That's why a pistol is a primary weapon and need to be concealed at all time, its very wrong to display it especially when you are not on duty, its so unfortunate a senior officer like him will exhibit such height of negligence. Jungle justice is very bad but we should try at all cost to avoid circumstances that could arouse suspicion and fear especially among the civilian populace who have result in protecting themselves due to failure of our security agencies to swiftly respond in emergency situations.

I don't move one inch without my ID card. It's not possible. This should be a turning point in Africa interms of jungle justice. 1mDollars for anybody with useful information on the actual people who carried this out. Starting from the lousy woman who raised a false alarm. The Ghana army should use this to help set an example in Africa. This should be the last jungle justice or SHAME on the GHANA ARMY forever.

Something that community's police could have handled without hitches. They went and deploy military officers that are not familiar with the terrain. Simply put, applying a wrong antidote to the situation.

Heart breaking... This soldier is so humane that he died in a humble and somewhat foolish death. On the humane aspect; He value the lives of his countrymen that he couldn't fire his pistol to avoid killing or harming anyone, patriotism at its peak! On the side of foolishness: he could have fired several shots on the air to scare angry mobs. At the point where it's clear enough that he could loose his life, he could have shot one overzealous angry mob on the leg at least, to chase others away. Very pitiful!
His ID card should have saved him,if word of mouth wasn't sufficient...what a painful loss.

he didn't join the army through connection,that was his childhood dream to serve his country and people.His dad is a retired soldier....He was even about to promoted from a captain to a major,after he passed the exams they conducted for him..

Lessons must be learnt. His colleagues must ensure this. The landlords of the area must produce the culprits starting from the woman who invoked mob action on him. This is a very ignoble way to send off an hero.

If he went jogging without a pistol and still got accosted by a mob (oh by the way, mobs do not need to see a weapon before labeling you a thief), the question would have been "why didn't he take his weapon with him?". Sir, going from past experiences, if this had happened to a Nigerian Army personnel, a Captain for that matter, even the animals and inanimate objects in that community won't be spared, suffice to say.


That their Representative can even subtly threaten the government against reprisal attacks on the soldiers because of high-handedness during investigations speaks volumes of the fact that the Ghanaian are far less brutal than their Nigerian counterparts. Think Odi, think Zaki Biam.

Nsowa-Djan, has called on the Minister of Defence, Dominic
Nitiwul, and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Major General Obed
Akwa to call some soldiers deployed to Denkyira-Obuasi in
the Central Region to search for killers of Captain Maxwell A.
Mahama, to order.
Captain Mahama was lynched by irate youth of the
community on suspicion that he was an armed robber after a
group of residents from whom he asked for directions during
a Monday dawn jogging session spotted a pistol on him.
The community on Tuesday 30 May turned into a ghost town
as residents fled from soldiers sent there to investigate the
circumstances leading to the murder of their colleague.
Reports said the soldiers were allegedly arresting and beating
up residents.
Reacting to the development on 12Live on Class91.3FM, Mr
Nsowa-Djan appealed to the soldiers to operate within the
remit of the law. He was of the opinion that the situation
could escalate if the youth of the town strike back at the
soldiers.
Speaking to Jonas Ofori-Yeboah, the lawmaker, who
disclosed he was on his way to his constituency to ascertain
the facts for himself, said: “According to sources, over 30
people have been arrested including women but I can’t
confirm it. But just now, I’ve been told that a lame man has
been arrested and molested and when a situation of this
nature happens, it is also going to lead to another problem.
“What the community did is very bad and I condemn it, but
the way the military is also taking the issue I think it’s a
whole lot. The community I’m told is now virtually empty.
They have fled to the neighbouring communities and their
farms and other places. So I’m appealing to the military, the
Minister of Defence, and Chief of Defence Staff to call his
people to order because if the people are to retaliate, the
end result will be very bad.”
