Bafana Star Zungu: We Have Quality, Team Work To Beat Eagles South Africa and Vitória Guimarães of Portugal midfielder Bongani Zungu is confident Bafana Bafana have enough quality players to beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Saturday. South Africa's last visit to Uyo was in 2014 when they held the Super Eagles to a 2-2 draw, hence denying the late Stephen Keshi-led team the opportunity to defend their AFCON title at the 2015 edition in Equatorial Guinea. "Fooball is about competition, we have the quality in the team and I believe we stand a good chance to beat them because they haven’t been having a good run in recent times," Zungu, who last played for Bafana Bafana in 2015 before being recalled by Stuart Baxter for the Nigeria clash, told SAFA.net. "Yes they have individuals who play in top teams abroad but we have more of a team, a bunch of hard-working young boys and we are looking forward to it. We have the quality in our team, we have the players to do the business and we have the energy to do well. "We are playing our own unique footbal, we have a lot of tactically and technically gifted players that can do damage to any team, but we just have to have the belief, we have to stick to our plan. I have seen since my arrival here in camp that the coach has a plan and that rubs off on the players. "If we stick to that plan I think we can beat anyone. I just hope the fans can rally behind the team and give us that oomph to perform because if our confidence is high, we can make things happen." The South African players and officials are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Wednesday ahead of Saturday'sAFCON qualifier Read more at http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/bafana-star-zungu-quality-team-work-beat-eagles/#u1ifMVybww575Deq.99 |

Onazi: Bafana Bafana Can’t Stop Super Eagles From This AFCON By George Ohiokhara: Photo by Ganiyu Yusuf: Nigeria midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has insisted victory is the only option as the Super Eagles get set to face South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Saturday. Ogenyi is confident that Bafana Bafana will not stop the Super Eagles this time around as the South Africans contributed to Nigeria missing out on the 2015 AFCON. “We are not going to talk about this game being about revenge; but we don’t want to forget that South Africa partly contributed to our not going to the last AFCON held in Equatorial Guinea,” Onazi told CAFOnline. The Eagles have missed out on the last two AFCONS in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon respectively but Onazi is confident the 2013 champions will not miss a third straight finals. “The last two AFCONs is what I don’t want to really talk about because it was very sad seen other countries in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon and we were not there to participate. It was a very terrible moment for me and I know that is the same feeling with every member of the team," the Trabzonspor star added. “It our resolve to win all our matches and I’m happy that both the young and old players in the team share this belief.” As stand-in captain of the Super Eagles in the absence of the recuperating Mikel Obi, Onazi has the tast to motivate the players. He added: “Part of my role is to boost the morale of the players and it is what I do openly and away from the public; I tell them we are in one spirit and accord because we love our country. The country is bigger than everybody and it is our responsibility to make the country proud anytime we are on the field.” When asked about coach Genort Rhor, Onazi said: "He is a very technical coach; a coach who knows what he wants and who knows what to do at every point in time; and he knows people who can do those things for him. That is the reason things have been going well for him and I pray that God will give us the grace so that things will continue to go very well with our team." The Super Eagles will be meeting Bafana Bafana for the 13th time on Saturday with Nigeria winning seven and South Africa winning only one game. chrisooblog: Yes o my brother. That Senegal 92 opener has my fondest memory of Keshi as a player. That winner was a goal created by Keshi and scored by Keshi. For a defender to single handedly make his way pass the midfield and tore apart the defense and then releasing a thunderous shot. All just to redeem his image after letting Senegal equalise from I think Bukande. I still remember the expression on his face as he celebrated that goal. That jersey in the first pix I posted was what they wore in that tourney. Then of course as a coach his team's heroics at the 2013 AFCON. He is one of the greatest footballers and coaches that have emerged from Nigeria. 5 Likes 1 Share |

barring any last minute ish, i fink we would stick to d 4-2-3-1 formation system: starting line uo . ....... ...... ....akpeyi.................... shehu....omeruo..ekong...echijiele ............... ndidi.....onazi.............. musa........etebo...... ..iwobi .. ........iheanacho................. |

I am not comfortable with this pattern of keeping Akpeyi out of the training sessions. It happened the last time and it is happening again. I definitely do not agree with Alloy Agu on this. Why not let him try out with the team so we can judge if he is good enough. #BringBackShorunmu 1 Like |

damagnificentusb:this your line up is decent but I'll really like Etebo to start up from the right and Iwobi behind the striker If there's a change to make in defense half time or later it'll be Shehu for Awaiziem then Omeruo goes to right back Then Kayode might just come in for Musa I don't know if Iwobi can play the full match though |

Icon4s:Yea my man sweet memories.Keshi remained d best CB to come out of Nigeria, highest scoring Nigeria defender even than great Kanu Nwankwo when it comes to goal ratio. The strike against Senegal was damn fantastic,it was a good laid pass from Friday Ekpo that found Keshi in d box and he wasted no time in rocketing d ball into d net. Also Keshi thunderbolt strike against Angola in Luanda was damn too sweet.I remember Angola was leading with two goals but Ademola Adeshina cancelled one for Nigeria and Keshi made it 2-2 with a wonderful goal. Big boss remained one of d best player to come out of Africa especially Nigeria.Keshi was d first Nigerian to ever played in any European cup final Anderlecht vs Sampdoria though Anderlecht lost d match with two goal nothing courtesy of great Vialli. I remember young Keshi captained Nigeria at Afcon 84 at d age of 22 and did it so well to d admiralty of Muda Lawal who praised him as a young man with lion heart. Stephen Keshi was not d first to turn professional but d first professional that paved way for d influx of Nigerians to modern day professional in Europe and he was well respected for championing d cause of Nigeria players abroad especially our then mecca of football(Belgium) 3 Likes |

tbaba1234: When Mane joined Southampton he hit the ground running. For the two seasons he was at Southampton playing from the wing he scored 25 goals from 75 games. After his first season he was wanted by Manchester United and others. Mane was on fire at Southampton and still on fire at Liverpool. Yes Mane took the EPL in a blazing hurricane not just a storm. |

Oasis007: Simply put and without contradiction Enyeama is the best goalkeeper in Africa. Why is he not in camp Understand Rohr is not the sole judge and jury when it comes to selection for the SE. There are still other influences. Just the same reason Sone Aluko is not invited. You cannot be a mouse on your club and then all of a sudden become a lion when you get to the SE. Because Rohr has introduced training drills to decide who is capable and best. 2 Likes |

My preferred line-up: Akpeyi Shehu....Awaziem....Ekong...Echiejile Ndidi....Onazi Etebo...Iwobi...Musa Iheanacho. Iwobi should be our number 10 Sub's: Kayode for Musa @ 60mins Ogu for Onazi @ 65-70mins Omeruo for Shehu @ 89 mins 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: It is better to be in the top team in a supposed lesser league than the in the relegation facing bottom team in a higher league. If Wolfsburg were to play Austrian Wien what do you think the result will be. So on what basis can Osimhen be considered above Kayode. Drills by Rohr or past glories or maybe more time spent on the bench. A fully fit Kayode top goal scorer verses a confirmed bench warmer recovering from Injury with just 45 minutes of football over a whole season. The comparison makes a mockery of common sense. 5 Likes |
