"Hon, just let them go. We'll have the house to ourselves that way." Daddy interceded on our behalf.
"Chai daddy!" Rachel exclaimed.
"Any problem?" He asked her grinning from ear to ear.
"None at all sir." She did a mock salute.
"Daddyyy..." I drawled as I moved to his side.
"Yeah baby,I know what you want to ask. I have your packages in my bag." He replied.
Dad delivered all the gifts he brought for us as early Christmas presents. He didn't leave anyone out.
He even had the mind to get a pair of shoes for Philip. I was vexed to the bone marrow.
Mum forced us all to our rooms to sleep.
The next day, Jason and I were on kitchen duty so we prepared breakfast.
We decided to see some movies before Jathniel arrived.(It was all my idea though. I sort of coerced everyone).
The last one we watched moved all of us to tears at the end- Letters To God,a 2010 movie. The movie was about a young boy fighting cancer. He died at the end and everyone except Jason was shedding tears.
The door swung open and Jathniel walked in. He wore a blue jean short-sleeved shirt with matching pair of trousers. The outfit brought out his fair complexion really well. We were too engrossed in the movie to hear his car drive in.
"What's wrong with you all?" He questioned with a frown on his face.
"These fine ladies have proved they're babies. All these tears are because of common movie my brother." Jason explained to him,laughing in the process.
"Even the rugged Rachel cried? Na wa o. Sorry ehn,kpe." He consoled.
"It's alright. We'll go get ready." Gloria said.
"I'm waiting." Jathniel replied.
"Mum,dad, Jathniel's here." I announced as I walked to my room.
"We're coming baby." Dad yelled from their room.
Jason was the only one who dressed up in his room. The girls and I dressed up in mine.
We all wore knee - length Dansiki dresses with fancy sandals.
We managed to finish in record time,even Jason was surprised. He decided to wear jeans just like Jathniel. We got downstairs to meet dad and mum conversing with Jathniel.
"Well,well, my girls look sweet." Mum commented.
"Thanks mum." We chorused.
"Jathniel,are you sure you'll be able to cover the expenses of taking these children out alone?" Daddy asked.
"Yes sir. It's the least I could do." He replied smiling.
"Alright then, Philip will drive some people." Mum said and I frowned.
"No,there's no need for that ma. I brought the Hyundai Santa Fe. It's a seven-seater vehicle. We'll be fine." He said.
"Oh OK. Take care of my babies especially that timid one." Mum pointed at Jamille.
"Mumsy, he'll do it before you ask sef." Rachel put in,earning a scowl from mum.
"And you,Rachel don't embarrass me with that your mouth."
"Trust me mummy love." She replied before pecking mum on the right cheek.
Mummy laughed.
"Oya, get going. Love you all." Mum blew a kiss in the air.
We filed outside and met Philip standing by the car.
Before anyone could have the chance to speak, I walked up to Philip.
"Mum says you shouldn't bother taking us there so that the sand on the beach won't reject us because of your presence." I said to him with a sly smile.
Everyone burst into an uncontrollable laughter while I cat walked to the car.
Jason sat in front while the rest of us were at the back. The beach was out of Uyo so the ride was a bit lengthy but fun.
Jathniel was more fun than I expected. I caught myself admiring his small eyes and broad shoulders more than once.
"Gosh,what's wrong with me." I thought to myself.
The outing was so much fun with lots of pictures and playing. We returned home around 5pm in the evening that day.
Jamille was really lively all through the day. I was happy that she had improved over the past few months.
When we got home,dad and mum were on their way out.
I persuaded Jathniel to stay for a while with us and he did.
