Hello House Please i need your help, i am 22 years old, i graduated with second class upper in microbiology, After canada wasted the whole last year for me, a friend introduced Houston community college to me, so i am trying to get a degree in nursing, i noticed the deadline to apply for Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) (2years)has passed, so i can only apply for Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVD) (1year) 1.Please what are my chances of getting a visa 2. which other course can i do thats related to nursing Note I DONT HAVE ANY TEST OF ENGLISH |

rayplace50:First of all, thank God the application deadline passed before you got to know. Sometimes some setbacks are actually blessing in disguise. Applying to a community college is a red flag, your chances of getting a visa is 2 out of every 10, 0.2 in decimal and 20% in percentage, very slim right? You wont want to risk nor waste visa fee of $160 and sevis fee of $210 just like that.Same applies to your 1yr Licensed Vocational Nursing. Moreover you have a a first degree in microbiology with a 2:1, I Mean why limit yourself, you never know your limit or what you can do until you stretch yourself. You will have a lot of convincing to do, on why you are going for an associate degree which is lesser to your first degree and why community college.. Take your time to research for proper universities to apply too, you could even aim for mph or any related masters level course to microbiology. it doesn't have to necessary be B.Sc Nursing, what works for Taye might not work for kenny. Check for admission requirements from the schools you find and do standardized exam if they require it. My ultimate Advice for you is to take your time to read this gold mine thread from page 1 at least to have a good idea better than my summary above. If you have any other advice, come back here and ask. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Helkayklassic: It depends on which option your UG university uses. Personally, courier is always best as this ensures your transcript gets delivered in time and you could also track it while it's in transit. Postal mail I wouldn't use for something as sensitive as your transcript and time factor is another thing here. WES evaluation takes about 1 to 3 months, depending on how fast your schools prepare your transcript and respond to the verification request from WES. With postal mail (nipost + usps), you're pushing that to about 5 or 6 months. 2 Likes |

Sweeny: Nigeria is current operating a floating exchange rate policy. This means that the demand and supply of a foreign currency (dollar in this case) would determine the price of such foreign currency. The US embassy has absolutely nothing to do with the price a dollar would change for. All the US embassy does is to set its price in dollars and the current exchange rate would apply. You guys should decimate that erroneous notion that the official price of a dollar is #375, or #325, or #305 or whatever. Presently, there is no official price for a dollar in Nigeria as the exchange rate is floating. The CBN only made a special allowance for a concessionary rates which applies for PTA, Tuition abroad, Exports and some SMEs. This concessionary rate is what I believe nairalanders misconstrued as the 'official rate'. So, kindly disavow that notion. In the near future however, if government pumps more dollars into the economy, I believe it would dampen the shortage of dollars in the economy which is solely responsible for the high dollar price. If this is done, the price of dollar would come down and consequently the visa fee. Remember, the cost of visa fee is fixed in dollars meaning that fluctuation in the exchange rate is what is responsible for the change in cost of visa fee in Naira. Pumping more dollar into the economy is only a temporary fix, the long-run fix is to diversify the economy such that export would be on a large scale. By so doing, there would be a natural influx of foreign currencies (dollar inclusive) through trade which would eliminate the scarity of dollar thus reducing it's price as well as strengthening the Naira. But what do I know? I am no VO. I only used my little knowledge of Economics to analyze the whole thing and I hope you understand it. 5 Likes |
