We Nigerians seem to easily admit our weaknesses n inadequacies at times buh i hardly see that from Kenyans here. Why is it?

East African n West africa, we seem somehow economically distant from each other, dont u think?

We have never refused that we have slums but the exaggaration you guys use is what we refute.saying Kibera has 2m pple while in actual fact it less than 200k.

Building houses for the poor is never the right solution unless you grow the economy fast and equally. As long as there are poor people, slums will be there, no matter how many times you destroy them. I'm especially not a fan of demolishing slums. Such an inhumane act cry

Holly Slums r illegal settlements on most occasions, so their demolition is quite justifiable.
I think tackling rural poverty is the best solution to slums

beeee, I know, i saw some mass lowcost housing projects in Nairobi when reading about their slums, buh how far do u think they would go?
Slums r very difficult to completely get rid of, dontcha think? Look at Makoko, i heard most of it was demolished, buh did it really work? Seems like it was rebuilt.
Over here in Abuja, despite the demolition of many developing shanty settlements, many new ones r still developing simultaneously n if care is not taken, Abuja will have full blown large slums like Nairobi.

Abuja can never have full blown slums.....I don't think that can happen, well, maybe outskirt of the city; anyway. mehn, that makoko is home to fishermen that have nowhere to go, u pursue them, they come back...though, its getting better every day by day.

Holly With all these beautiful n numerous sky scrappers am seeing in your Nairobi pictures, how come forgiveness was still able to disprove Nairobi having more sky scrappers than Lagos? Or are u just posting different views of same Nairobi sky scrappers?
Nairobi is actually developed and beautiful than Lagos........... I've done a research on that.

We all have strengths and weaknesses. I'm not sure Kenyans are proud, we just don't entertain someone trying to misrepresent us and write our story. CNN know better. They had to apologize after attempting to portray Kenya as a hot bed of terror, while the truth is quite the opposite. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/14/cnn-kenya-apologise-obama

The reality is that most Nigerians have been driving the narrative that Kenya is a slum country with little else. In fact, when (and the reason) I joined this thread, one thing I curiously observed was the way Nigerians were talking hard about the slum issue and maintaining that Kenyans should not share any of their nice places and achievements for the simple reason that we have slums. Kenyans cannot take a one sided story anymore. Not when the slum issue (and lie) has been the favorite story for decades. We are now an emerging economy with great prospects and vision for our country. We cannot allow the same narrative of negativity to be driven through the world media (including in places like nairaland). No, not at all. Those kinds of stories can condemn you to oblivion in many ways. For instance, if Nairobi was portrayed like a slum city, Multinational firms would not consider investing there. The same is the case if the narrative is terror, starving etc. I think Africa as a whole should make a collective effort of ridding its bad image as it continues to tackle its problems.

They are illegal but when you allow people to settle for decades then you cannot wake up one night and demolish people's homes! I wish you could follow some of the Kenyan court cases. The government loses almost all the time when it wants to destroy them.

Quite surprising, I read somewhere that the former was a tyrant in his own right. undecided Funny enough, I never heard of Yar Adua, in fact I thought Goodluck was the immediate successor of OBJ. What was Goodluck good for?

Who do u mean was a tyrant? Obj? If him, then yes. If others? Then no.

~~Yaaah, Yar'adua ruled only 2 years b4 he died~~

Goodluck was known for development.

He initiated the idea of the industrialization of Nigeria.
He initiated the revival of our dying agricultural sector
He initiated the construction of the world class centenary city Abuja.

He heavily invested in the railway sector, you can see the effects today.

He heavily invested in education for the educationally backward and disadvantaged core-northern Nigeria.

He created 9 new federal universities, thereby ensuring every Nigerian state has a federal university.

He was a man of dialogue n peaceful resolution of conflicts. He set up a National conference for all Nigerians n aggrived sections of the federation to sit n discuss their problems n grievances n chart a way forward by proferring solutions (u can imagine that! Only few african presidents have ever done such).

Many other things i can't list.

Maybe my fellow compatriots can add 2d list

Then Goodluck was a competitive president. From the outset, he seemed like Tanzania's Kikwete; nice guy with a good heart but does nothing for the economy. Good to see what he did. For the last part, I think your looking for trouble cheesy I realized Nigerians are like Kenyans in many ways when it comes to rating their former leaders.

what we people don't know is that whenever a huge project is executed, it may not be the president/leader that initiated the project.... he may just finish it off, then people will shout heaven n earth.

the centenary city was actually conceived during his tenure to commemorate the amalgamation in 2014.
those rail-line was conceived by obasanjo in 2007 but couldn't initiate it before yar a'dua came later the same year and started off the course obasanjo laid.
industrialization is not a thing that comes simultaneously............it comes at different time, and that cant be attributed to only one person.

though, he did his own part like the steadiness of pms among others.
