This is patently untrue egbon...
Grid-tie/Hybrid inverters can be used with or without back feeding to grid. It is not the only reason why most folks purchase them.

You grid-tie when most of your loads are consumed during the day. The PV inverter converts DC to AC which is then consumed immediately.
Later at night, your stand alone inverter inverts DC from the batteries to AC to feed night time loads.

The point i'm trying to make is if one has a large PV array, it doesn't make sense to also build a large battery bank.
Unless such an individual's night time loads are huge.

Gentelmen

Please note that Grid Tie is illegal in Nigeria for both legal and technical reasons. Unless the rules for net metering and micorgrids are published and implemented wrong use of grid tie inverter can kill somebody !

So guys, I finally did it.

Remember my Fangpusun solar CC. I have been able to extract data from it using emoncms. Thanks to bigbrovar & pranil for mentioning it. I was able to sort it out with the help of some guys online. I now have beautiful data which I now access in my house using a simple url in real time.. Find below the wonderful graphs.

Very nice .Also look at pVOUT.org since you have the data already . It keeps much better records and allows you to compare with another systems ( although nobody except me from Nigeria )

https://pvoutput.org

Have you looked into MQTT and NODE red where it will also allow you to control loads using a Raspberry Pi - say when Battery is full allow AC to run. C

sukam vs prag inverter, which one is more rugged?

5 * 6 * 12 = 360wh
8 * 6 * 4 = 128 wh
90 * 4 = 360 wh
I will assume the fans are normal standing fan
40 * 2 * 8 = 640wh

I will assume charging phones is for 4 hours and 3 phones

12w * 3 * 3 = 108wh

1596 which we round off to 1600wh

That's your daily consumption based on the above stated numbers.

The number of PV you would need to generate what is used (note that due to battery inefficiency and other loses you would need to generate more than 1600 to replace the 1600wh used up daily)

You can start with 2 250w panels or better still 3. At 750w panel would be sufficient to meet your daily needs and give you some chance at day time opportunity loads. 500w would be fine.

Using a general rule of 5 day sun a 500 what panel would theoretically give u 2500wh. When we include the 70% derating of the panels due to general off-grid inefficiency

2500 * .70 = 1750wh

That's the amount u would be able to generate in a day.

For battery bank. The general rule is to your battery at 50% depth of discharge

Go for a 24v system with a 24v Inverter there are more efficient and makes it easier to upgrade.

2 150ah or 200ah battery should be fine. If it's a 200ah battery

200 * 24 = 4800wh

Your daily 1600wh would represent about 34% depth of discharge which will give u a healthy battery that will last and last.

3 panels would ensure you are able to out back what you use. 2 batteries ensure you never over use the battery. 24v Inverter better efficiency.
Post finally came back.

That's very very untrue!
I have the 4kva Prag, it carries my 2 fridges plus a deep freezer, booster pump, gencool air conditioner and my other house loads.

My daytime loads cycle between 1.2kw and 3.5kw.
My night time loads between 200w and 300w.

There's always the overload alarm when I exceed 3.2kw grin grin

Unfortunately I haven't. I'm sure there are several good folks here who do... They'll share their experiences shortly.

I am very happy with the Prag at my current load level.
Later in the year when I'll have sustained daytime excursions beyond 3kw, I'll upgrade to a 5kva Multiplus. I still dey save money.

A grid tied inverter is not illegal in Nigeria. Feeding back to the grid is what is not allowed. You can use a string inverter / grid tied inverter that works in conjunction with your battery inverter. They are called AC coupled systems. All the production is consumed or used the charge your batteries. The Battery inverter has to be able to do frequency shifting for it to work. There are a few people within this forum that do it using SMA Inverters and have yet to kill anyone.

Thank you Chris for the education. Many people dont know what AC coupling with grid-tie systems is. Grid-tie should NOT always be associated with back-feeding to the national grid. It can be used on simulated "local" grids where frequency shift control or load diversion can be employed to control excess power generation and protect the battery bank.
