responsibilities to bear. So every man for himself and God for everyone.

Exactly Upworks is an example just a laptop and Internet connection I do jobs for people outside Nigeria however that's software Dev, @OP what are your computer skills or writing or anything take a look at Upworks it doesn't require any initial startup but patience

I never knew those things are that expensive, I know that photocopier and refrigerator are very expensive so I dint plan to buy new one but second hand.

Yes, I have been there. I believe in starting small, great things begin in small ways. I remembered how I walked to Afribank back in the days to deposit my share of the total earnings after several weeks of working. I got something around N19k. It was like a dream come true. I'm still doing business on freelance basis today and still do not have an office space. You can achieve a lot without necessarily investing too much on assets, rent and operation cost.

Sometime around 2014, someone called me from Nairaland and requested for a PowerPoint job (over 1000 slides) few days after I posted my pp services on Arts/Graphics section (with a different moniker though). The whole work was done in my family house in faraway Kogi state back then, while client called in somewhere in the southwest region. Around same period, I met with school heads to outsource their exam papers to me. It was so massive that I had to beg one of my cousins to help. I had since entered into my actual line of interest and still "starting small" without a physical office space. 400k may not come easily, how about doing something with 40k?
