uzzyfire: looolll I guess been d 3rd largest movie industry in d world is not a standard mumu
don't worry it kenyawood or k24 that has a standard
No one mocks our movies because we don't create low quality stuff
The First Grader - won NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture
Even when they wanted to depict life in Kano, Nigeria, they had to shoot it in Kenya The Constant Gardener's plot was vaguely based on a real-life case in Kano, Nigeria where unethical, crook medical experimentation is rife. Nigeria was unthinkable as a place for shooting sensible movies
The film won the award for Best Film at the London Critics Circle Film Awards, British Independent Film Awards, the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards, and Evening Standard British Film Awards. You should be thankful
The movie Something Necessary was screened at Toronto International Film Festival and the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
Nairobi Half Life won the most awards at Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards 2014 and we have many more world class movies that have won numerous awards.
We even make World Class Sci-Fi movies like Pumzi that won the Award of the City of Venice in 2010. I doubt you have reached that stage yet with your Nollytimber bur is cool
Take your time to watch Africa's best Sci - Fi movie Pumzi directed by Wanuri Kahiu. Its true sci-fi not naija juju
uzzyfire: so why shud I base my theory on just one person that is u. so if u dont imitate Nigeria accent ,does that mean that nobody else does
billive me wen I tell u that there millions of people that imitate Nigerians just like d way a lot of people imitate Americans
I guess its becos we exported our culture through our music and movies
No, people imitate nigerian accent when trying to troll. That is when trying to not make sense but still talk. Maybe west africans imitate naija accent but not east africans
Joonana: What makes you think so .. what are your reasons ?
Without going into details, landing in Nairobi alone is enough for somebody who has landed in Accra before to come to a conclusion. But that doesn't mean the whole of Kenya is better than Ghana and vice versa.
Indians do have some business ventures. They are descendants of the Indian lower caste that were brought to work on the railway and afterwards, the colonial government allowed them to start small businesses which at the beginning were just simple Kiosks selling basic stuff.
The colonial government treated them as second class citizens (the Arabs were treated as the third class and the Africans as the fourth class, which referred to privilege like, Africans were not allowed in the city unless with a pass for a specific purpose) Indians had a designated residential area too, and most still remain there, hence the perception of dorminance in parklands estates by people like random number. They also had shops in Nairobi downtown (where Africans streets like river road were located), most of whose leases have ended and ownership shifted to mostly Kikuyu business men.
Europeans were given Karen. Karen land ownership is now mostly African. The biggest land owner there is the Catholic Church of Kenya.
That takes care of the two races.
Africans as previously stated were not allowed in the city. Those that had passes had "special", lower grade streets provided for them. They were also restricted to menial jobs. Africans got into the city after independence in 1963. By that time, the Indian investments (they actively participated in the struggle for independence and used their advantage to avail resources that were helpful in the fight.)
One of the first things the African government did when it came to power was to build houses in the city for Africans, especially government workers. So it built Buru Buru, Umoja, Jericho, Uhuru etc (mostly East lands Estates) That is why you'll find most Kenyan Africans in those areas.
With time, as Africans finally got into business and took over government, private estates and houses started coming up in all areas on Nairobi. Places like where Naijalander leaves are in East lands privately developed flats. There are many of those in East lands. The flats are owned by Africans. So Naijalander and random number were paying rent to a kenyan African and come here to say we are dominated by foreigners.
I'd say the richest group of people in Kenya are Kikuyus. They bought most of the land from white settlers at independence and used them to take loans and estsblished big businesses. They control the vegetable export, hospitality industry, the government etc.
Somalis are trying too. They are just as hardworking. Their family structures makes financial support for serious business ventures easily available. They will be found mostly in Eastleigh, where the British put them after they petitioned the colonial government to be graded as Indians. It's a mixed estate with other Kenyan Africans making the majority.
nice write up and very unbiased, so , who now controls Westland (where most of recent development lies, developments like hotels, estates, towers, supper markets, cinemas ...),parkland,ngara,spring valley, parts of lower kabete, and even some parts of south c, i am asking this cause most of the people that controls businesses in these areas are Indians ,Arab and Somalis(south c and Eastleigh) , I am not against multiculturalism I just want Kenyans to shine their eyes and see what's going on,multiculturalism shouldn't be mistaking as development rather should be treated as an aspect of recolonization....
Joonana: On those areas Kenya is ahead of Ghana .. can you butress that with some relevant content?
I'm tired man. Go through this thread and see for yourself. You didn't give us any 'relevant content' when you said Ghana is more developed than Kenya anyway yet that's a more general and vague statement.
uzzyfire: chai , see wat Ghana is saying to nigeria . our politicians have really damaged Nigeria top d extent that Ghana is now saying "coming down to ur level" chai
This dude doesn't do anything on this thread other than 'being shocked' on how other African countries dare compare themselves on the supposed 'giant of Africa' that is Nigeria and throw around irrelevant lols.

tell him to come to Kenya na aseme ashante ..or its asante
The Tanzanian entertainment industry is not even comparable to kenya's. And its true, almost all Tanzanian music of good quality is produced either in kenya or S.A. And Nigerians as well produce a lot of their music in S.A due to their poor aesthetic appeal back home.
No, people imitate nigerian accent when trying to troll. That is when trying to not make sense but still talk. Maybe west africans imitate naija accent but not east africans
sorry guy , maybe the southern Africans do imitate Nigerian accent but not West Africans I've been to Senegal , Gambia ,Liberia and Sierra Leone and I can Identify each one of them from a Nigerian When they speak
Just30: There's A University CALL University Of Ghana You are the one guy who doesn't have a brain on this entire forum So I don't expect you to read and understand because you don't have that thing that can process what you read
This sounds mean but I'm sorry I have to agree - though forgiveness follows close.
Nigerians, instead of wasting time making backward Juju movies, make Sci-Fi ones like this Kenyan one. Its awesome and involves the brain rather than lazy @ss witchcraft
Your artistes have to fly (or swim) south. No wonder you guys are so pained by S.A because they literally feed you. Its like you're nothing without them
WHY MANY NIGERIAN ARTISTES SHOOT THEIR MUSIC VIDEOS IN SOUTH-AFRICA. South Africa is not just another African country; she is the most industrialized nation on the continent. South Africa’s industrialization did not start at the end of Apartheid; rather Apartheid was one of the numerous tools used to fuel that countries infrastructural growth. Cheap black labour was effectively utilized in the development of the rainbow nation. The white settlers of South Africa, in conjunction with their ancestral European nations did not relent in building relevant infrastructures inside their African settlement especially during Apartheid’s peak periods.
South Africa is better than Nigeria, not necessarily because she has white settlers and constant electricity (though she does) but because that country has a different spirit from Nigeria. South Africa like Nigeria has majority of her citizens (blacks) living in poverty and to top that, the rainbow nation has the highest crime rate and HIV rate in the world. But the South African ‘spirit’ has given her people the wisdom to propagate and promote only the good sides of their nation.
The South African government and her people never miss any opportunity to tell the world that their nation is the best place in the world, in spite of their numerous challenges. As for Nigeria; corrupt government politicians are the ones telling the world how good Nigeria is. While those in ‘opposition’ are always on hand to counter the government’s position and even add ‘jara’ to their interpretation of deplorable challenges in Nigeria just to buttress their point.
But this article is not about Nigeria’s woes or politics, IT’S ABOUT MUSIC, so let’s loosen up a bit.
I bet most fans and viewers of recent Nigerian music videos have noticed a seemingly multi-racial identity that several Nigerian music videos have now acquired. There seems to be a trend of our local artistes featuring multiracial casts or extras on their music videos, especially females.
Most of these music videos are shot in no other place than South Africa. It’s now common place to see a Nigerian music video set in exotic or rundown South African locations, the artiste cruising a right-hand drive car with white or mullato women cascading the scene here and there. Nigerian artistes like Faze, Naeto C and P-square pioneered this rush to shoot music videos in SA. Before long, the Mo’Hits crew followed suit and now the likes of Flavour, KCEE and Bracket are addicted to this concept. But can we really blame them? Of course not.
The truth, which I eventually discovered, is that it makes more economic sense to shoot a music video in SA. Yes, we have Nigerian music video directors like Clarence Peters, Patrick Ellis and Aje that are doing great things on Nigerian locations but they don’t come in cheap. I don’t know exactly how much top-rated Nigerian directors charge to do music videos but I heard it’s in the millions. So, again, why South Africa?
Okay, here’s a gist I got from some of my industry friends based in South Africa; you all know about GODFATHER production? Most times we see their credits on many South African made-Nigerian music videos. The owner of Godfather productions is a Nigerian married to a South African lady and word has it that he does not even know what a camera looks like, let alone handle it. And so, how does a Godfather production shoot Nigerian music videos? South Africa is home to many world class film institutions that train movie makers and directors from all over the world, including Nigeria. Our very own Clarence A Peters also trained in one of such institutions.
This is how it goes; a Nigerian artiste...say FLAVOUR decides to shoot a music video in South Africa and informs Godfather productions. The folks at Godfather contact some final year students in one of those SA film institute’s, inviting them to come use the production of a certain Naija music video as their project. These students, eager to impress their institutions and come out with good grades rush to embark on such music videos. The people at Godfather’s production after selecting the ‘lucky student(s)’ now decide to pay them a stipend, most times less than $1,000 (N150k) and these SA film students become over-joyed because they are somewhat being paid for doing their homework .
When it’s production time, it gets even easier; shooting a music video in SA is as easy as getting a permit and heading to your location anywhere in the city. There are no area boys or ‘omo onile’s’ to settle before shooting your stuff, and for the sexy multi-racial female models? South African women are more liberal and fun loving, most of them love appearing on music videos just for fun. With the popularity Nigerian music now enjoys in South Africa, these ladies sometimes struggle to feature on popular Naija artistes’ music videos.
So, that pretty White or Mullato lady you see on some Nigerian music videos are just having a good time, at the end of shoot they are rewarded with a nice meal, lots of alcohol and taxi fare, full stop. This is in sharp contrast to engaging Nigerian video vixens, where the pretty ones demand higher fees and the ‘accidental’ mixed raced ones amongst them even make higher and ridiculous demands.
When next you are watching that Nigerian music video shot in South Africa, please just enjoy the music and don’t blame that Nigerian artiste for not shooting in Nigeria. It has nothing to do with status or not wanting a black Nigerian cast; it has everything to do with economics of scale.
The only country that escaped SA's claws in Africa is Kenya. Even South Africans know that. Those guys talking of Nigeria colonizing Africa should instead worry about being colonized by SA first.

Thats for the brilliance of Kenyans. Nigeria is a mini colony of South Africa.

I think we need to stop responding to this fool. White's, Indians, Arabs and anyone else who is not a black Kenyan runs Kenya. That'll make him happy and stop trolling I think.

why should we worry about south african ?and how is SA colonizing us
quality of life or call it human index development. kenya is doing well when it come to tourism sector but might not be doing enough when it comes to citizens welfare. ghana too is not a good example though
vaxx: why should we worry about south african ?and how is SA colonizing us
Are you Nigerian? Well they're producing your best music videos and from this thread it seems like videos and movies are your biggest bragging rights. Soon they'll start producing your best movies.

am a ghania likewise a nigeria. It happens that my love for ghana as a nation is great. I own dual citizenship. Ok you mean south africa producing nigeria movie is what you call colonization. Am not intending to argue with you against nigeria. It will have been cool if it is ghana.
anyway for education purpose. i dont see any whim here. south africa producing nigeria music is not a whim idea. it is business. south africa currently can give what nigeria want. kenya or ghana may take that position tomrrow.
Most of bollyhood movies are produce by usa company likewise chinese.
Just30: don't get tire He's just a young Nigerian who hopes to see his country do far better
Sure.......but when he keeps spewing stupidity like that lol. He gets mad when anyone dares challenges Nigeria. He believes Nigeria is so great and the bad part of it he acts like everyone should know that and gets offended when 'you don't know that'. lol
Nigerians don't travel, except when they're running away from trouble.
The fact is we can't differentiate the accent of all of East Africa, same way you can't differentiate Nigerian and Ghanian accent or Yoruba and lgbo or warri accent.
