Rob Holding has been playing English football knows the rigours of the English game, has had 30 games in the championship.

In addition he has had a whole season playing in the U23s getting ready to play the Arsenal way.

Onyekuru has had none of that coming from a club where he is the star man, with very little team discipline where he is concerned and little or no pressure.

He has a very steep learning curve when he gets to the EPL I hope it goes well.
I hope so too

Odey and Sikiru dropped. I hope all the Odey noise will subside for a while. Agbo dropped too

Muazzam made the team

One name that baffles me is Osimhen, he has not even been to camp and competed to justify inclusion.

He has played barely two games barely 10 minutes of football all season at a low level Wolfsburg that has just escaped relegation from the Bundesliga. He wasn't considered good enough for his team to start him or even play him over 45 minutes.

This can cause disaffection in the camp as thier is no justification beyond past glories. It has to be a level playing field. Even Isaac Success has better justification for selection than him.

There should be a clear an open modality for selection that is not the case here.

The league was still on in Egypt. I remember we talked about him on this page. There were reports in Egypt that he was contacted.

The absence of Ola Aina means we need back up for Elderson

Write me a paragraph about what you like about Ideye's contribution tactically. What does he bring to the table? I can equally make a case for Anthony Ujah. Ideye is not the kind of experience we need in the team.

komekn:
Huh

I do not dispute what you are saying 28 games and 6 goals is not great. However, he does not play for Nigeria as out an out striker. So as a goal tally it is not that bad.

However, when he does play he makes a good positive contribution.

Considering his club form at what we can describe as top clubs not the creme de La creme of Europe but top league clubs in Europe he has done well. I mean 43 league games and 23 goals for Olympiacos is far from easy. That's why he got his big money bags move to China.

I do feel we are too quick to write off some of our ageing starts too quickly. Gyan for Ghana is still cutting it to some degree. I feel a better mixture of young and old would be better.

I do suspect that our NFF officials are trying to make arrangements and will impress upon Rohr options that are not to our best interest.

Consider Defoe who was written off by England and the EPL has just signed a £130k a week deal with Bournemouth and is back playing for the 3 Lions. Defoe is 2 years older than Obafemi 6 years older than Ideye and 6 years older than Efe Ambrose.

I see players in completely dead leagues being considered when our old guard tried, tested and some who are at top clubs are being ignored.

If you are not cutting it in your club with very limited exceptions like KC at City. You can't be invited to the SE.

Osimhen has played possible 10 minutes of football for lowly struggling Wolfsburg in two games and he is in the SE. That's simply not fair and sends a wrong signal when there are players who are cutting it week in and out for thier clubs.

But the left back is not his natural position, Wikipedia has it that he's a left midfielder. Why is it so hard to find a natural left full back to at least challenge Echejiele.

Hahahaha, i chose to be a bystander in this argument. As you guys know already, I don't rate young players that highly. So I don't go mcuh into debates on issues concerning young players. A good number of them(most infact) end up not measuring up to expectations.

There are certain arguments about young players that I engage in. Not this type.

Talking about being a politician, that's funny to me.
I think people who have been long here enough already know my stand as per choice of players or players selection.

Me i no dey look face to tell anybody here how I feel about him or her. Forgiveness and Komekn know me for that. grin

This is exactly what a politician would say grin

Sure there's enough firepower but this young team needs stalwarts and battle honed football generals among them. Bone and steel, mental toughness, if you understand what I mean cos the day will come when they will be tested and they'd need more than youthfulness and skill to pull through.
