Gabriel Jesus is not as experienced as Aguero but Pep prefers him. Pep left Aguero on the bench repeatedly for an inexperienced Gabriel Jesus.

It is about better, not experience.

Gabriel is a very experienced top class player with 83 games and 28 goals for Palmieras. Add to that 6 games for Brazil and 4 goals.

Aguero is more experienced but Gabriel is not inexperienced.

Yea my man sweet memories.Keshi remained d best CB to come out of Nigeria, highest scoring Nigeria defender even than great Kanu Nwankwo when it comes to goal ratio.

The strike against Senegal was damn fantastic,it was a good laid pass from Friday Ekpo that found Keshi in d box and he wasted no time in rocketing d ball into d net.

Also Keshi thunderbolt strike against Angola in Luanda was damn too sweet.I remember Angola was leading with two goals but Ademola Adeshina cancelled one for Nigeria and Keshi made it 2-2 with a wonderful goal.

Big boss remained one of d best player to come out of Africa especially Nigeria.Keshi was d first Nigerian to ever played in any European cup final Anderlecht vs Sampdoria though Anderlecht lost d match with two goal nothing courtesy of great Vialli.

I remember young Keshi captained Nigeria at Afcon 84 at d age of 22 and did it so well to d admiralty of Muda Lawal who praised him as a young man with lion heart.

Stephen Keshi was not d first to turn professional but d first professional that paved way for d influx of Nigerians to modern day professional in Europe and he was well respected for championing d cause of Nigeria players abroad especially our then mecca of football(Belgium)
Thank you for this reel out. It read like a movie. The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain. Sleep on our own dear Kaiser

Hai God! So somebody is still discussing Kayode and Osimhen matter on this thread?

Even Mane that cannot score against South Africa is a topic too....plix, can we move on? Thegoodjoe and komekn, neither of you have given us your preferred line-up, maybe Osimhen or Kayode will be in it

Mane was an average Pl striker for the longest time. Lots of endeavor but little end product. He has never scored up to 15 goals in a season. 10, 11 goals for a top striker, not good enough.

Mane was not an out and out striker.

Scored the fastest hat trick in EPL history and was the top goal scorer for Southampton with 15 goals and he was a winger largely.

That's probably the most impressive statistic for any winger in the EPL. Add to that despite being injured and missing possibly up to 10 games or more in addition to 4 plus games missed from AFCON. Mane was still joint top goal scorer with Coutinho scoring 13 goals.

If that is not a Storming performance for a winger tell me what is

One Zimbabwean made the error of telling them all their attackers are bench warmers as opposed to Nigeria's attack, and they came at him hard. SA is not Senegal and they are not as tough as the Zambians, so Iwobi should survive.

My preferred line-up:

Akpeyi

Shehu....Awaziem....Ekong...Echiejile

Ndidi....Onazi

Etebo...Iwobi...Musa

Iheanacho.

Iwobi should be our number 10

Sub's:

Kayode for Musa @ 60mins
Ogu for Onazi @ 65-70mins
Omeruo for Shehu @ 89 mins grin grin

the line up is awesome....
how about musa coming in for kayode.
ever since rohr last Two competitive match in charge... musa infusion as a sub...had been productive... against Algeria he contributed to victor moses last goal and almost scored against Zambia....
I think rohr will likely stick to that formula as regards musa

It is better to be in the top team in a supposed lesser league than the in the relegation facing bottom team in a higher league.

If Wolfsburg were to play Austrian Wien what do you think the result will be.

So on what basis can Osimhen be considered above Kayode. Drills by Rohr or past glories or maybe more time spent on the bench.

A fully fit Kayode top goal scorer verses a confirmed bench warmer recovering from Injury with just 45 minutes of football over a whole season.

The comparison makes a mockery of common sense.
''confirmed bench wormer'' technically he hasn't fully started started his professional football,so on what basis do u tagged him a confirmed bench wormer, u better stop this crab about OSINHEN ,judge him after 2 or 3 seasons.

You are so economical with the truth to the point it seems you make conscious efforts to deceive yourself. I mean it in the most polite sense.

Are you not the same person someone took time to educate you that Osimhen got signed January, hit with a serious injury and the club still rushed him back to the team. Common sense you throw around should enlighten you that the young man is promising and may be quality. However, you go on with confirmed bench warmer.

Simply put and without contradiction Enyeama is the best goalkeeper in Africa.

Why is he not in camp

Understand Rohr is not the sole judge and jury when it comes to selection for the SE. There are still other influences.

Just the same reason Sone Aluko is not invited.

You cannot be a mouse on your club and then all of a sudden become a lion when you get to the SE. Because Rohr has introduced training drills to decide who is capable and best.

Did you just ask why Enyeama is not in camp? Are you Nigerian?

My line up:
Akpeyi

Shehu. Troost. Awaziem. Echejile

Ndidi(DM)
Onazi(CM)
Musa. Etebo
Iwobi(AM)

Iheanacho

Depending on how the game goes here are my subs:
1) Although, I do not envisage a scenario where we'd be trailing and need a goal to equalize or win, but in the event we trail - Musa (Kayode), Onazi (Onyekuru), Awaziem (Alhassan).

2) Assuming we are winning by a slim margin and we are hanging on for dear life - Iwobi (Onyekuru), Musa (Ogu), Shehu (Omeruo).

3) Last, foreseable, and best scenario is if we are trouncing them like 3 0 first half - Musa (Onyekuru), Iheanacho (Oshimehen), Shehu (Ebuehi).

Thanks.

Hmmmm... that was definitely Me.... wink

Wow!!! so Ajagun was no longer the discourse huh? It now became Osimhen vs Kayode??!!

Are you guys for real? Looooollll

Kayode is the team's 2nd choice striker. He is leagues above Osimhen in the team's hierarchy naa.... Osimhen is there as a special prodigy... Why is this sooooo hard to understand really? This is why it is wrong and unhealthy to prolong argument... it will always give off some bad branches and wrong misconceptions about what the original stands of the debate was about.....

Sir Komekn doesn't wanna accept that Osimhen was injured. He wants we all to accept he was warming the bench... okay fine we accept... okay... Happy now? good... let's move on... some have already littered the thread with their Poorly directed points on this osimhen-in-the-Eagles-matter......

it is a pity why people here just can't be wholistic with the truth. They prefer to color it and limit it to one view and discard all the other aspects of the truth. This is what I find most irritating with certain members of this thread... it is such a pity.

Shocking!

Nigeria vs South Africa..... that is the focus point from now on.... Na wa....

Kayode is not in competition with Osimhen plssssss..... which kain debate have you guys been having sef??

Haba!!! I thought I will come here to see enough discourse on the team's progress in camp and get views on the team's build-up and likely line-ups... it suddenly became Osimhen vs Kayode.... chaaiiiii... what nonsense!

How is Osimhen a competition for Kayode now ehn?? Is Osimhen blocking Kayode's progress in the team? Na wa ooooo....

I just tire.... and then when people like me or TheGoodJoe try to put things in perspective... it will be said that Osimhen is our favorite... that we just love him more that's why.... imagine such unintelligent comment. Trying to make everyone else dumber for reading such bollocks. Hian!

Kayode is now an integral part of the Super Eagles.... he got it on merit and is the MVP and Top scorer of the Austrian Bundesliga... lad is a fantastic player. He is there as Nacho's competition.

But Osimhen is more as a top prodigy being groomed for the near future.... he's a highly talented and top rated teen with huge potentials and matches what Rohr wants from a striker. Let Rohr do his thing.... period!!! He is making the Eagles solid for today/the present but with one eye also on the near future.... why oh why is this so hard to comprehend??

In other news shaa.....

Alex Iwobi pulled a huge stunt on Akpeyi today.... loooollll

it was shooting drills... so the ball was rolled for Alex and instead of him to shoot... he just fooled Akpeyi by Lobbing / chipping the ball over him.... with Akpeyi stranded to he ground in expectation of a fierce shot.... Hahahahahahahahaha....

Wicked from Iwobi.... Reports said Rohr laughed and so did other players but Akpeyi was not smiling at all.... grin cheesy

I think that should teach dear Akpeyi a lesson shaa.... Thanks Iwobi!

Not all will shoot directly in such position.... a few will chip/lob with style..... wink

Hope Akpeyi remembers that on matchday.... loooollll

Picture Evidence- Vincent Enyeama Storms Eagles Camp In Uyo

Former Super goalkeeper and captain Vincent Enyeama stormed the camp of the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Uyo, where they are presently preparing for their AFCON 2019 Qualifiers clash against South Africa.

Enyeama who retired from the team after a row with former coach Sunday Oliseh showed up at the camp of the team around 7pm, and held talks with coach Gernot Rohr and also some of the players.

He has been heavily linked with a return to the team, although the goalkeeper and Rohr have disagreed on plans of his return in recent time.

However his presence at the camp of the team lifted the spirit of the players especially the players who have not seen the Lille shot stopper in a while.

Bastia Indicate Interest In Super Eagles Newboy Alhassan “Mu’azam ” Ibrahim

Relegated French Ligue 1 side Bastia have sounded out Akwa United forward Alhassan Ibrahim popularly known as Mu’azam following his exploits with the senior national team of Nigeria.

Scouts of the club were impressed with his performances in training with the Super Eagles during their camping in Corsica, the city where the club is based.

Mu’azam also won the hierarchy over with his strong performance in the game proper against the tiny island which ended 1-1, a game he started and played for over an hour before his eventual substitution.

Bastia are currently working on an offer for the 20 year old , but they have been told to wait until the forward completes his commitments with the senior national team of Nigeria after this weekend game against South Africa.

Owngoalnigeria.com however gathered from sources close to the player that Bastia are not the only team in for him with teams in Belgium, Norway and Denmark also keeping a close watch on his performances this season.

Eagles Round-Up – Ogu Fittest Eagle In Camp, Iwobi’s Class Clear To See, Iheanacho PK Expert

The open training session of the Super Eagles has revealed a lot about the abilities of some players in the team who are gearing up for Saturday AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against South Africa.

Owngoalnigeria.com has been ever present at their session, with Osas Mahawi stationed to bring updates on the various drills by coach Gernot Rohr to keep the players in shape for the game.

According to Mahawi Hapoel Be’er Sheva John Ogu is about the fittest player in the camp of the team, as his intensity stays same from the start to the end of session, and he maintains his level even during practice matches. A sign of how active he has been with his team during the recently concluded season.

However the class of Alex Iwobi has never been in doubt, but this time around it’s more evident than ever with ever training session. The Arsenal man appears very fresh, quick and decisive when on the ball, and not scared of pulling tricks as exemplied with his chip goal despite the instructions to shoot.

Another player who has also showed another side of his game not usually mentioned when people talk about his qualities is Kelechi Iheanacho . The Manchester City forward is by far the number one penalty taker in the team.

The nonchalant way he puts the ball away tells a lot about his confidence when it comes to goal scoring via the spot. A trait that has never been so noticeable until recently, but it appears to be one of his strength.

Rohr : Eagles To Banish 2014 Memory Vs South Africa , Not Playing For Draw
By Johnny Edward (photo: Ganiyu Yusuf) in Uyo

Super Eagles Technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, is confident that his team won't be unsettled by the result of the team's last encounter with South Africa in Uyo, reports Completesportnigeria.com.

The Super Eagles were held to a 2-2 draw at home by South Africa in 2014 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo in a final qualifying game for the 2015 AFCON.

The draw however denied Nigeria a place at the competition in Equatorial Guinea.

"I was not there when they played a 2-2 draw, and I don't think my players will allow that happen on Saturday," Rohr told Completesportnigeria.com.

"We are not going to play for a draw. This group cannot afford to falter against South Africa."

Super Eagles remain unbeaten under Rohr's tutelage in eight games, and will look to extend his winning streak to seven wins in nine matches.

PROFILING SOUTH AFRICA'S DANGER MEN AHEAD OF SUPER EAGLES CLASH
By Solace Chukwu

As Nigeria face off against Bafana Bafana, Goal profile three decisive players in Stuart Baxter's team

It is hard to countenance that it's indeed been two and half years since that infamous meeting between Nigeria and South Africa in Uyo. It marked the end of a beginning, and a low point from which the Super Eagles are only now snapping out of.

In that regard, meeting Bafana Bafana again, on the same stage and with the same object – an Africa Cup of Nations ticket – in view, is the ultimate opportunity for cathartic revenge. South Africa have hardly built on that “success” themselves, much as it was celebrated, although in Stuart Baxter, they have a new manager at the helm, and a chance to realise their undoubted potential.

However, they are once more the biggest threat to Nigeria qualifying for the continent’s footballing showpiece. While the competitive record between both countries does not suggest much of a rivalry, there is a special glee for Bafana Bafana whenever they can play the spoiler, and they would love nothing more than to puncture the feel-good narrative around a young Super Eagles side.

There is therefore no room for complacency, and Nigeria would do well to pay major attention to South Africa’s major threats.

Tokelo Rantie

Yes, him again.

The new man Baxter has opted not to shake things up too much, meaning there will be some familiar faces on Saturday, several hold-overs from the Debacle of Uyo in November 2014. Tokelo Rantie, who proved the scourge of the Super Eagles on that night of shattered dreams, will return to his old stomping ground.

It has not been a strong season for Rantie though. He has struggled to assert himself at Genclerbirligi, and grappling with sundry injury concerns. For him, consistency over the long haul is problematic, but he has no problems geeing himself up in bursts.

He is a tireless runner, more tasking on a defender’s concentration that particularly lethal in his movements, and could prove a handful for a youthful defence that remains prone to somnolent interludes. Then again, Kenneth Omeruo would know all about that, having been raked over the coals in that 2-2 draw.

Percy Tau

If Baxter desires to break with the past and look ahead, he will opt for Percy Tau upfront. The 23-year-old forward earned huge plaudits for his performances with reigning African champions Mamelodi Sundowns this season, and possesses a wand of a left foot.

He announced himself with a cracking strike at the Fifa Club World Cup last year, scoring a belter in a 4-1 loss to Jeonbuk Motors, and is thriving upfront for the Brazilians. He is also off the mark in international football, scoring in the friendly victory over Guinea Bissau in March.

Tau possesses tremendous acceleration and quick feet, and looks to play on the shoulder of the opposing defence. Any attempts to employ an offside line will need to be perfectly synchronized. He is also capable of dropping off the front and playing in team mates, and so is certainly one to keep tabs on at all times.

Keagan Dolly

Dolly was one of the lynchpins of Sundowns’ run to Caf Champions League glory last year, and was a shining light for South Africa at the Olympics in Rio. After a tough first six months in France with Montpelier, he will be eager to prove he still has the magic.

In a South Africa side packed with central-midfielder types, it is from Dolly and, to a lesser degree, Aubrey Ngoma, that Bafana will seek creative inspiration. The 24-year-old is a busy little gem of a player, with a fierce shot on him and the ability to receive and manoeuvre in tight spaces.

Dolly’s movement, either out wide or on the sides of the opposing defensive midfielders, will greatly tempt the discipline of the Super Eagles’ defensive midfield pairing.

Onazi Eager To Win As Super Eagles Captain Vs Bafana
By Johnny Edward (photo: Ganiyu Yusuf) in Uyo

Trabzonspor midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, has played down the absence of the pair of John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses ahead of Saturday's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, insisting that the Super Eagles will not settle less for a victory against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Mikel and Moses were left out of the squad for the game due to various reasons.

Mikel is still recuperating from the abdominal injury that has kept him out of action for eight weeks, while Moses will undergo a toe surgery in the coming weeks.

Onazi told Completesportnigeria.com here in Uyo that he was not under any pressure to lead the team out against South Africa, but focused on leading the team to victory on Saturday.

"I understand the fact that Victor Moses and Mikel Obi are not here, but as the stand-in skipper, my aim is to lead my teammates to victory on Saturday," Onazi told Completesportnigeria.com .

"I was there in 2014 when the team drew 2-2 against South Africa. That will not happen on Saturday."

BAFANA BAFANA SWEATING OVER THE FITNESS OF ERASMUS
By Ernest Makhaya

Baxter confirmed that all the other players are fit and ready for Nigeria, except for Erasmus who continues to be monitored by the medical team

Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter is sweating over the fitness of Kermit Erasmus.

The 26-year-old striker had a stomach bug and he's also struggling with a suspected hamstring injury.

As a result, he hasn't been able to train properly ahead of this weekend's clash away to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Baxter is concerned that the France-based attacker might not be able to feature against the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions, but said he will sit down with his technical team to see how this affects his team selection.

"The staff have managed our injuries very well. The only concern we have at this moment is Kermit Erasmus‚" Baxter told the media at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

"Kermit has had a stomach bug and because of that he's lost a lot of fluids and been getting cramps‚ and has got a little hamstring feeling‚ and we don't know if it's a cramp or a hamstring. It's a slight one‚ but it's a concern. He may not make the full session today," he continued.

"That's the only concern we've got left going to Nigeria. We'll manage him and see how he goes and that may affect my selection and it may not, but I think the lads have done very well in difficult circumstances," added Baxter.
