Do our reporters provide too much information on our training sessions? I feel like I can already tell how we will line up.

lol.. what's your take on it then? I think I know what Rohr is doing. By the way OGN is just making their own deductions as well.

Top Five Performance In Eagles Training – Ndidi Stars, Mu’azam, Omeruo & Ogu In Top Three

Akwa United star forward Alhassan Ibrahim is making inroads with the senior national team of Nigeria , with the lanky forward putting up another strong performance in training today despite coming on after the session has started.

Mu’azam replaced Uche Agbo few minutes into the session, and his abilities to pick out his man with well weighted passes even in tight situations earned him applause from the spectators who chanted “Kanu”‎, whenever he is on the ball.

Kenneth Omeruo who had his first training session with the team paired William Troost-Ekong and put in a strong shift which frustrated Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, and to a large extent Oghenekaro Etebo.

Omeruo was particularly impressive in winning tackles neatly and helping in turning defence into attack for his team, who were very much pack filled with players who are either new or freshers in the team.

John Ogu picked up from where he stopped in yesterday’s session with another solid performance at the heart of the defence, as part of a back three with Chidozie Awaziem and Elderson Echiejile as his partners.

Ogu was dominant in aerial duels, and picking out long range passes. His size also helped him barge players off the ball with minimal fuss despite playing in central defence as opposed to his original role as a defensive midfielder.

Ahmed Musa is also proving that his poor form for Leicester City isn’t an ‎issue as he was once again one of the liveliest players during the session with his pace proving to be the only problem Ogu had in defence.

Wilfred Ndidi‎ had a captain performance in the midfield dovetailing nicely with captain Ogenyi Onazi, with Onazi allowing him the space to push further up the pitch, where he can be deadly with his shooting abilities.

You all need to shut up about Kayode and Osimhen, both of them are BENCH WARMERS for the Super Eagles anyway, neither of whom may even last till the worl d cup next year, so, for the life of me, I don't understand the purpose of the bickering.

Do you think if we secure Tammy Abraham before 2018 that we'll see those guys in the team? Who knows if another Onyekuru will pop up by December? What if Kayode moves to Germany and is a flop there? What if Osimhen finally plays a full half and more for Wolfsburg but turns out to be nothing special?

The only team we have right now are:

GK: Ikeme

DF: Echiejile, Ekong and Balogun

MF: Mikel, Ndidi, Onazi

FW: Iheanacho, Iwobi, V Moses, Etebo

Everybody else is on trial, and while it may be nice to consider the trialists once in a while, it is boring and annoying to read over and over about fringe players when we have a game coming up that the chances of either of them featuring is slim to none.

So, why don't we go back to talking about players who will actually kick a ball on Saturday?

Has anyone seen Ndidi's new haircut? grin

Going by this report we MIGHT just see Omeruo starting on Saturday if he continues this way and barring any last minute hitches

Any players chosen should just execute the match and give us winning that's all I'm asking for

A team of 22 good players where everyone in his position is as good as the other or close to the other in quality. That's a winning team.

I repeat, I have nothing against Kayode. Been a fan of him since his U17 days. I am saying take the highest goal scorer props with a pinch of salt because the Austrian League is weak.
If we take everything with a pinch of salt, we may not be able to field a team. A good percentage of our regulars don't play in top 4 European leagues, neither do they play for championship winning sides.

OPPONENT WATCH

We have got to shut the crowd up in Nigeria‚ says Bafana coach Baxter
Stuart Baxter says if Bafana Bafana can shut the crowd up in the first 20 minutes of Bafana Bafana's 2019 Africa Cup Nations qualifier against Nigeria in Uyo on Saturday‚ it will be advantage South Africa.
Bafana meet Nigeria in their opening qualifier for Cameroon 2019 having never beaten their nemesis the Super Eagles in a competitive match.

This will also be Baxter's first game in charge at the start of his second tenure as Bafana coach.

"I think we've got to shut the crowd up. That's one of our big jobs‚" Baxter said ahead of his team's afternoon departure to overnight in Lagos‚ then flight to Uyo in central Nigeria on Thursday morning.

"If we let the crowd get excited‚ and Nigeria enjoy the game‚ then I think that's going to be a big plus for them.

"I think if we can turn that around and frustrate them a bit‚ and be better than they think‚ and have more to say than they think‚ then maybe the crowd could be a bit of a negative for them.

"I think that's important. And maybe if Niegria could have chosen‚ they might not really have wanted to play us in the first game at home.

"Because then there is the scenario that if they lose they're going to be under tremendous pressure from the beginning.

"So we have to use that. With the mental part of the game‚ the boys have to feel that this is one where we can spoil the party a bit. We can make it difficult for Nigeria."

Baxter said stifling Nigeria in the opening 20 minutes could be crucial for Bafana.

"It will be big. The critical phases of the game are always important‚ and I think the first period in this game is a big one.

"Because that will either bring the crowd into the game‚ or it will take them out a bit.

"If the first 20 minutes are not what they had hoped‚ then immediately the crowd will make their displeasure felt‚ then they will be baying for blood. And I think that will be advantage us."

The coach said Bafana's two draws against Nigeria - including having held a 2-0 lead in Uyo - in the qualifiers for Afcon 2015‚ which SA reached at the defending champions' expense‚ has helped chip away at the Eagles' psychological advantage.

"I think that having been there and having gone through it‚ it gives the players a sense of calm. I don't think we fear Nigeria as much as respect them‚" the coach said.

"The players have gone there‚ they've gone through the mill so to speak.

"They're thinking that they have gone there‚ and maybe if they had hung on they could have gotten the result."

Bafana and Nigeria are drawn with Seychelles and Libya in Group E.

The Intensity Of Super Eagles Training Is Scary – SA Journalist Confesses
June 7, 2017 Nigeria

As the Super Eagles continue their build up to Saturday’s game against South Africa in the race to be at the 2019 AFCON, a journalist from the rainbow nation has given up on their chances.

James Robert watched the Super Eagles high octane training session this morning at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, and according to him the level which the Eagles performed in today’s session should give his team a cause for concern.

” My brother I saw poetry in motion, they are swift in the way they play. The pace and the intensity is scary. I’m happy our team didn’t see today’s session else they would have given up like me”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” I was of the opinion that will cause an upset in Uyo, but based on what I saw today, in my heart the game has been won and lost. Nigeria will no doubt win, we don’t have the quality to stand this intense style of play. It’s scary.

” We (South Africa) will one day get there but for now, we have to be say it the way it is. Nigeria are by far the better team at the moment. Anything can happen like they say in football, not in this case I think”.

Super Eagles, Bafana Bafana battle for Group E ascendancy

Eagles Striker Olanare Aaron Samuel (right)

by Graeme Jackson

Nigeria will welcome South Africa for a vital Group E clash in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they meet in Uyo on Saturday, June 10. The match is set for the Akwa Ibom Stadium, with kick-off at 18h00 CAT.

Neither the Super Eagles nor Bafana Bafana qualified for the last AFCON in Gabon earlier this year, meaning a place in the 2019 finals is a major priority for both - at least until the 2018 World Cup qualifiers resume.

While Nigeria have had German coach Gernot Rohr in charge of their team for the better part of a year, South Africa will see this match as the start of a new era under Stuart Baxter.

The Englishman is entering his second spell in charge of Bafana Bafana and immediately faces a huge challenge in overseeing an attempted return to the AFCON.

Yet there is a sense of deja vu for SA, who were in a very similar position ahead of the qualifiers for the 2015 tournament: ‘Shakes’ Mashaba had just taken charge of the team (for his second permanent tenure) and they found themselves in a challenging group alongside Nigeria.

What followed was an unbeaten campaign in which Bafana topped the group, secured qualification for the AFCON finals and ensured the Super Eagles didn’t make the cut.

Yet Baxter and Bafana would be foolish to expect a repeat - certainly not without some serious hard work and the odd slice of luck. And this Nigeria team is far improved from the one which missed out on the 2015 (and 2017) finals.

For a start, Rohr has brought a greater sense of organisation and discipline to the team, which has mostly not compromised the natural attacking flair Nigeria have always been renowned for.

For proof of their improvement, look no further than the Russia 2018 qualifiers, where Rohr’s Eagles are top of the ‘Group of Death’ thanks to impressive wins over Zambia and Algeria.

And they also racked up a big 3-0 win over Togo in a friendly last week, though Rohr reckons they have plenty to work on ahead of meeting South Africa: "Our team is young and has a good future, [but] there is a lot of work to do still," he told Kwesé ESPN.

"We had a good camp in Corsica on the invitation of their association. Between the mountain and the sea, we could work well with our four local [in Nigeria's domestic league] players and new ones like [Henry] Onyekuru and [Mikel] Agu.

"And we also had excellent conditions in Paris. Nice pitches and a beautiful stadium where we got to work on two different organizations, 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2 and give competitive football to the players who needed it.”

Nigeria have generally bossed South Africa in senior football, with the Super Eagles claiming seven victories (compared to just one for Bafana Bafana) in 12 official meetings. SA have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive match, with the teams playing to draws in their meetings in the 2015 qualifiers.

Nigeria name Ogenyi Onazi as captain in Mikel’s absence

Ogenyi Onazi

by Graeme Jackson

Nigeria have named Ogenyi Onazi as captain for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa this weekend.

The teams will meet in their opening Group E clash in Uyo on Saturday evening.

The Nigerian Football Federation have confirmed that Onazi will wear the armband for the Super Eagles, with regular captain John Obi Mikel missing the match as he recovers from injury.

“I have confidence in the group that we have now and the ambition oozing in the camp. We want to go to the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations,” said Onazi, as quoted by Allnigeriasoccer.com.

“Starting well on Saturday will be key to our aspiration.”

In addition, news coming out of Nigeria training is that locally-based attacking midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim may earn himself a start, while Premier League players Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho have also impressed.

PSG move to sign Nigerian midfielder

www.nairaland.com/attachments/5460527_andersonesiti_jpegf73d7c6f9f8a0625cbce1ed25969b94d

Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Gent and Super Eagles midfielder Anderson Esiti in the coming summer transfer window.

Blogvisaodemercado.pt reports that PSG new sporting director Antero Henrique has penciled down the Nigerian international as part of his reinforcementplans for the Parisians' midfield.

With Thiago Motta turning 35 in August and GrzegorzKrychowiak's below par performance last season, theFrench club need a defensive midfielder and the arrival Esiti could prove very vital.

Henrique has reportedly opened talks with the representative of Esiti, Paul Onamomo with a view to a transfer, according to Goal but the report says the challenge in PSG's pursuit of Esiti is that there is a gap in the player's valuation, with Gent holding out fora fee of 20 million euros (N8 billion).

South Africa to arrive Nigeria on Wednesday

www.nairaland.com/attachments/5460551_sothafricajpg_jpegfa48dff2cc4d558fee333a90a6cd1f7e

The South African Football Association have confirmed that the Bafana Bafana delegation will fly into Lagos on Wednesday and then immediately connect a flight to Uyo, as both teams looked forward to a pulsating game on the turf of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Although the Bafana Bafana have never beaten the Super Eagles in a competitive game, Nigerians would remember that a 2-2 draw at the same venue between both teams in November 2014 meant the Eagles missed the cut for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Tokelo Rantie scored both goals, before left –sided midfielder Sone Aluko also replied with a brace – something that is a usual occurrence in matches between both nations.

Before Rantie and Aluko, Rashidi Yekini (of blessed memory), pacy wingers Tijani Babangida and Osaze Odemwingie and forwards Uche Nwofor and Ejike Uzoenyi had bagged braces in matches between bothnations at senior level.

Nigeria’s army on Saturday will include former junior international Kelechi Iheanacho, who has scored in seven of his last eight matches for the Super Eagles, as well as record scorer in the FIFA U17 World Cup, Victor Osimhen. There are also this season’s top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga, Olanrewaju Kayode, the pacy Moses Simon and the nimble –footed Alex Iwobi.

The last outing between both teams was a friendly match at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit two years ago, which ended 1-1. Ahmed Musa scored a late goal in a game in which Daniel Akpeyi (likely to start in goal for Nigeria on Saturday) saved a penalty, but there was still time for the Bafana Bafana to draw level.

Opara makes MLS Team of the Week

www.nairaland.com/attachments/5460593_okparajpg_jpegd8353a1087ec1c665253609fd99c4742

Sporting Kansas City defender Ike Opara has been named in the Major League Soccer Team of the Weekfor the latest round of games fixtures.

Sporting Kansas City's marked dominance suggested a goal was coming. The team had unleashed a barrage of 16 first-half shots against a wobbly Minnesota United FC side — the most in a half by any MLS team this year — but the breakthrough had evaded Peter Vermes' men heading into first-half stoppage time.

Then, almost out of nowhere, Ike Opara exploited a pocket of space and sent a 30-yard laser into the corner of the net to give Sporting Kansas City its deserved lead. The scoring play highlighted a comprehensive performance from Opara, who landed MLS Team of the Week honors from MLSsoccer.com on Monday for his contributions in a 3-0 victory that lifted Sporting Kansas City to the Western Conference summit.

In addition to scoring his first goal since last July, Opara completed 66 of his 70 passes, led all players with four headed clearances, and added two interceptions and two recoveries. In the 13 matches Opara has started this season, Sporting KC has earned eight shutouts and conceded just six goals.

Goalkeeper Tim Melia was named to MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week bench, equaling his single-season career-high with his league-best eighth clean sheet of 2017. Melia did wonderfully to save Christian Ramirez's near-post strike early in the second half to keep Sporting KC in the driver's seat and improve his league-leading save percentage to 81.5 (per Opta).

Melia and Opara are two of eight Sporting Kansas City players on the fan ballot for the 2017 MLS All-Star Game Fan XI presented by Target.

Boasting a club-record 16-game home unbeaten streak, Opara and his Sporting Kansas City side will return to Children's Mercy Park next Saturday when they face the Montreal Impact.

How did the South African Journalist get to see our training routine are we that careless

The Intensity Of Super Eagles Training Is Scary – SA Journalist Confesses

By James Agberebi:

Nigerian forward Osaze Odemwingie made a goalscoring return for Madura United in their 2-0 home win against 10-man Persipura in the Indonesian top flight on Wednesday.

Odemwingie, who was back in first team action after serving a one-match ban for card accumulation, scored what proved to be the winning goal when he converted a 65th minute penalty to secure the victory for Madura.

Madura's first goal was scored by Nigerian-born Indonesian international Greg Nwokolo in the 38th minute.

Prior to Odemwingie's goal, Persipura were reduced to 10 men on 60 minutes after Boas Solossa received his second yellow card of the game.

Odemwingie has now scored six goals in nine league appearances for Madura.

The win takes Madura to second on 19 points in the league table, one point behind leaders PSM Makassar who will play away to Semen Padang on Thursday.
