I'm surprise that we are still on this BC issue. We just like to hide behind one finger. The NPC BC is meant ONLY for children born on the shores of Nigeria. I went to the NPC office in one of the local Govt council and I was told by one of their ogas that the birth certificate is ONLY for children born on the shores of Nigeria they proposed to "help" me if I don't mind filling in Eti Osa as the place of birth. If you are in possession of an NPC birth certificate with Texas, Houston etc as the place of birth I will advice you to quickly destroy it because I'm 100% sure it is fake. In my quest to get an NPC BC, I was reliably told that even Local Govt offices are into issuance of fake certificates to desperate and unsuspecting applicants
@ desoul, you don't need NPC BC to get a Nigerian passport for your LO all you need is your own passport, the child's American passport and his American birth certificate.

you dont use foreign document to process nigeria passport, if you state that child was born abroad, you will need to present the american birth certificate for sighting and confirmation, will an american child born in nigeria process or get american passport with nigerian birth certificate? i guess you kw the answer, besides why will you say that NPC is only meant for children born in nigeria, NPC is responsible for registration of birth and death of nigeria citizens..@the bolded why will you need american passport to get nigeria passport? besides the items you mentioned are not all you need for LO naija passport as you claim..

if you are processing nigerian passport for your yankee LO, you need NPC birth certificate but the place of birth will be USA even in the nigeria passport, you will just have to produce the american birth certificate for sighting and confirmation that the child was actually born abroad. the place of birth in my babys nigerian passport is USA, cos thats where she was born
Great. Now it seems necessary to get the Nigerian BC for the Yankee child. Power of information.

The truth is, the National Population Commission is meant to register (keep a civil register) of all Nigerian citizens whether born in Nigeria or abroad. The Commission is also to register deaths and still births. The Commission derives its powers from the Constitution. The Commission's Department of Vital Registration actually carries out that function. I think further clarification on this issue can be sought from the National Population Commission.

Thanks. I checked their site but couldn't get the needed information.

Every mallam with his own kettle. I've said my own. I got Nigerian passports for my children and was never asked for a Nigerian birth certificate maybe some people that have gotten one for their LO can share their own experiences and tell if they were asked to present a Nigerian birth certificate or not.
@justwise you will do well if you can please help us to confirm who is entitle to a Nigerian birth certificate and who is not.

You have decided on what you want to do but don't misinform people. It is not necessary.

When I did naija passport for my child I was not asked for NPC. They used her US BC and registered her under foreign birth. That is all

Just because you disagree doesn't make another person's opinion a misinformation. I never pass an information with my comment rather I was taking one.

You said you got an int'l passport without NPC BC, fine. Desoul said he got one with correct information, fine. I am going with desoul on this one and that is not information/misinformation.

Please, we can disagree with ourselves opinion/position and not necessarily calling it a misinformation.

It is absolutely wrong to get a Nigerian birth certificate for a foreign born child. There is no need to sugar coat what is so glaringly wrong and pass it off as right because in Nigeria everything and anything goes.

A child born to US parents in Nigerian cannot go to US and request a birth certificate. The best he can do is request for CRBA (which can be used in lieu of a US birth certificate to issue his US passport). I repeat HE CAN NEVER GET A US BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

So also a child born to Nigerian parents will get registered with the Foreign Births Unit of Immigration department(FOR RECORDS PURPOSES) before a Nigerian passport is issued in Nigeria.

Infact, getting a Nigerian birth certificate for a foreign born child is immigration fraud and SFU can take up the matter. Ignorance is not an excuse

It depends on the circumstances.

Did you get it after Dropbox or after interview?

What section was marked?

Was it Lagos or Abuja

If it was after Dropbox then I guess you will need to schedule an interview and go and defend yourself.

Lagos this morning, Interview for my nanny...she went in alone cos I have a valid visa
Circled bit was something about "domestic worker hours of work and wages"
I have dropped off our contract agreement and letter of introduction at DHL.

Dunno if I should go ahead and book her tickets cos our proposed trip is close

Did you research domestic workers contracts in relations with what is obtainable in US? you know their rules differ from ours.

Anyways, it may be granted.... time frame now is what we dont know... but dont buy tickets till a visa has been granted!

You have said it all Nerf. A birth cert is issued in the country of birth. It can't be issued elsewhere. So simple.

About Visa on Arrival (VoA)
Nigeria Visa on Arrival is a class of short visit visa issued at the port of entry.
The VoA facility is available to frequently traveled High Net Worth Investors and Intending Visitors who may not be able to obtain visa at the Nigerian Missions/Embassies in their countries of residence due to the absence of a Nigerian mission in those countries or exigencies of urgent business travels.

I guess u are correct, because u can only have one birth certificate and it should be in the country where u were born,.Then they can duplicate it for u whenever u want more. My son was born in Holland(Amsterdam) and when i did Nig passport for him, they never ask me to produce his Nig birth certificate,.Rather they used his Holland birth certificate to issue him his Nig Passport. Even before i processed his Holland passport,My wife always use his Holland Birth certificate to apply for his visa and no Embassy has ever ask for his Nig BC before issuing him visa.

Hello Everyone. Its been a while, trust everyone is doing ok. Regarding the VOA process. I didn't pay for the immigration letter (it may be due to the fact that I'm Military). I went to the immigration office at MMIA and after a while I got someone there who got the letter for me which I sent to DW. Also we didn't pay $200 for any VOA. We dropped LO US passport with the immigration office at the airport and then went to process her Nigerian Passport, when that was ready, we took it to the Immigration office so they could sight it and then collected LO's US passport back.
I don't know If this was the conventional way of doing this but that was the approach I adopted to save cost.
Hope this helps someone out there.
