Those thieves in 9ja selling dead tyres as toks usually sell used 9ja tyres not imported used ones.
But there is a way you can check,all tyres have markers,so its this thread depth that determines if its legal or not.,

Nop that's the standard gauge for car tyres as stipulated bt EU law . There is no such mention as to age rather thread dept .

It's not about making fp guy. I would not be crazy to do such where there are dangote trucks! It was a free smooth road and you can see upto 5km ahead.

I was very sure of my car except I didn't expect that toks tyre would behave that way despite having a V rating. The other 8month old Michelin tyres at that time are still fine up till today.

What is a toks tyre? It is a used tyre that was removed from a Foreign used vehicle. (In better shape than one removed from a nigerian used vehicle )


1. DO not buy a winter branded Toks tyre

2. Ensure age of toks tyre is less than 4years

3. Do not over gauge tyre (35psi max!)

4. Do not drive at speeds Exceeding 200KM/HR

5. Buy Trusted brands like michelin and dunlop

I beg to disagree sir. Toks tyres that they bring here will fail you with the way they are shipped. I have seen toks tyres that failed with correct tyre pressure and not driven at speeds up to 120km/h sometimes you just gotta be lucky!

Ofcos I have and I ain't scared . That pic is from a guy that supplies loads of Nigerians .If I ha e the chance I will snap from Redcorn up in N17 yoy will see how they harvest and ship tyres . This dead tyres most of U guys buy as toks are actually Nigerian used sold by unscrupulous retailers . Buy from a trusted retailer amd use the thread depth marker as a guide . You will never get it wrong .

Yes I can tell U in all shape and form the squashing has no effect on the tyre . The QC they go fru is more regid than that . .

So there was this day I was headed to Lagos from Ilorin, Kwara State. I remembered there was this express road - Ilorin-Ogbomosho expressway. So me and my partner-in-crime, my twin brother decided to do something crazy about 1 year ago. My car which is a 2007 Mercedes Benz C280 4MATIC was just 9 months with me and delivers impressive performance, so we decided to give her the push of her life and see how she would fair.

We clocked to between 180-190km/h the first time, then we changed and I took the wheels. Lo and behold, this car surprised me with an impressive 209km/h and could have gone more if I had pushed further but then the sweet part of the road was finishing. The interesting thing was that this car was so damn stable and we could only feel little vibrations at over 200km/h.

We learnt quite a few things about car handling at the high speed. It was a costly fun though but it was fun. The car would normally consume about 15 litres of fuel from Lagos to Ibadan which is about 140-150km distance with A/c on and about 100km/h average speed. But on this day, we burnt that same amount of fuel just covering about 50km distance.

At the end of the whole frenzy, after another 1hr drive past oyo, we discovered the car started vibrating at speeds above 80km/h and kept flashing the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) caution. In summary, we got to the car checked the next day in Lagos and discovered the only tokunbo tyre I had on had failed and twisted, that was the reason for the vibration.

Please stay off tokunbo tyres at all cost!!!

A used tire with good threads could be a disaster in the making.

Why are you doing this?

The same due diligence that goes into ascertaining that a used tire is good is the same you will use on a new tire.

I bought four brand new Firestones in Nigeria last month. Good tires are there, they are not cheap but life is not cheap either.

We can't be doing the same things and expect different results.
