In the 1960's, a young banker, had a house in Apapa G.R.A Lagos. His neighbour then was a young Igbo architect. The architect fled in the wake of the of the upheaval of the civil war and relocated to the Eastern Nigeria enclave of the ill-fated Republic of Biafra. When the war ended in 1970, the architect returned to Lagos and the banker not only returned the house to the owner, he had kept all the proceeds of the rent for him in the bank. That young banker is our most respected elder, Otunba Olasubomi Balogun, the founder of the First City Monument Bank, FCMB, and the architect is our elder statesman, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, former Vice President of the Republic of Nigeria. While Otunba Balogun did that, like other Yoruba in other parts of the West, we know what happened to abandoned properties in other parts of the Federation.

Why the evil remembrance and not healing the old wounds. The war is over and the people are opening the old wounds.

The Genesis of E-wars between Yoruba and Igbo started after Chinua Achebe book there was a country and no thanks to him in his grave.

I don't usually comment on tribalistic threads, but I would be foolish if I pretend not to see the hate from all tribes.
Let's look for what unites us and pursue it. Let' s let go of the bitterness of years past.
I or my children may need a Yoruba, Hausa, efik, Fulani, Nupe, ijaw, berom, kanuri, igala, tiv, idoma, etc man's help tomorrow. I will also not deny anyone help based on tribe. The world has moved on beyond our petty bickering. Let's join hands to make Nigeria great again.
Nigeria will be great again.

This is really nice bro. Well said.
Thanks for saying it how it should be.. Every single Thread on Nairaland is burning up with tribal wars these days. It's rare that you will read 10 posts and not encounter bigotry from a poster. You'll think with the kinda words they utter on this forum, they'll be slapping every single person of the opposing tribe. But No, these kids come to a faceless forum to air their Jamb and sexual frustrations. And it's even alarming that some of these posters are "adults". Adults Arguing their lives away with kids who are yet to begin theirs.

Well, I for one do hope this whole tribal shenanigan will end on Nairaland.
Cheers!
Brother, thanks for the support. I think these guys are misrepresent us. We have our differences but they are blowing it all out of proportions. If those who feel otherwise don't speak they will continue to gain ground and corrupt the rest. Soon their distorted perception of reality will become our perceptions too. Silence means consent, they say. We need to express our stance.

U WANT THE WORLD TO BELIEVE THAT IT WAS ONLY HAUSA, I THINK NOT.

What evidence and source can you use to back up this useless claim.

After the civil war, the yorubas are the only tribe that return your properties while others took possession of it.

Paul C. Nwabuikwu, Special Adviser to the former Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has taken to his Facebook wall to appreciate an unknown Yorubaman who at a great risk to his life hid his father from the mob searching for Igbos in Kano, in 1966.

See what he wrote:

TRIBUTE TO THE UNKNOWN YORUBA MAN

At great risk to his life, a Yoruba neighbor on Sanyaolu street, Sabon Gari, Kano, hid my father from the mob searching for Igbos in 1966.

I still don't know your name, sir, but my prayer is that God will bless you and your descendants today and always.

Your sacrifice is one of the reasons why Nigeria, in spite of many disappointments, continues to retain some meaning for me.

Yoruba people are generally good people. Its only here on Nairaland that I see e-wars making it appear as if they have issues with Igbos. The management of this site is unfortunately failing to stop that notion.

yorubas are the most welcoming people in our clime. You live with them, you get rich. You stay away, you become poor. You identify with them, you achieve your goals, you dissociate, you get stranded. Only in Yorubaland another tribe will contest election and they will support him regardless of tribe and background and he will win. I can boldly say yorubas are the real Jewish tribe living amongst us. They can sacrifice anything to save Nigeria, including their lives. Obj put an end to the fierce civil way yet, the most abused amongst those he saved. When Kingibe ran away after June 12 elections, only abiola stayed and sacrificed his life for the democracy we enjoy today. Every home was deserted in lagos that time, other tribes ran away. That's the only time the unity of our great nation was put to test. Only the Yorubas stayed back in lagos then yet, some people still call them cowards. Whereas, only cowards would run away in the face of war or imminent war

Have you read this case The Military Governor of Lagos State v Chief Odemegwu Emeka Ojukwu and Anor NWLR (1986) Pt 18.
Ojukwu was given his father's property and guess who was the lawyer that represented him, none other than
Chief Frederick Rotimi Alade Williams SAN, QC also known as Timi the Law right up to the Supreme Court.

Did you see the year of the law report? I doubt if you were born by then.

Satan you are a liar, you will never win, you have never won, you are defeated!!!

Don't let Ojukwu's spirit and his father's, curse you from the grave.

While I commend the unknown Yoruba man. I wish to state that this is an Isolated case that can be found in every tribe, even within the Hausa mobs'. On a wider scale and with far reaching national effect; a Yoruba man by name Chief Obafemi Awolowo of blessed memory as finance minister, supervised the intended pauperizing of the Igbo nation immediately after the civil war. He operated a policy that ensured that every Igbo person that went to the bank after the war, with valid documents to withdraw cash from their accounts to start life anew; cannot get any amount above £20.00 (Twenty Pounds) irrespective of having thousands or millions of pounds in such bank accounts.

Antoeni:
I like d speech of d new Ohaneze Ndigbo President. Pls read objectively.
In my own opinion, d enemy of Ndigbo is Ndigbo itself. I remember a time in this country when all d 6 ministers in Jonathan's kitchen cabinet were all Igbo's. Ayim Pius Ayim was SGF, Ngozi Okonjo Iwealla was in charge finance, Emeka Wogu was in Labour and productivity, Berth Nnaji was in Power and Energy, Dieziani Madueke was d powerful minister for oil. The 6 of them outside d Federal Executive Council would meet and decide what and what not to be discussed at d larger FEC. Whatever they decided would eventually be d position of government. In 6 years, this was d situation. Okiro and Onovo had d police under their control. Ihejerika and later Minimah controlled d Army. These powerful Igbo's could do and undo. Nigeria was in their pockets.
Rather than care about d poor Igbo chaps scattered all over d country, they were busy diverting billions of naira into their accounts at home and abroad. D 2nd Niger Bridge, they didn't do. They shared d money. The Lagos/Calabar rail lines passing through 9 States, 3 of them in d SE, they were not bothered. They refused to pay d Chinese d Counter part fund. They shared d money. Enugu/Onitsha, Aba/PH and other roads of economic importance to their fellow Igbo's, they abandoned.
Who is to blame? Who is marginalising d Igbo's?
You had your chance, you bungled it. There was only 1 Yoruba minister worth mentioning at d time, Akinwunmi Adesina. He was in Agric. His budget was less than 1% while Emeka Wogu in Labor had over 10% for his ministry, Ayim had unlimited access to d treasury for d benefit of himself and family members. The poor Igbo guys meant nothing to him. If an Igbo becomes President tomorrow after Jonathan, will there be any difference? The Igbo man will marginalise his fellow Igbo people.
