olamitie: I bought those 2 bowls in the pic below. I use the transparent one for formula and the white one for cereal (from 6 months). I measure out the scoops of milk she takes into the corresponding number of feeds for each day. Example, assuming she eats 120ml, 3 times while I'm away... Then I'll measure 4 scoops into 3 different bowls. I boil hot water n put in her flask n also put 1 bottled water in her bag for diluting hot water. I instruct the nanny on how many Mls of water Dt shld b used to mix her milk... Also if for any reason, u increase her feed, make sure u let d nanny know. I pack 5 feeding bottles (4 for milk and a small one for water). 1 Like 1 Share

Akorkor: You can start now or wait for the two weeks. If your baby already has good head control, is sitting up and has doubled his weight, you don't need to wait for the 6 months. You might even be underfeeding him. I started at 4 months because he had teeth and was fighting his brother for his food. He likes food so much that i have to practically force him to drink milk and take cereal. In the evening, before i bathe him, i give him mashed beans or rice and stew. Then before he goes to bed, i give him a bottle of milk. He sleeps like a baby till the next day. Initially, he was waking up to suck as placebo so i started giving him water and then he stopped waking up. 1 Like |

Mamas have answered the formula question well. Do you use barrier cream for your LO? it may be a reaction to that or the diaper especially if you changed diaper recently. olamitie: 2 Likes 1 Share |

Newmercies: #Give him water before and after every feed. #Give him warm water first thing in the morning. #Reduce the scoops by one and increase the feeds by one. ( ie if you should make 5 scoops for every bottle, reduce to 4 scoops with the same amount of water and if you feed him with 5 bottles in a day, increase it to 6 so he gets back all the scoops you checked out.) 6 Likes 1 Share |

Newmercies: Try going a scoop less on the formula and see if that works... Since ur LO is on formula, u can give little warm water at intervals, in between feeds. 2 Likes |

Akorkor: 8.3kg is a good weight. That's the average for an 8month baby. So, she could have started earlier. Good luck mama. |

obinrinrere: I think you should wait at least 2/3 months. Tom brown is a mixture of different grains. My opinion is to start with single grain like rice at 4 months. Then you can start the Tom Brown at 6 months. 4 Likes |

Florena: I will only add a few additional suggestions As a few sound suggestions have been given. The only thing i would suggest is for you to work towards doing your child minding from home rather than as a day nanny at the another family's home. If you do the later, remember you will need to have your child taken care of, so except the money you are making can justify the decision you may be shooting yourself in the foot. (for example: you are paying 10K to have your child in day care for a month and then you are only making 12K as a day nanny ..... for me the maths doesnt work) I am not saying you need to be making millions, I know its a passion, but if you are not making enough money to at least cover your own household expenses and a bit on the side for savings then you need to re-evaluate. As you will get frustrated. There are numerous child minding activities that can be provided from home, i think Zaynie has listed a few. As a variation to thr school bus pick up if you have a car, and a license, invest in a couple of car seats you can even do nursery/ creche pick up or evening care for parents that are unable to pick their babies up at the time that the creche closes. Just one or two babies for a few of hours in the evening between 6 and 9pm. (you could provide dinner and bath services for pick up by 9pm so that the parents can pick up and go straight to bed when they get home) if they are later than the agreed time, you may charge them extra. Arrange to have a settling period of 2 weeks where the parents will come for like 30 mins to 1 hour for a 2 week period so the children get a bit used to you. And also, if the evening care is not a regular thing or only as emergency, then you, the parent and the creche will need to work out a password or a means of letting all parties know that you are to pick the kids up Also you have a password with the parents in case they are unable to come pick their child up, and have to send someone you do not know. ( they should bring ID too) This is my own two cents. All the best. Let us know how it gets on. 9 Likes |

zaynie: @Newmercies This works, I used this method to ease my lo's constipation, however, I suggest you start with 10mls in between feeds combined with reducing the number of scoops as explained by zaynie and see how it goes. Also google other ways you can ease constipation in babies. You will find things like tummy massage, cycling exercise and so on 1 Like |
