Exclusive: German, Belgian Clubs Approach Arsenal Over Loan Move For Kelechi Nwakali

According to information gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com , topflight clubs based in Germany and Belgium have contacted FA Cup winners Arsenal over a loan move for Nigeria U20 skipper Kelechi Nwakali.

He suited up for the last time in a MVV Maastricht shirt on Sunday when they lost 1-0 to Roda in the Dutch Playoffs Third round, Game 2.

Representatives of Nwakali will hold talks with the Arsenal hierarchy in June that will clarify his future with the club.

The Super Eagles coaches have frustrated the attacking midfielder in his bid to be granted a work permit that would enable him play in the English Premier League, as he has yet to make his debut for the senior national team.

Kelechi Nwakali is tied into a deal with the Gunners until the summer of 2021.

Six Facts About New Super Eagles Invitee Maroof Youssef

After handing debuts to Kayode Olanrewaju, Isaac Success and Tyronne Ebuehi, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has called up Zanalek player Maroof Youssef for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Uyo.

Here are some of the interesting facts about Yussuf presented by Completesportsnigeria.com's JOHNNY EDWARD:

1. Youssef has made 27 appearances and scored three goals for Zamalek in the Egyptian top flight this season. He has played 114 games and scored three goals since joining the club four years ago.

2. Youssef joined Zamalek for a fee of €200,000 after spending three years at another Egyptian club El Shorta. His market value has risen to €800,000 following his stellar performance in the Egyptian league.

3. He has won four trophies since joining Egyptian giants Zamalek in 2014: The Egyptian Premier League in 2014-15, Egypt Cup in 2015, 2016 and the Egyptian Super Cup in 2016.

4. The 24-year-old left-footed midfielder is in the squad as a back-up to Elderson Echiejile at left-back.

5. Yussuf never played for any team in the Nigerian Professional Football League before going to Egypt. He becomes the latest player in the current Super Eagles squad who never featured for an NPFL side: Ogenyi Onazi, Wilfred Ndidi, John Ogu, Mikel Agu, Victor Osimhen, Henry Onyekuru, Tyronne Ebuehi, Alex Iwobi, Chidozie Awaziem and Dele Alampasu are the others.

6. Yussuf can play comfortably in two different positions – left-back and central midfield.

Let me make it simple...MOST English players are not crafty, since technique has taken another meaning. They are too direct and simple, lacks invention and innovation. We call it police football.

From the little I saw of Yousef in some champions league games, he was pretty solid. I think I mentioned him on this thread awhile ago with his teammate Stanley Ohuawuchi who have been very good. I never really rated Stanley when he played for the John Obuh U17 but he's turning out to be a beast for Zamalek.

Congratulations to Yousef, however the only snag I find in his game is his inability to out run his opponent over a 10yards dash. He's not the quickest left back I've ever seen to put it mildly. Other aspects of his game is fairly solid. And yes, he delivers good corner kicks.

The last I saw Zamalek play, he delivered a corner kick which Ohuawuchi scored off from his first touch coming in as a sub.

If you asked this question with open-mindedness, then I will reply extensively. It is very obvious why you ask this question. Why can't you wait till 1900 hrs (7pm) Paris time (6pm in Nigeria) to find out what Rohr will do...? cheesy

Short Note: Thursday’s match will be the 17th clash between the two West African countries at senior level, with Nigeria having won nine of the previous 16 clashes. Togo won three while four matches were drawn.

The first match between the countries at senior level took place on October 6, 1956.

Albert Onyeanwuna scored the game’s only goal with Nigeria’s roster also including the likes of Dan Anyiam, Sam Ibiam, Asuquo Ekpe and Cyril Asoluka.

Paul ‘Wonder Boy’ Hamilton also scored a goal in each of two friendlies in Lagos in 1966.

Nigeria’s biggest win over Togo remains the 3-0 scoreline in a 1992 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Lagos in August 1990, but Nigerians will never forget the 5-2 hiding by the Hawks in a Wafu Cup match in Abidjan in December 1983.

NPFL: Saka Wins Maiden VAT Wonder Goal Award

Ayo Saka’s 39th minute goal for Rivers United against Enyimba FC has been voted the VAT Wonder Goal of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match-day 20.

Saka beat off a still challenge from Enyimba’s Ugochukwu Leonard to emerge with the popular votes cast by fans in the poll conducted on the NPFL twitter handle @lmcnpfl and the official website of the league, www.npfl.ng.

Ugochukwu beat Saka in the twitter polls, earning 47% of the votes while Saka had 38% and Afolabi Abdulwaheed picked 15%.

However, Saka who recently joined Rivers United from Sunshine Stars edged Ugochukwu by a cumulative vote of 89.5% after he picked up 51.5% of the votes cast by fans on the website with Ugochukwu winning 37.9% to end on a total of 84.9%. Abdulwaheed of Gombe United finished third with 25.6%.

In the match against Nasarawa United, Saka had perfectly controlled a pass from Zoumana Doumbia on the left flank and with his second touch of the ball, drove into the 18 yard box past two Nasarawa United defenders before unleashing a left hook from 12 yards to the roof of the net for the only goal of the fixture.

Voters favoured his effort ahead of the long range strike from over 35 yards by Ugochukwu against Remo Stars at the Shagamu Stadium.

Saka thus emerges the winner of the inaugural VAT Wonder Goal, an initiative of the League Management Company (LMC) to enhance club-community engagement and also support the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) mass campaign on tax education.

Saka will receive N150,000 from which he will donate 50% to a charity of his choice in Rivers State where his club is based.
The prize will be presented at the next home fixture of Rivers United after their continental engagement in Uganda this weekend.

Belgium Invasion – Theophilus Solomon To Lokeren, Ajagun To Kortrijk, Rueben Yem To Gent

As many as ten Nigerian players are expected to join teams in Belgium this summer ahead of the start of next season, Owngoalnigeria.com Daniel Martins understands.

Already some deals are as good as done barring any last minute change of plans, although only that of Dennis Bonaventure to Club Brugge has been announced officially.

Former Nigeria U-20 captain Abduljelil Ajagun is few details away from joining Kortrijk from Dutch side Roda JC, where he spent the season on loan from Greek giants Panathinaikos.

HNK Rijeka 20 year old Nigerian forward Theophilus Solomon has also agreed a deal in principle to join Lokeren from the Croatian side after a successful spell on loan to Istra. He scored 8 goals in the recently concluded Crotian league despite playing as a winger.

His deal will be announced when Rijeka and Lokeren agree on a swap deal which will see a player from Lokeren moving to the recently crown Croatian league champions while Solomon goes the opposite direction.

Already Gent have secured the services of promising Nigerian right back Rueben Yem from Golden Boot Soccer Academy (GBS) in Jos. He was signed alongside Tony Ikedi who was immediately loaned out to FK Haugesund of Norway.

Rueben will however fight for a shirt in the main team of Gent next season, as he has been pencilled down for pre season action where his performances will determine if he will get a chance with the main team or loaned out.

As many as seven players are also set for trials with various Belgium teams, mostly players from the Nigeria U-20 team that failed to qualify for the ongoing World Youth Championship, owing to their failure to make it to the African Youth Championship.

‘Moses can still win Africa Footballer of the Year Award’
By Gowon Akpodonor

Warns Eagles to be wary of ‘improved’ Bafana Bafana

Former Green Eagles winger, Adegoke Adelabu is optimistic that Super Eagles and Chelsea forward, Victor Moses can still be voted African Footballer of the Year despite seeing red in the Emirates FA Cup final against Arsenal at the weekend.

Chelsea went a man down in the second half after Moses was shown two yellow cards – the second for simulation. The Blues, thereafter, lost the game 2-1 to spark series of controversies across the world that the Nigerian cost Chelsea the game.

However, Adelabu, who played for IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan in his active days, told The Guardian in a telephone chat yesterday that Moses’ red card and Chelsea losing the FA Cup title to Arsenal should not be the yardstick in measuring his performances for the season.

“I am sure those who have the power to vote for the African Footballer of the Year will look at the role Moses played in Chelsea winning the English Premier League title. The red card in the FA Cup final might just deduct some points from him, but Moses can still make up for it by putting that disappointment behind as quickly as possible. He needs to realize that the FA Cup final is over and must focus on the Super Eagles assignment beginning with the AFCON qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.”

Meanwhile, Adelabu has advised the Super Eagles not to treat the visiting Bafana Bafana with kids’ gloves when they clash on June 10 in the 2019 AFCON qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

‘CSL Eagles still part of Rohr’s plans’
By Gbolahan Dada-May 31, 2017

The Nigeria Football Federation has assured players based in China they are still part of future plans.
That is despite none being included in coach Gernot Rohr’s squad to face South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on 10 Junein Uyo.

China-based strikers Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye both miss out while captain John Mikel Obi is injured.

“The season in China is still ongoing and it will be an hectic journey,” team spokesman Toyin Ibitoye told BBC Sport.

“Coach Rohr has decided to keep faith with the strikers he’s been working with in France for almost ten days now but those players in China are still part of the squad.”

Also missing is Victor Moses, fresh from helping Chelsea win the English Premier League title, with reports that he is injured although no official reason has been given.
“Moses has been excused by the coach,” Ibitoye explained.

Watford striker Isaac Success has been left out, while injury has ruled out Germany-based duo of Leon Balogun and Noah Serenren-Bazee.

In-form strikers Olanrewaju Kayode and Henry Onyekuru have been handed a chance to make their competitive debuts for Nigeria.

Onyekuru’s 22 goals in the Belgian top flight has lead to him being linked with a move to English club Arsenal.

While Kayode finished as top scorer in the Austrian league with 17 goals for Austria Vienna.

Three-time African champions Nigeria have failed to qualify for the last two editions of the tournament in 2015 and 2017.

Me too oooo.... but I didn't wanna be a spoil sport lipsrsealed

Sir Tbaba... I am not saying you are a spoil sport abeg oooo.... ejor biko...

Anyway... what were we expecting really? Na the U-20s naa... the only "generally official" means for verification of ages are in the players' international passports... what one sees there is what one must work with... sad sad
At U-17, we got the MRIs and it has been a blessing but at U-20s... MRI doesn't come into play thus anything goes....

This is why Zambian Football even after this Nice run at the ongoing U-20 WC won't challenge the west African powers for long... In the long run, It will always still be Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Mali.... and the North African juggernauts...

Anyway shaa... let them enjoy the remainder of the tournament... they still play some good football though wink

Rohr is such a very smart coach. He has tactfully sidelined Ighalo and Ideye while at the same time been preparing their replacements.

He is using 'keeping faith with strikers in France camp ' now. Next time he would use a phrase like 'you don't change a winning team'.
He has tactfully kept Ideye and Ighalo as standbys just in case the young ones fail to impress. Unlike previous coaches who will just dump some players and make some harsh comments about them.

Why would I not like this man?

Rohr is such a very smart coach. He has tactfully sidelined Ighalo and Ideye while at the same time been preparing there replacements.

The man is such a gem that is why I became so upset with Odegbami for the awful interview he granted when Rohr was hired.
We are so lucky to have him in our fold.
