Odegbami blows hot Rohr has nothing to offer Eagles
By Gbolahan Dada-August 19, 2016

Former Super Eagles skipper, Chief Olusegun Odegbami, has kicked against the employment of German coach, Gernot Rohr, saying he is not competent to transform the fortunes of Nigerian football.

The ex-Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan winger, said Rohr has nothing to offer Eagles, adding that he is just using the Nigeria job to boost his coaching credentials.

Speaking about how NFF hired the German coach, Odegbami said, “Nigerians want the Super Eagles to return to winning ways. Winning is what unites them. It is an integral part of what made them the happiest people in the world a few years ago. Victories by their football teams cushion the psychological depression of failure in other sectors, if only temporarily.

“Nigerians have missed the buzz that comes with winning in the past two years. They want it back quickly. The NFF know it and have chosen the path of a foreign coach to rescue the situation. But this is obviously a very big gamble considering Nigeria’s past experiences with foreign coaches since Jo Bonfrere exited about a decade ago,” he said.

Odegbami stressed that the 2018 World Cup will provide the platform for the next big challenge. “For the NFF, it is a matter of ‘lose and sink’, or ‘succeed and survive’. Deep down they know it.

So, I can understand why it is important for them and for everyone else to be interested in who takes over the national team at this critical time after the last two crisis-laden experiences under Nigerian coaches, the late Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh.”

Odegbami argued that if Nigeria should hire a foreign coach, she should have employed the best in the world and not just a mere tactician from Germany.

“Let me state clearly that I have nothing against the idea of hiring the best foreign coaches for Africa’s national teams. But no foreign coach shall get an iota of my support unless he has the credentials, the experience and the pedigree that clearly dwarfs those of the best African locals available, period.

“For Nigeria to qualify for the 2018 World Cup is a huge mountain to climb, but we are all waiting, watching, praying and wishing Gernot Rohr well, despite any misgivings,” he said.

The former Director of the National Institute for Sports said Nigerian football “is suffering from colonial mentality”, as we value foreigners more than local coaches.

“The truth is bitter. But Europe, Asia and the America’s will never (at least not in this lifetime) give a Nigerian coach, no matter his resume, the opportunity to coach a big foreign club or national team, exactly what our administrators demand as prerequisite to confidently hire them to handle the senior national team.

“How will any Nigerian coach, therefore, ever be qualified to handle the national team? Where would they gain and gather the required experience, if not from Nigeria itself and probably a few African countries as in the case of Stephen Keshi?

“Is Daniel Amokachi’s sensational decision to handle a foreign fourth division club in the remote lesser league of Norway driven by the desire to fulfil this far-fetched requirement by our administrators?” he asked.

Pinnick hails Senate for passing NFF Bill
By Gbolahan Dada-May 31, 2017

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has praised the Senate of the Federal Republic for a marvelous job, after the Red Chamber passed the much –awaited NFF Bill following a third reading on Tuesday.

“Today will go down as one of the most remarkable in the history of the Nigeria Football Federation. I am very excited. With the passing of this Bill, we now await the very important assent of Mr. President.
Once Mr. President gives assent, I assure you the NFF can achieve so much.

“I am not only thinking of what the present NFF administration can do; I am thinking of what subsequent NFF Boards after our tenure will be able to do, as the Bill is futuristic as well.

For us, the passing of the NFF Bill means we can now make our programme even more robust and proceed apace with our vision of building a sustainable football culture for our dear country, through driving private sector involvement and investment,” Pinnick said on Tuesday evening.

The key highlights of the NFF Bill include legislations to ensure the entrenchment of the enabling environment for the development of football in Nigeria and to drive private sector participation and investment at all levels.

Fundamentally, the Bill has now domesticated the NFF Statutes, recognizing its sanctity, as approved by the NFF Congress and endorsed by FIFA as the supreme laws for governance of the functioning, organization, administration and operations of the Federation, as well as recognition of football by the Federal Government as a national asset entitled to special privileges and concessions to foster its growth at all levels.

The Bill further provides for special concessions and tax holidays by the Government to sponsors of football in Nigeria and has clear financial reporting provisions to further entrench transparency in the activities of the NFF, such as publishing of accounts annually.

These will set the NFF on a path of sustainable growth and ensure it operates within international best practices and as a business to strengthen the social and economic impact of football to the nation’s economy.

On Tuesday, on the floor of the Senate, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports and Youth Development, Senator Joseph Obinna Ogba, presented the report of his committee, which was followed by a clause-by-clause consideration of the Bill and a voice vote by the senators. “All these court cases against football do not augur well for our country.

It is important that we repeal the Act (2004) and enact the NFF Bill to sanitise football administration in this country,” Ogba said.

The former NFF Vice President went further: “It has become necessary to repeal the Extant Act.

This is because it requires a lot of amendments to bring it into agreement with FIFA –required international best practices. It is to give it the required boost.

“The Bill has no financial implication because it is only seeking for a change in the name of the football body in order to achieve greater and better results in the future. It seeks to ensure that only those who are actually involved in competitive football matches are members of the Federation and not just organizations and establishments as contained in the Extant Act.

“Also, the Bill makes provision for the professional development of football at all levels in accordance with international best practices and to enable the credible participation of our teams in international competitions. The committee strongly believes that through this piece of legislation, the objectives as expressed in the long title of the Bill and explanatory memorandum will be achieved.

In his contribution, Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki praised the committee for a great job.

“The message here is for us to bring Nigeria in line with best practices and best ways to administer football in the country.

This has been an embarrassment over the years, but with the passage of this Bill, the grey areas will be taken care of.”

The country’s football ruling body was founded as Nigeria Football Association in 1945. However, at its Annual General Assembly in Makurdi, Benue State on 24th July 2008, Congress approved the change of name to Nigeria Football Federation.

The Act of Parliament 2004 as the legal instrument for administering the game in Nigeria replaced the Decree 101 of 1992.

Why I dumped Nigeria for Germany – Iyoha
By Gbolahan Dada-August 1, 2016

Fortuna Dusseldorf of Germany player, Emmanuel Iyoha, has said that the political instability in the running of football in Nigeria made him to snub Nigeria and changed nationality to Germany.

The 18-year-old, who plays for German second division side, featured for Germany at the recently concluded European Under-19 tournament, making one appearance in the six-goal thriller against Netherlands, which they later won 5-4 on penalties.

Speaking to Bild on why he opted to play for Germany, the striker who made five appearances for Fortuna Dusseldorf last season revealed that instability and lack of organisational structure in Nigerian football played a big part in his decision making.

“I’m a real native of Dusseldorf as I was born here. Although my father is from Nigeria, my mother is a German but I feel German in every way. I presently play for the Under-19 and am happy because Germany is just right for me, Nigeria is a politically unstable country.

“It is unfortunate to see Nigerian football crumbling like a pack of cards and its leaders have been unstable in the running of the country’s football in the last two years, with two different factions claiming to be in charge of football affairs,” Iyoha said

They need to work harder.

Yes they are talents. But maybe their quality is not upto the level required.

I hope they come back stronger

The truth is that this was what we asked for. For them to be given a chance to rub shoulders with the big boys, this was almost like refresher courses for coaches. This was not a gift but something they earned, not only did Sikiru score that wonder goal, he leads the league in assists. This has surely made MFM better and in turn will make the league better.

I don't know where Omanbala got the erroneous idea that I'm a feminist and/or a lesbian, but I would like to state that there is no truth to either.

Firstly, I am no feminist. Nuff said

Secondly, anyone who has followed my posts on this thread would know that I love boys men, preferably the ones who look like Awaziem, Troost-Ekong or John Ogu, I will consider those who look like Iwobi, Kelechi or Ebuehi, I will NOT take a second glance at the likes of Musa, Kayode and Onyekuru grin....your bank statement is inconsequential in my decision, but your brain matter is highly regarded, once again, anyone who knows me here knows that I don't suffer fools

Once again, I hereby refute the claims of Omanbala and ask that you disregard such crazy notions.
