November 18: Why Anambra needs Dr Chike Obidigbo.

I stumbled upon a publication on the IGR of all the regions and states in Nigeria, and I was utterly amazed that Ogun state gets about 73 billion naira from Internally Generated Revenue annually.

[b]The Ogun state IGR is higher than the IGR of the entire southeast states put together. [/b]The publication puts IGR from the five states of southeast to about 50 billion naira annually.

This is the sole reason Ndigbo should start looking inward. The era of electing a governor to come and wait for Abuja, get allocation, pay workers and rush to media to hail himself is over.

Every region and indeed each state is looking at how to boost its local economy. Without a viable economy which drives revenue increase, we will continue to witness low IGR, rise in unemployment, dearth of infrastructure and capital flight.

It is no longer fashionable for our leaders to think that the only way to increase state IGR is to tax our market men and women heavily, appoint numerous aides on IGR and use all kind of touts to collect revenue. IGR is increased largely by attracting businesses and industries as well as tightening the leakages in all the revenue pay points.

However, as Anambra goes to POLL on November 18, Dr Chike Obidigbo is the only aspirant who has made strong promise on developing the economy of the state and by extension that of igboland. It is time to elect leaders who can attract real investments through sustainable policies that will guarantee investment security. It takes an entrepreneur to understand the right policies to grow the local economy.

It is disheartening that DISTILL an international manufacturer of Amarula and sundry spirits and wines that was lured to invest in Oraifite-Ozubulu axis of Anambra State by the Peter Obi administration following the success made by Inta Facts Beverages (subsidiary of Sab-Miller), maker of Hero Beer and other products has fled the state.

The present administration was to ensure that Distell’s facility was set up without unnecessary delay. But alas, this administration could not follow up and couldn't prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment Report.

Out of frustration, Distell left Anambra, and the State lost the job opportunities and the economic boost which would have accrued to her if the company had begun operations.

Lagos state today boasts of highest IGR of about 300 billion naira annually because it is the industrial hub of subsaharan Africa. Ogun state enjoys same through Sagamu-Lagos and Lagos-Otta industrial corridors.

Dr Chike Obidigbo will ensure that these unnecessary dilly-dallying and bureaucracy occasioned by unseriousness of govt officials that drive away our investors are reviewed. He has proposed to establish functional independent power plants within the first 12 months of his administration in Obosi and Igbo-Ukwu to serve the businesses and industrial clusters of Onitsha and Nnewi axes.

This is the major step to revamping the local economy and attracting industries to the state. Provision of stable power will also boost small and medium scale enterprises. There shall be in place consolidated tax system to be development oriented and business friendly.

Dr Obidigbo's administration will map out strategic sites for business clusters to ensure that businessmen from Anambra State have easy access to land to pursue investments which they have comparative and competitive advantages.

Doors of business and investment will be opened by limiting the scale at which government interferes with businesses. Investors will be free of all encumbrances that curtail the flow of economic activities.

Dr Chike Obidigbo, is what Anambra State needs now, to unlock the economic potentials in the state, drive the state economy and in his four years administration make Anambra fiscally viable with an IGR that will largely sustain the financial needs of the state.

Let's support Dr Chike Obidigbo, to Correct Correctly.

That example you gave of the incompetence handling of EIA that led to the company is unfortunate. Government laxidasical attitude is big issue. This along with other power plant. Is it going to be PPP or state run?

During my stay in d east, I noticed that many ppl in d east prefer to plaster and paint d outer part of their house,and leave d inside unplastered/painted , which is d exact opposite of how we do in the west.
