Good day lovely people, please I would be going for my interview soon. The the duration for my Master's degree program is 36months. From what I have seen on this thread so far, everyone going for MSc seems to have a 24month duration. Please is my 36months MSc normally?

Sometimes I begin to wonder if the extra 12months added to the 24months is for internship, because I was admitted for MSc Electrical Engineering.

Please great people, do people get issued visas for 36months duration MSc.

Cc: Lagosismyhome, justwise, femi123, Walspring, Teewag, etc

This 36month issue has been giving me worries and I have mailed the school severally, but they keep referring me to their course catalog which is of little help

What school is this ?

Congrats on ur visa.but y d XXXX state university. Y hiding it? U no want make others benefit? This place is meant to give info that can help others, its more than a testimony ground.[/quote]

Don't mind them jare, we have talked about this XXXYYZZ and Bla..bla..bla thing and some of them are still doing it which is so annoying. i mean no body force them to share their transcript, we are all one big family trying to help each other and yet some individuals will come here sharing Bla..bla..bla and XXXYYZZ with the aim of giving back to the thread and i keep asking how can new comers/prospective student benefit from that? in my opinion it doesn't "make any sense" because you got all the details you need from this thread in achieving your dream goal and when is time to give back to the thread they start Speaking in tongues. Anyway, i rest my case and my Slogan still remains what is what doing is what doing WELL..

Shalom!

Yes some banks wont give PTA to one way but others do....so you have to check with some banks before you buy

But then again you need to make the calculation on what the difference in price between one way and return ticket ..that amount verus the PTA exchange rate verus black market rate . ... the difference might not be worth getting PTA

School website
The Thesis Master’s program consists of 24 semester credit hours of course work, a minimum of 6 semester credit hours of Master’s Thesis, and a final oral examination that includes an oral defense of the thesis.

Well only the Thesis option is clearly stated...as an international student except for exceptions you are required to do a minimum of 9 credit per semester which means in 3 semesters u can finish not 3 years... so really this should not be 36 months but if the school decides to make it 36 months on your i20 you have to go with that but it wont take 36 months to complete a 24 credit graduation requirement

There should be no problem with VO....U are not the one who issued the i20....just make sure your ds160 have what on the i20..... and also know the courses taken and what the graduation requirements are . ...yes i seen 36 months here in the past

@Lagosismyhome, walspring

I have gotten admission to study Masters in Computer science at National University, San Diego. I have filled my DS-160 and booked a date for my visa interview. But I haven't paid the SEVIS fee yet.

1. My sponsor is in the US and she will be helping me pay the SEVIS fee. Can she use a credit card for the payment?

2. Considering I applied to a private, non-profit university, what could by my weak areas during interview? Mock interview needed please.

Thanks.

The bold part... you are already part of a research team as a freshman; Awesome!

Vo: psychology? ( nodded his head) then why computer science at SAU ?
Me: ( I already knew he'll ask this) after my diploma from unizik , I proceeded to work at *** computer center where I was tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the computers are free from viruses and malware.. I've always been fascinated about computers right from a tender age.. so my experience at the Computer center further fueled my interest in studying computer science at SAU
Vo: what're you doing currently
Me: I work at ** computer center
Vo: that's cyber cafe?
Me: yes sir
Vo: have you traveled out
Me: no sir ( I was denied a b1b2 visa last year sha)
Vo : how many schools did you apply to
Me: 3, Oklahoma state university, southern Arkansas university and Arizona state university
Vo: then why SAU ?
Me: the core of my decision for choosing SAU is because I'll be part of an ongoing research that forcuses on cyber security under professor ..*** .. group .. I mean it's quite obvious about the current situation of our country Nigeria in terms of cyber security, so being part of this course will equip me with the expertise that'll enable me thwart cyber attack and ensure Nigeria is safe as far as cyber security is concerned

thanks y'all.. and I wish every fAll applicants success ...

I believe the young man saw everyone talking about research groups in their transcripts and decided to use that line too. He was just lucky. For the sake of others, don't say what you're not sure of, or lies that can be easily verified. The VO could have pushed him further with follow-up questions regarding that research and he'll crash.

This 36month issue has been giving me worries and I have mailed the school severally, but they keep referring me to their course catalog which is of little help

This is very normal. You can as well finish in 24 months or less. It depends on your academic plans. Your course catalog would show you what total credit hours you need to graduate. This would be most likely 36 credit hours. Now immigration law demands international students must register a minimum of 9 credit hour in a semester to qualify for full-time status. If you did that, you would finish in 4 semesters.

However, graduate assistant, teaching assistant or research assistant are allowed to register 6 credit hours per semester which will lead them to finish the course in 6 semesters (36 months). It is this extra allowance your school is giving you.

Under special plea, your school could even allow you register for 6 credit hours without being a graduate assistant. You can as well go for one-semester internship called co-op. I can give you a list of companies that can employ you under this plan. Lastly, you can register up to 15 credit hour in a semester and finish your course under 18 months if that is your wish. US education is quite flexible. you create your educational plan.

Oga before you say what you don't know ask questions... SAU offers undergraduate research on cyber security.. I took my time to go through their website.. smh , you think I formulated all I said.. who told you I wasn't ready to defend my question.. some people will just open mouth and talk anyhow ..

Is it possible to enter the US on the earliest date of entry stated on the I-20 and go to another state without any issues? I will already have my flight ticket booked to the school with me as evidence in case it is asked. Any objections to this please?

Dont let this your good cgpa waste at all... with this gpa the easiest way to have gotten funding is to Write GRE, score high and then apply for masters in the USA and not applying without GRE

Anyway since you still want to apply for phd in the US ... then best to take GRE. If u can study hard for it and write it before the master program start that would be better. Send me a pm if you need help in paying for GRE. You have a good gpa . You should have mentioned the above back in sept and i would have sorted you out based on this gpa for sure

Rich babe! good-hearted you!
