I have not watched Osimhen because his Progress was hampered by Injury and when he returned, it was on the Bench.

Therefore, how are we so sure he's not match rusty?! How are will so certain he's fit and deserves the Call up!

He should have been allowed to go on Holiday to recuperate better and fully prepare for the next Season.

You are not sure because of your limited knowledge of the matter. Unlike Rohr who is up close with the players, has insights into German football and is in camp to judge the player.

Iheanacho as a Seventeen years old did better than most experienced City players during City's American tour. He was not as experienced as the older players but he was better. So experience in no way means better.

grin

You just nailed it Dude. His lack of Experience made him to play better and outshone the Oldies in the Team because he thought his Future depends on it and wanted to impress the Manager.

Who take Pre-Season serious, except Newbies. Even if Messi was in the Team, Iheanacho would outshine him too.

However, why didn't he cement his Place in the Team since he was the better one? Why did Pep return him back to Drilling School?!

This is where Experience comes to play.

I did not say some clowns. I said weaker league. It is a fact.
I hope you realise Austria qualified for the last Euro nations cup, winning 9 games at a spin and drew only once out of 10 games. At some point last year, they made the Fifa top 10.
All these achieved with mostly players from their league.
You may say their league is weak, but it doesn't change the fact that something is brewing in that country. I rate the Austrian league ahead of the Scandinavian league.
I honestly do not see a gulf in class between the Austrian league and Belgian league. They are on par with Belgian and Swiz leagues.

They have recorded massive growth.

Gabriel Jesus is not as experienced as Aguero but Pep prefers him. Pep left Aguero on the bench repeatedly for an inexperienced Gabriel Jesus.

It is about better, not experience.

They have recorded growth, but did not win the Euros. Doubt they passed first round. Good side, I praise their determination to grow but their league is still weak.

I don't know your own definition of Experience because Jesus was a Regular for his Club in Brazil before he moved to Man City.

So was he a Crook while plying his Trade in Brazil?! Which Club Iheanacho played for in Nigeria before he moved to Europe?!

Or playing in your native Country doesn't add up to garnering Experience?!

EXTRA TIME: Watch Victor Osimhen's Super Eagles initiation

The Wolfsburg forward was welcomed to the Gernot Rohr's squad in an incredible way
In the usual rosy atmosphere which is aimed at promoting team's bonding for new arrivals, Victor Osimhenwas introduced to the Nigeria senior national team.

Osimhen who was introduced as a second half substitute in Nigeria's 3-0 win over Togo, sang Tekno’s hit single ‘Rara’ as his colleagues welcomed him to the camp in Uyo.

The 18-year-old attacker will be aiming to make his first competitive bow for Super Eagles when they host South Africa for the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday.

About last nite. @victorosimhen9 was given the traditional welcome to the team baptism.

Watch him perform 'Rara' by Tekno. #SoarSuperEagles #TeamBonding #Togetherness #Family #UnityIskey

I beg to differ. Most Austrian first team players are predominantly bundesliga based or EPL. From the top of my head, Fuchs, Prodl, Wimmer, Aurnatovic EPL; Alaba, Baumatlinger, Dragovic & Shcopf Bundesliga; Janko is not Austrian based. But I get your point tho that they may have played in Austrian league at one point in their career.

Eagles First Training : Arsenal Whizkid Stars, Alhassan Pushing For Starting Shirt

Akwa United offensive all-rounder Alhassan Ibrahim is pushing for a starting shirt against South Africa, in what would be his competitive debut for the national team if that comes to pass, having impressed the coaching staff during the training session on Tuesday.

Twenty players were divided into two groups, with Team A wearing green, while Team B suited up in orange.

Alhassan played as a midfielder for Team B, he was all over the pitch, taking the ball out of defense before initiating attacks. The ex-Flying Eagle played more like a box-to-box midfielder.

Teammate Alex Iwobi also sparkled, running between the defense and midfield to receive passes and distributed the ball perfectly.

Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho seems to be the designated penalty taker, the striker successfully converted his penalty kick after Etebo was felled in the box.

After the water break, Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi replaced Ezenwa. The training ended around 1200 hours.

Confirmed Lineups

Team A : Ezenwa (Akpeyi) Troost-Ekong, Awaziem, Shehu, Maroof Yusuf, Onazi, Ndidi, Onyekuru, Kayode, Oshimen.

Team B : Alampasu, Agbo, Ogu, Ebuehi, Alhassan, Etebo, Agu, Iwobi, Iheanacho, Moses Simon.

How about Netherlands who didn't even qualify for the tournament?

If you see quality appreciate it, irrespective of where you find it. Because you think their league is poor (which by the way is on par with Belgium, Switzerland, Russia leagues ), it doesn't mean you cannot find quality there.
You should learn to judge players by what they bring to the table rather than the club they play for.

Obviously they have a good bunch of players in various leagues across Europe. Which is just about a handful, the rest play at home.
I will say close to 70% play at home. All of them started in Austria.

Also, the world's best high performance training centre is located in Alps Austria. Elite athletes train there before major tournaments like Olympics. I think Arsenal had their pre season camping for like 10yrs in a row at the Alps.
They are seriously developing.

OPPONENT WATCH

We have got to shut the crowd up in Nigeria‚ says Bafana coach Baxter
Stuart Baxter says if Bafana Bafana can shut the crowd up in the first 20 minutes of Bafana Bafana's 2019 Africa Cup Nations qualifier against Nigeria in Uyo on Saturday‚ it will be advantage South Africa.
Bafana meet Nigeria in their opening qualifier for Cameroon 2019 having never beaten their nemesis the Super Eagles in a competitive match.

This will also be Baxter's first game in charge at the start of his second tenure as Bafana coach.

"I think we've got to shut the crowd up. That's one of our big jobs‚" Baxter said ahead of his team's afternoon departure to overnight in Lagos‚ then flight to Uyo in central Nigeria on Thursday morning.

"If we let the crowd get excited‚ and Nigeria enjoy the game‚ then I think that's going to be a big plus for them.

"I think if we can turn that around and frustrate them a bit‚ and be better than they think‚ and have more to say than they think‚ then maybe the crowd could be a bit of a negative for them.

"I think that's important. And maybe if Niegria could have chosen‚ they might not really have wanted to play us in the first game at home.

"Because then there is the scenario that if they lose they're going to be under tremendous pressure from the beginning.

"So we have to use that. With the mental part of the game‚ the boys have to feel that this is one where we can spoil the party a bit. We can make it difficult for Nigeria."

Baxter said stifling Nigeria in the opening 20 minutes could be crucial for Bafana.

"It will be big. The critical phases of the game are always important‚ and I think the first period in this game is a big one.

"Because that will either bring the crowd into the game‚ or it will take them out a bit.

"If the first 20 minutes are not what they had hoped‚ then immediately the crowd will make their displeasure felt‚ then they will be baying for blood. And I think that will be advantage us."

The coach said Bafana's two draws against Nigeria - including having held a 2-0 lead in Uyo - in the qualifiers for Afcon 2015‚ which SA reached at the defending champions' expense‚ has helped chip away at the Eagles' psychological advantage.

"I think that having been there and having gone through it‚ it gives the players a sense of calm. I don't think we fear Nigeria as much as respect them‚" the coach said.

"The players have gone there‚ they've gone through the mill so to speak.

"They're thinking that they have gone there‚ and maybe if they had hung on they could have gotten the result."

Bafana and Nigeria are drawn with Seychelles and Libya in Group E.

Eagles Training Day 2 : Ogu Shines As CB, Alhassan Dazzles, Akpeyi Dropped

The Super Eagles rounded up their training on Wednesday ahead of this weekend's African Cup of Nations qualifier with a practice match between Team A and Team B, which ended goalless.

The players were all wearing green tops at the start of training, but Team A had to wear blue training tops before the start of the practice game.

You never know what is on Rohr's mind, as the German tactician deployed John Ogu as a central defender for the second straight day, and the Hapoel Beer Sheva star impressed in his new role, staying calm with or without the ball.

Akwa United star Alhassan Ibrahim started the game on the bench, but replaced Watford midfielder Uche Agbo with 15 minutes remaining.

The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star showed good skills and combined well with the strikers Kayode, Musa and Onyekuru.

Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was not involved in the practice game, a big hint that Rohr is satisfied with his fitness and he'll start in goal against South Africa. Training ended around 1200 hours.

Confirmed Lineups

Team A (Blue) : Ezenwa, Omeruo, Troost, Maroof, Ebuehi, Mikel, Agbo (Alhassan), Osimhen, Kayode, Onyekuru,Musa

Team B (Green) : Alampasu, Ogu, Awaziem, Echiejile, Shehu , Ndidi, Onazi, Etebo, Moses, Iwobi, Iheanacho

You all need to shut up about Kayode and Osimhen, both of them are BENCH WARMERS for the Super Eagles anyway, neither of whom may even last till the worl dcup next year, so, for the life of me, I don't understand the purpose of the bickering.

Do you think if we secure Tammy Abraham before 2018 that we'll see those guys in the team? Who knows if another Omyekuru will pop up by December? What if Kayode moves to Germany and is a flop there? What if Osimhen finally plays a full half and more for Wolfsburg but turns out to be nothing special?

The only team we have right now are:

GK: Ikeme and Akpeyi

DF: Echiejile, Ekong and Balogun

MF: Mikel, Ndidi, Onazi

FW: Iheanacho, Iwobi, V Moses, Etebo

Everybody else is on trial, and while it may be nice to consider the trialists once in a while, it is boring and annoying to read over and over about fringe players when we have a game coming up that the chances of either of them featuring is slim to none.

So, why don't we go back to talking about players who will actually kick a ball on Saturday?

Has anyone seen Ndidi's new haircut? grin

Apologies for the triple posting guys, network is a bish.

My point remains though, if we must argue blindly about fringe players, would be nice if they at least looked good like Awaziem and Ebuehi....Osimhen try, but Kayode issa....hmmm

BTW, I checked on Snapchat yesterday and Iwobi's snap was conspicuously missing, did someone take his phone from him? Has he been kidnapped? Was he sedated by Kelechi? Why didn't he have a recent story by 10PM last night?

These are the matters we should focus on, not Austrian leagues and that awful shade of green Wolfsburg has Osimhen wearing in that picture undecided

Kayode deserves his call-up.. It is up to him to continue proving himself.

There are valid arguments against the call-up of Osimhen but we do not know all the variables at play.

That should end the argument.

wow how time flies you mean it's one year already since his passing on? my fondest memories of keshi as a player was the game against senegal in the 1992 afcon tournament. his earlier mistake had allowed the senegalese to equalize but he made up for it by scoring the winner minutes later and what a cracker it was. not also forgetting his tearful celebration in that cold algerian night after we qualified for the first time for the world cup. as a coach i will forever appreciate him for bringing back pride and respect to the national team by guiding us to that unexpected 2013 afcon win. continue to sleep well BIG BOSS!

Well yes. The focus now should be the match at hand. Even if they want to continue the 'fringe' players debate, why not do so as it has to do with preparation for the South Africa match? Abi will our argument help the case of Kayode and Osimhen in camp. They are already in camp. Let us monitor the 'trialists' versus the 'established' (with regard to your list). And maybe talk about our likely starting eleven. In fact i'm taking note of the line up that Rohr is drawing out during the training sessions and trying to make some deductions. I think it's fun to for us to have opinions of the likely starting line up, and then see what happens on Saturday. At least that argument will culminate into something tangible, than throwing endless tantrums which will end in notbody being right or wrong

‎How They Lined Up & Why Eagles Training Session Ended Goalless

The training sessions of the Super Eagles is yet to produce a winner in training matches with today’s game ending nil all after yesterday’s clash that ended 1-1.

Coach Gernot Rohr divided the players into two teams, and watched on as the players slug it out for shirts ahead of Saturday’s game against South Africa which will take place at the Godswil Akpabio Stadium.

The reason for the goalless scoreline can’t be far fetched from the fact that the regular attackers of the team like Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi and Oghenekaro Etebo were ‎up against defenders who are the preferred options for coach Gernot Rohr.

For instance, Iwobi and Iheanacho were up against William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo, while Ahmed Musa speed was put to test against vice captain Elderson Echiejile.

They cancelled out each other during duels in the session as Rohr continue to build up the team’s pattern and fitness ahead of the Bafana Bafana clash.

Here is how they lined up.

Team A

Dele Alampasu
John Ogu
Elderson Echiejile
Chidozie Awaziem
Shehu Abdullahi
Wilfred Ndidi
Ogenyi Onazi
Alex Iwobi
Oghenekaro Etebo
Kelechi Iheanacho
Moses Simon

Team B

Ikechukwu Ezenwa
Maroof Youssef
Mikel Agu
Uche Agbo (Alhassan Ibrahim)
Kenneth Omeruo
William Troost-Ekong
Tyronne Ebuehi
Henry Onyekuru
Ahmed Musa
Olarewaju Kayode
Victor Osimhen

Eagles Training Game – Ogu Steals The Show As Rohr Experiments With Three At The Back

All eyes was feasted on Hapoel Be’er Sheva midfield powerhouse John Ogu who for the second day lined up as a centre back in Training with the Super Eagles ahead of their clash against South Africa on Saturday.

The Eagles lined up with Rohr breaking up the near perfect central defence ‎partnership between Chidozie Awaziem and William Troost-Ekong in favour of a back three style of defence in the practice game that ended 0-0.

Although Alampasu put in some fine save and showed awareness to pluck crosses, the main star of the show was John Ogu who was commanding as part of a back three comprising of Awaziem and Elderson Echiejile.

Ogu occupied the left side of the three centre backs and dominated Henry Onyekuru and Victor Osimhen in aerial duels, with Ahmed Musa’s pace the only worry he had throughout the session.

His constant barking out of instructions also helped Awaziem who played as his pair in central defence put in a commendable shift, while for the other team Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo were returned as centre back pairings just like they did against Zambia in Ndola.

from the bold it seems rohr might be looking at the 3-4-3 formation. also looks like john ogu might gate crash the starting XI
