I bet most of you arguing blindly on this thread do not even know what post surgical sepsis is...even if you didnt, common sense ought to make you endeavour to Google it and learn about...apparently the woman got an infection from a prior surgery...anyone who knows anything about surgical operation knows that infection during surgery can be fatal and or at least life threatening....Let us use this opportunity to pray for those in the labour wards undergoing CS and every other individual undergoing surgery of any kind and ask for God's healing and miraculous deliverance...obviously the woman's time wasn't up...at the end of the day someone has to be blamed,in this case the doctor is being blamed.... 31 Likes |

Am not gonna blame a colleague for what he ought or ought not has done, the patient was DOA(dead on arrival) so no matter what the doctor do, she's still is going to die because the post surgical sepsis has already taken over her system and she's a light waiting to go out but I have a few analysis to clear the air on those arguing Wether the doctor is competent or not 1. A surgery done three days prior in a state specialist cannot be that worse even if the patient refuse to take any antibiotics since after the surgery (which is not possible because the patient's antibiotics must have been monitored by the nurses unless the patient was discharged immediately after surgery). 2. Taking orders from superiors is paramount and normal in a teaching and specialist hospitals but you can't be asking your consultant or senior colleagues for advice one hour later before giving paracetamol 600mg to a patient whose temp is off the chart, You gave cephalosporin good, you have antiamoebic good, then you stop, no anti pyretic given and you went to sit down until one hour later before giving pcm, totally wrong on that Conclusion: the op is probably a doctor but probably on his first week of house manship 31 Likes 2 Shares |

As a Nurse, I understand what the doc is saying. My early days when I started working in an FMC, It took me a bit of time to adjust my mindset well over issues like that. Psychology is a strong thing, it can control a person mindset. The Doc. tried his best, He should free his mind and relax his nerves. 9 Likes |

It's just a ghost, dont be too scared. Talk to the ghost and invite your spirit guide to help the woman cross the veil, that is the best thing you can do for her. If not, she might just be lurking around and haunting people. 2 Likes |

Who say make I open this post now o,talking about ghosts, while my quarters is just facing a morgue. Chai, na to on generator till day break o,coz I nor fit sleep inside darkness after reading this story! Lol! On a lighter note, op must be a fresh blood. Nothing wrong with informing your senior colleagues of a new case, and taking directives...... That was the right thing to do. Choice of antibiotics too were the standard. Just the anti pyretic that came too late. Could have been one of the first 3 things to start with on her at presentation. Lesson learnt, but u didn't kill her. Moreso, the 3days post op story is not likely to be true as we know patients and their relatives tell lots of lies just to save face and cover up the truth; common most times, and op will get to know this as he advances in practise. To those calling for the doctor's head, stop it! Dnt comment on what u know nothing of. In conclusion, the health sector in this country is begging for a complete restructuring.......things are not right. Most government owned hospitals in this country, including the supposedly big tertiary centres, are just mere consulting hospitals with little or no equipments. Empty buildings built by greedy politicians in a bid to siphon money, which are commissioned by people we look up to! I hope and pray we get it right soon. 23 Likes 2 Shares |

Ah, Air force1 just fall my hand, choi... just in case, hear dis. The young doctor didn't call a colleague but his seniors in that same hospital who were not busy dancing skelewu in the theater but attending to another patient. Note again it was a midnight thing. I'll be freaked out too but maybe I'll comport myself (after I faint and wake sha) and ask her why stalk me and if there's anything I could help her with since I don't know how to bind and cast. But why bind cast her off without giving her a chance to explain the stalking? ,she might save you some danger she might have on her way to the place dead people go na (not sure I know the name of the place). Seriously doc, take heart and try man up to question her next time. 9 Likes |

My take on a matter like this is that the act was put up by what you may refer to as ''familiar spirit''. It is not the actual spirit or ghost of the woman, for ''it is appointed once for man to die..''. However there are familiar spirits that follow people all their lives and are often trans-generational. The matter of familiar spirits is a separate discussion on its own. Now, as to whether this young doctor experienced a paranormal phenomenon, I think yes, he did. Such experiences are quite common, especially in environments where there is a lot of deaths. In one of the hospitals I worked in the UK, stories were rife about several ghosts- including a man certified dead, who got up, went to the bathroom, returned to his bed, event was witnessed by a nurse who was scared to death. In that same city, a big naval city in South West UK, the city council at a point had to hire ghostbusters because ghosts were apparently harassing military personnel in the naval base. Presumably there was a lot of action in the area during WWII and the whole phenomenon attributed to ghosts still hanging around. 4 Likes |

And just to add, consulting colleagues is not a sign of incompetence. Infact, in advanced centres, it will be inconceivable not to consult colleagues- junior, senior or contemporary, if you have a ''serious'' case. Many times you actually hold case conferences to decide the best course of action. Medical knowledge is so vast that now that no one person can claim to 'know it all'. Severe sepsis still carries a high mortality. Of course where facilities are available chances are better, but it is still a serious illness. I would have expected that lady to have gone to the ICU, placed on life support etc. 10 Likes |

This thread just makes me sad for doctors practicing in Nigeria. The average Nigerian knows little about how the health system (or even their own bodies) work. They believe, rather, in the superstitious, and do not bother to find out facts about anything. They rather just come to mudsling. After the detailed care the doctor gave, some people still have the effrontery to throw undeserved insults at the traumatized individual. Maybe they believe graduating from medical school equates to obtaining god-like powers. I do not defend incompetent and negligent doctors, but do a little fact-finding (just a little), and all that rubbish may be purged from your brains. Especially that useless wannabe, búllshit-chatting, ugly-áss mofo... Eediot. 12 Likes |

Airforce1:I think you are right but on a second thought it wasnt his fault entirely. He might have done his best but he relaxed his efforts based on the unprofessional advice of his senior,he was following his seniors leading. Thirdly ,the nation hospitals and mmedical services are all in a mess, most qualified doctors have left the coubtry in search of greener pastures and the ones left are majorly trainee doctors, also there arent enough up to date equipments .all these coupled together will most often render even the efforts of the most qualaified doctor useless 2 Likes |

Hey doc this is hallucination. You connected emotionally with the woman during treatment. If she is truly a ghost and your account of the incidence is correct, then she snoukd be thanking you. You did the right thing. From your narrative, you work in a teaching hospital. She is not a fecking ghost. U are just hallucinating 5 Likes 1 Share |

The dead expected him to do more spiritually to save her. Of cause, she has chance to save her, if he has being more spiritual in carrying out his medical duty. She knew that, the doctor had a very strong chance to save her. Because she was dead and alive so she was able to see how powerful the doctor is. She got vary angry that you have power to save her but you failed her. You truly, got it wrong doctor. Connect to heaven when carrying out your duty saves many lives than being only medical. You have chance to save five before some else saves two. Let leave the rest. 3 Likes |

My take on this event is that the Doctor had enough skills on the Job to save her but somehow could not use all the powers in him to save her from death. Remember she could only blame him after her elevation or transition to higher plain of knowledge and existence. At her dead state, she knows a million things on a single thing in this life. Experience taught me this. She was right. The Doctor should do more to save others in similar circumstances in future. 2 Likes |

The doctor was presented with a patient with two life threatening situation. The patient had infection from a previous operation and the infection has caused her temperature to be off the charts. He promptly treated her for the infection but forgot to treat her for the abnormally high temperature, and the woman died. He should have treated both problems simultaneously to get a chance of saving her. 9 Likes |

I am still wondering what the Doctor could have done better with the way she arrived because he gave her all the right antibiotics (I am not to sure of the pcm IV he administered though) ..She had gone fully septic and the only solution there was to slow down her heart beat significantly, thin up the blood ,induce coma and hook her up to a dialysis machine to aid the kidney while antibiotics are being administered and I would also administer intravenous charcoal (very radical rough approach but her case was bad ) 6 Likes 2 Shares |
