1. Western union quick pay is the commonly used method however in the past " Nigeria " western union did not have quick pay so it could not be done in Nigeria. This seek help is for someone abroad to help u pay mostly by WU...... recently someone mentioned a branch of 1st bank in lekki that now offers quick pay and hence sevis payment
2. I am not sure
3. U need at least 6 months date on ur passport to attend an F1 visa so also to travel so ideally may is 6months to Nov so you need new passport. Definitely to travel at least
4. You can print what you have but the tuition waiver amount will be on your i20 and that where the VO will be able to see and pick it up from. .... but u can carry any soft copy u have just for carrying sake I really appreciate your concern and time spent answering. I am more educated by your explanation. I have started the re-issue process this morning. Do you help people with the WU SEVIS payment, or I should refer back to Walspring for this? I would want to complete the payment in about 40hrs from now latest. I will print all you mentioned. Thank you as I await your response |

LagosismyHome:
Everything UniV will offer you UPenn will offer and maybe much more especially when you have funding for both option.... but Pennstate ok that a different conversation
Let me find and paste her explanation... Even if we replace PennState with UPenn, her decision would still have made sense for her particular situation. I might sound crazy but after 2 sleepless nights of thorough contemplation, I think I will have to resign the Penn State appointment. Yes, I have spent about 300k to send transcripts, ship I-20 and paid reservation on an apartment lease but it's really about what I want out of the PhD program. The stipend Virginia is offering is actually a little less than Penn but it's a GRA that is guaranteed till I finish my program so long as I maintain 3.0GPA, and the research fellowship covers all tuition fees and health insurance. On top of that, my POI guarantees funding for travel for conferences, and pushes his students to deliver poster presentations and publish papers every year. He seems to invest a lot of time in his students and I really like that. And in that department, there are 3 other Profs in the same research area. That encourages sharing of information and the students can always assist and encourage each other.
On the Other hand, Penn State offers a GTA for the first year and you are supposed to explore research areas within your first year and hopefully match a Prof that can offer you GRA. If that fails, then you are stuck with GTA till you find GRA or maybe till the end of your program. In my case, there is only 1 Prof in my research area. So the big question is ...what if she does not have funding? And I remember her telling me last 2 years when I was just exploring that she had no funding and that if I were to apply and be accepted, my only hope would be the departmental GTA which is what is happening now. I tried to contact her again during this application process but she never responded. So I don't know if situations have changed.
My main objective of studying for a PhD is build research skills and I want to start developing that from day 1. That will even facilitate an early completion of the program. I don't want to be stuck 'building communication skills' and at the end of the first year, I can't even set up a simple experiment and no headway on how to start my research. The other good thing about Virginia is that in my 3rd/4th year, I will be required to serve partly as a TA to build communication skills. That way, it's like getting the best of both worlds.
Whilst Carnegie Mellon rejected me, I was never going to go there because they are not strong in my research area. In fact, they don't even offer it. I know I might sound silly but I just wanted to test it because Nastydamus was going to apply there and he had my same GRE scores, LOL. The last school is UPitt, no news from that end at all and frankly, I can't be bothered.
No, I am not waiting for Ohio. I spent my money and time to apply and I want to know what they eventually decide. It's also a fully funded program through strictly GRAs.
In the end, Penn State is higher ranked than UVA but I don't think the difference is so significant. I don't want to join a program that I am not really happy with just because of a 'little bit more name' . And I really hope that I am making the right decision. It's the immensity of my contribution to knowledge that will give me Green Card (if Trump go gree) and a rewarding career in research.
Sorry for my long speech this hot Sunday afternoon!

Am for fall 2017 in Applied economics and thr professor for my statistics course says been proficient with R would help a lot. Any suggestions on how I should go about learning this software. It's been a while I left school and I feel like a block head sometimes. No need to feel like a block head bro, it will take time but you would master it eventually. To start with, you have to download and install R, Tinn R and R studio. Download R here: https://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/ and R Studio here: https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download2/ You can download Tinn R (Just like a text pad for R) and search for tutorials on R online, I can help from there. Dont let this your good cgpa waste at all... with this gpa the easiest way to have gotten funding is to Write GRE, score high and then apply for masters in the USA and not applying without GRE
Anyway since you still want to apply for phd in the US ... then best to take GRE. If u can study hard for it and write it before the master program start that would be better. Send me a pm if you need help in paying for GRE. You have a good gpa . You should have mentioned the above back in sept and i would have sorted you out based on this gpa for sure Unfortunately, I would love to write but next year. 47,000 pounds is too much for me to ignore now (lol) but i would contact you anyways. femi321: There are many determined and talented, low-income students in Nigeria who only require financial resources and access to information to better their educational future. For the 11th year, the United States Embassy, Nigeria seeks to identify academically qualified and highly motivated, low-income students in Nigeria to join the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP).
OFP’s mission is to assist talented and determined, low-income students who are good candidates for financial assistance from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the financial resources to cover the up-front cost of obtaining admission.
OFP works closely with students through regularly scheduled meetings and seminars to assist them throughout the application process to secure admission and scholarships to attend colleges and universities in the United States. OFP finances the cost of the application process, including registration fees for required standardized examinations and provides free membership to the U.S. EducationUSA Advising Center for its participants. OFP expects a sincere commitment from the students to give their energy and time to the program so that they may achieve their dreams of study in the United States.
