Thousands were massacred in the North before they got to their ancestral home.
Mass killings and bombing of schools, hospitals, refugge camps, churches and markets happened.
People were buried in mass graves, an example is the mass killing of medical officers and poor civilians that came for treatment in a Hospital at Umuahia.
The school yards and churches became a dumping grave of the dead.
Hunger and starvations killed a large number of women and children. Adekunle gave orders to shoot whatever could move and walk.
Pregnant women were butchered,their belly split and foetus were dismembered.
Younger women were raped and prisoners of war were blind folded and shot
