Fidha254:That was actually the biggest until last week when it was handed over to the Government after its completion. The Mombasa-Nairobi line was Phase 1, The Phase 2 part of the project is between Nairobi-Naivasha worth 20b. It contains an internal container depot with an underground train system. Konza city which is still in its initial stages has also had a major boost after all the amenities were put in place. An electricity power substation & Water reservoir connection to the city are all complete.

The Nigerian economy is widely considered to be a mono-economy with an excessive dependence on revenue from the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources. It has been severely impacted by the recent global decline in the price of crude oil. This has caused the current administration to adopt more decisive policies to achieve a much-needed expansion of the economy. The 2016 budget has an increased focus on capital expenditure, particularly in the areas of infrastructure works, power and housing. There is significant interest in the development of Nigeria's transportation networks including road, rail, airports and sea ports. A deep sea port with railway project connecting Calabar with Port Harcourt and Onne Deep Sea Port, estimated to cost US$3.5 billion, is currently being constructed. [/b]The recently commissioned Abuja-Kaduna rail line is one of the first standard gauge railway modernisation projects undertaken in Nigeria while the Lagos State light rail project is expected to commence operations soon. The Lagos-Ibadan expressway, one of the largest road networks in Africa, the oldest expressway and busiest inter-state route in Nigeria, is also undergoing extensive rehabilitation. The power sector, which was privatised in 2013, continues to attract phenomenal interest from the private sector despite perceived challenges. The private sector has also shown an increased appetite for investment in real estate. Recent projects, including those listed below are all being developed through public private partnerships (PPPs). The continuing expansion of Nigeria's middle class has made investments in condominiums and shopping malls a popular choice for private capital. In the Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2016–2018, the Government listed the following projects for implementation: Mambila Hydro Electric Power Project (estimated to cost US$4.8 billion), which will deliver circa 3,000 MW of electricity to the National Grid. Railway modernisation coastal project covering Calabar to Port Harcourt and Onne Deep Sea Port (estimated to cost US$3.5 billion). The Federal Capital Territory's Mass Rail Transit Project (estimated to cost US$1.6 billion). The Lagos to Kano Rail Modernisation Project (of which the Lagos to Ibadan segment will be double track) (estimated to cost US$1.3 billion). The second Lagos to Kano Rail Modernisation Project (Kano to Kaduna segment will be double track) (estimated to cost US$1.1 billion). Major projects Recent infrastructure and construction projects in Nigeria include: The Abuja-Kaduna Railway Project. The Novare Lekki Mall. Abuja Centenary City, Abuja. Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. World Trade Centre, Abuja. Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos. Abuja Millennium Tower. The second Niger Bridge concession, in Anambra and Delta States. Lagos State Light Rail. The Azura-Edo 500 MW independent power project. |

Marcelo290:The combined population (about 130 million) of all those countries that transit cargo goes to through the mombasa port is not more than the population of Nigeria alone (180 million) .. Besides its not like Nigerian ports don't handle cargo for landlocked countries such as Niger and Chad |
