Questions arising as Nigeria prepares to tackle Togo....

- Who would be in goal? Latest reports say Alampasu has been the more impressive of the two.... Although Ezenwa got the experience... who will play in goal? Against South Africa, we already know who will man the post.... wink But for today... who will it be? Ezenwa or Alampasu...

- Will Rohr proceed with the Troost-Chidozie Central defence partnership? or will the experience of Omeruo speak loudest?

Whatever Rohr starts with today as the central defence pairing may be what we see against South Africa....

- Who will play Right Back?? Ebuehi started the last game... but he is still getting used to African opposition. Will Rohr stick to him? or will it be Abdullahi or a makeshift RB in Omeruo again?

- Will it be The MikelAgu-Ndidi-Etebo midfield trio? grin
Or will it be something else? like Ndidi-Etebo-Alhassan

that's for Togo.... but I am thinking in the end our midfield three against South Africa will likely be Ndidi-Onazi-Etebo....? right? (very enticing indeed) wink

- Who flanks Iheanacho? With Etebo/Alhassan (could also be Iwobi) likely to play behind Nacho..... who will be the Right and left wing forward men?

We had Onyekuru on the left and Musa on the right against Corsica.... with Iwobi now in camp... will he start? Or will Rohr play him in the no.10 role like he did against Senegal?

- Iheanacho is super likely to start in order to get him in even better shape ahead of the South Africa game.... Yes that is true but would it do any harm to have Kayode, Austrian Bundesliga's MVP and Top scorer tested from the Start today with Nacho coming in later?

- Bonus : Who knows Rohr's birthday Month? grin grin grin

Rohr is such a very smart coach. He has tactfully sidelined Ighalo and Ideye while at the same time been preparing there replacements.

He is using 'keeping faith with strikers in France camp ' now. Next time he would use a phrase like 'you don't change a winning team'.
He has tactfully kept Ideye and Ighalo as standbys just in case the young ones fail to impress. Unlike previous coaches who will just dump some players and make some harshcomments about them.
Why would I not like this man?

Sincerely I feel he doesn't get the hype he deserves, the way he has strategically organized the team I have to say he surpassed my expectations... this man is creating a team with young stars (building a team for now and the future) reasons why osimehn keeps being called up, these Germans organize football on another level...personally I feel it's a blessing we have the man because the so called high profile coaches from Europe have flopped when it comes to African football ...ideye and co knew the hand writing on the wall when they moved to china, roar has prioritized European exposure for his players, because he has higher ambitions for the country than we do, he looks like one who doesn't leave any stone uncovered he an undervalued quality coach...and not to downgrade our coaches but these so called legends actually detrimental our progress by making stupid sentimental selections just because they are in their comfort zone, plus the NFF is totally crap ...yes coaching Nigeria would boost his CV especially if we achieve success but apart from the personal glory he actually really loves the challenge and acknowledges that we have wonderful talents...

Offence was definitely implied.... cheesy

If you asked this question with open-mindedness, then I will reply extensively. It is very obvious why you ask this question. Why can't you wait till 1900 hrs (7pm) Paris time (6pm in Nigeria) to find out what Rohr will do...? cheesy

my point is... When Kane was injured, England could have just made Vardy their first choice, but because he was out of form(his quality has never been in doubt), they introduced Defoe.

Quality is not really the final criteria. Iheanacho is definetly not lacking in that aspect but form...yeah he is lacking there, I can assume that you as a health related guy(I don't know where you did yours but back then in school I remember doing psychology a little) should know that Kayode will definetly be walking with a spring in his step right now and that sort of confidence can make you 10 times better.

Okay Sir... I knew it was for South Africa... just wanted to be doubly sure... smiley

That midfield three will surely start.

Akpeyi... well... we know he has to start.

The attack of Iwobi-Iheanacho-Onyekuru is very salivating but wow! Musa, Simon Moses and Kayode on the bench? What a bench! wink

Omeruo pairing Ekong is very likely for experience sake. But Happy Awaziem is growing into the team gradually.

Echiejile starts for sure.... but that right back... hmmm... Ebuehi or Abdullahi... I will go with Ebuehi too but mehn... that role is still open for debate too... Hopefully Ebuehi gets more game time today against Togo then we may just see him from the start against South Africa.

simple! It wouldn't do us any harm at all. Kayode has been in top top form,I mean there was a report we read here, one NFF guy said Onyekuru? Is as fast as Kayode, to tell you that Kayode is their yardstick for pace so again I can repeat here and now that he is faster than Iheanacho. I watched the match highlights against Corsica and although people are so quick to condemn Onyekuru, Iheanacho missed two clear chances, one his pace let him down, the other he couldn't hit the target, let me repeat that last sentence, IHEANACHO WITH THE BEST SHOT TO GOAL RATIO IN THE EPL COULDN'T HIT THE TARGET, that's evidence of lack of confidence, his penalty too showed it, look at his face after scoring the penalty he felt so releived. But Kayode is the man on song right now, I remember when Costa was messing up, Spain invited Alcacer immediately and he started their games, football is all about form not quality

What are you saying? undecided

Nacho's chances against Corsica were not obvious chances. Against Senegal two were... but against Corsica?? why trying so hard to make Nacho the fall guy? undecided

Really this is becoming too much.

And Nacho has never missed a penalty for club and country. That is bad-ass confidence from set-pieces. All this talk just to discredit Nacho's form and class.... he set up two good chances for his team mates which were wasted against Corsica... and then he had a close shot saved and also had a ball hit high to him which he found difficult to get a hold of and with the keeper already off his lines...

Why are you doing this? you keep doing this... ignoring factual happenings as they happened just to make Nacho look bad.

Na wa oooo

You haven't seen me discuss things from a psychological point of view on our Eagles threads before? undecided

Must I always reel out what my profile is? I guess almost everyone on this thread should know what I do by now right..... psychology definitely falls in line with what I do.... and you have asked me this before and we have discussed things before bordering on the lines and areas of psychology as applied to sports/football so why ask me again or making assumptions as to whether I am schooled in psychology? undecided

I would not otherwise comment, beyond this is not news for Africans.

And yes age cheating does pay particularly when you can never be caught.

And for any African taking a mocking swipe at Zambia is like the pot calling the kettle black. Let those in glass houses not throw stones.

LEROY 4 - 2 NIGERIA!!! Super Eagles Report Card Against Teams Coach By The Veteran Frenchman

The super Eagles will come up against old
foe Claude Leroy when they clash with the
Hawks of Togo in an international friendly
match in Paris, France today (Thursday).
For the umpteenth time, Leroy who is a
veteran of African football, will lead a
different team to confront Nigeria.

He has won four, lost two and drew one, out
of the seven matches he has featured in as
the coach of Nigeria's opponents.
Ahead of the highly anticipated internationa
friendly
match, Completesportsnigeria.com's JAMES
AGBEREBI highlights the past encounters
between Nigeria and teams managed by
Leroy.

Cameroon 1-1 Nigeria (1988 AFCON : Group
Stage)
Claude Leroy's first encounter against Nigeria
was in the group stage of the 1988 Africa
Cup of Nations in Morocco with Cameroon
which ended 1-1.
The late Sam Okwaraji gave Nigeria the lead
in the second minute before the legendary
Roger Milla equalised for Cameroon in the
21st minute.
Cameroon 1-0 Nigeria (1988 AFCON: Final)
After their stalemate in the group stage,
Nigeria and Cameroon met again in the final.
This time, Leroy led Cameroon to a 1-0 win
following Emmanuel Kunde's 55th minute
penalty which helped them clinch their
second AFCON title.

Nigeria 2-1 Senegal (1992 AFCON: Group
Stage)
Leroy left the Cameroonian job and was
appointed Senegal's new coach ahead of the
1992 AFCON which they hosted.
Senegal's first game as hosts was against
Nigeria, but Leroy's tactical masterplan could
not save them from losing 2-1.
Senegal however, got to the quarter-finals
where they lost 2-1 to Cameroon, while
Nigeria finished third.

Ghana 4-1 Nigeria (Friendly: 2007)
Ghana appointed Leroy as their new coach as
they prepared to host the 2008 AFCON.
As part of preparation for the tournament,
Ghana took on Nigeria in a friendly game in
London and won 4-1.

Ghana 2-1 Nigeria (2008 AFCON: Q/Final)
At the 2008 AFCON, Leroy led Ghana to the
quarter-finals where they met Nigeria.
Despite losing John Mensah to a second half
red card, Ghana went on to win 2-1.

Nigeria 2-3 Congo Brazzaville (2015 AFCON
Qualifier, 1st Leg, Group Stage)
Leroy continued his dominance over Nigeria
as he led Congo to a 3-2 win in Calabar on
matchday-one of the 2015 Africa Cup of
Nations qualifiers.
It was the first time ever Leroy led a team
to win on Nigerian soil.

Congo Brazzaville 0-2 Nigeria (2015 AFCON
Qualifier, 2nd Leg, Group Stage)
Nigeria got their revenge against Leroy's
Congo Brazzaville as they beat them 2-0 in
Pointe Noire in the reverse fixture of the 2015
AFCON qualifier.
Unfortunately, Congo qualified along with
South Africa at the expense of Nigeria for the
2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/leroy-4-2-nigeria-super-eagles-report-card-teams-coached-veteran-frenchman/

I don't think Kelechi is that better than Kayode Olarenwaju who have been the highest scoring Nigerian player in Europe over the last 2 seasons.
That is not a record to be waved aside.

I know the question about the strength of the league he plays in will be pointed at, but when you consider that most goals Kelechi have scored in the Epl have been close range tap ins, one can argue that Kayode can score those goals all things being equal.
Don't throw Kayode under the bus. He's better than that.

That does not mean we should lose confidence in our players' abilities.

We will miss Victor Moses. Yes. But we equally have other players who are capable of doing the job. That is my point.

If you read my earlier discussions with Icon79 you'll know I have already warned against complacency in that game.
