Yes, the reason for that is the savings account doesn't have references like the current account. (This applies in most banks) But if you have a current account, request they get an approval for the reference letter on your savings account because it's the same customer. But if you do not have a current account, tell them you can provide references on the account to allow them issue you the reference letter or open a current account, whichever is more convenient. Hope this helps. Adiahabasi: |

You just have to know your right and the reason behind any bank's decision, then you can take the appropriate steps. Perhaps because I worked in a bank for 8 years, so I know what is obtainable. I am just informing you, because they will try and bamboozle you, just ask to see the manager or the operations manager and let them understand you know what you are talking about. I got my reference letter from GTB on my savings account and I did not know any OGA! Also nobody is sticking out any neck, it's not a letter of guarantee, its just providing information about your account. Remember, there is a caveat at the end of the letter. KYC (Know your customer) is the key word here, since savings account do not meet the KYC level the bank is comfortable with, they will not issue the reference letter. Also do not use words like "Never" when you are not absolutely sure Remember, a bank is rendering service not the other way round.

dannio: Its always advisable to have one person transferring all the monies to you so that you can prepare one gift deed. You will need to get a gift deed from everyone who has paid money to your account except you have another explanation as to why they paid the said sum. 1 Like |

Adiahabasi: Tell them they are not serious, and the letter is very importance that you have people. Who got the pension letter address to CIC. Its Automatically generated so whats there problem and they charge for it. Thou they can give reference for savings cos its also automatically generated. Go to another branch. And tell them again it doesn't make sense to hinder a customers progress. 2 Likes |

ottawaboi: It means that if she doesn't want unnecessary inquisition about the source of funds, she should use account A as the account for CIC proof of funds. Her coporative should transfer her own coporative money account to account B which will be transferred to your own account C. Then you can send all the money to account A. Draft a gift deed from yourselve to her (although not compulsory as a LOE will suffice) |

edababa007: I just read a comment where this has been nipped in the bud. If your POF is complete and you still forward pension fund, it will be ignored. If your proof of fund is not complete and you use whatever percentage of your pension fund to support, you will get ADR (additional document requirement) asking you to provide documentary evidence to complete your POF. I am certain Accra VO will send you an email. For the guy asking if POF is different from Settlement fund - yes it is. POF is proof that you have this fund and you forward documentation to the VO, who will first review your POF document, confirm from your bank and express satisfaction that you have the fund. Settlement fund is after you have collected COPR and you have landed in Canada. It is the fund you actually have with you (either in cash or otherwise) at the airport. You will be asked to show funds you came with. This could be cash, which must be declared, investment certificate, TBills, Cashier cheque etc. - now you can add Pension fund certificate and inform the officer that this fund will be credited to you soon even if you don't have the fund in your account. In this situation, you can even open your Nigerian account and show them your bank balances and tell them you are transferring your funds immediately you open a Canadian account. In some cases, customs don't ask for settlement funds, maybe they are tired for the day. 1 Like |
