Celtech has completed installation/commissioning of a new J85-21 jet engine test system for the Kenyan Air Force at Laikipia Air Force Base in Nanyuki, Kenya. A subsidiary of Atec.com, Celtech has more intermediate (tarmac) turbine test stands worldwide than any other OEM.

Celtech constructed the new T-20C test system, modernizing the test platform, by replacing problematic, older equipment and analog gauges with new equipment. Along with the new T-20C test stand, required adapters for the J85 engine, the fuel system, control cabin, calibration kits and all dress gear were upgraded to complete the jet engine test system. Button Allison and David Harkness oversaw most of the construction and equipment upgrade work during their trip in November 2015.The J85 test system was finalized and accepted the first week of December 2015, coinciding with the start of the Kenyan National Holidays. The Kenyan Air Force received the latest training from Shelby Clay, Sr. Development Engineer and a 30-year USAF test cell Veteran. Performance of functional engine runs and maintenance of the equipment were the primary topics. A formal ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted to dedicate the test cell by Major General Samuel Thuita, Commander of the Kenyan AF. After the dedication, Clay briefed Gen Thuita and took him on a walking tour of the new test cell. A full, successful performance engine run was then demonstrated onsite. Gen Thuita in his final remarks was very pleased and impressed with the new test cell, and its capability to run higher powered engines up to 35K lbs on the same thrust bed. Paul Fenley, Atec President commented that “this J85 test cell is as nice and capable as any outdoor J85 cell anywhere in the world.”The Kenyan Air Force is planning to relocate their engine shop, and upon completion, will send their other old T-20 test cell from Nairobi, Kenya to Celtech to be repaired and refurbished. For what it's worth, some of the Ratels are indeed being brought up to much more modern standards whenever the funding has come through.

For example, the upgraded turrets and sophisticated fire control systems installed on the Ratel-60s. That's something the DoD has accomplished only in the past five or six years as far as I can tell.

So despite the adoption of the Badger money is still being budgeted and spent for improving the existing Ratel fleet.

I agree, a whole bunch of Ratels were upgraded a few years ago The 20s got the new GI-2 cannon which is the same one used on the Rooivalk, and the 90s turrets were also upgraded including night vision and new targeting systems.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE TRAINS PERSONNEL IN SPECIAL WARFARE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has officially kicked off the specialized warfare training of its personnel in Kaduna, in collaboration with the British Military Assistance Training Team (BMATT). The six-week BMATT training programme for selected NAF personnel is aimed at developing the capacity of the personnel to train others for Force Protection in a complex environment. The training is a continuation of the NAF’s efforts at strengthening its Base Defence system to be able to respond to a wide range of situations that might threaten NAF Bases across the country. It would be recalled that the NAF only recently held a Base Defence Retreat and commissioned an electronic shooting range as well as the newly built Regiment Training Centre in Kaduna, in preparation for the commencement of the BMATT organized training.



The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Air Officer Commanding, Training Command, Air Vice Marshal Christopher Okoye, urged the selected personnel to take full advantage of the programme. He added that they were the pioneering students, who would in turn be involved in the training of other NAF personnel from the Regiment Specialty. He equally restated the commitment of the Service to capacity building, as indicated in the training facilities, which the NAF had just upgraded to enhance effective learning. The CAS then commended the BMATT Team for their partnership towards the training of NAF Regiment personnel and accordingly reiterated that the NAF would continue to support the BMATT organized training programme. The NAF collaboration with BMATT, which commenced in 2016, is for 5 years and had so far resulted in the training of 656 personnel.



The BMATT programme was designed as a six-week exercise that would run concurrently with the Basic Regiment Airmen’s Course. A total of 66 instructors from BMATT would be involved in the training programme.

Maoists used to use 40 kg explosives IEDs to target MRVs , later they started using 200 kg + when they realized that the 40kg IEDs were ineffective.

no MRV can withstand 200+ kg blast under the hull ,so only defence is IED sweep and strict adherence to SOP as dictated by the local CT operations

Just for comparison......the Casspir can withstand 3.5 times the TNT equivalent than the CS/VP3......and you can buy refurbished Casspir for ridiculous amounts....think something like $50000 I read somewhere.

Even the most basic Casspir is protected against a 14kg blast under the hull and 21kg under a wheel.

obviously!! But even terrorist don't have an endless supply of explosives!! And most ieds have pressure triggers.... wouldn't want to waste 100kg of explosives on a hatchback, would I? See what I'm getting at?
