Jay254: Different cities have different composition dawg Some have huge concentration of population, leading to massive development, owing to the fact that lagos carters not just only for Nigeria, but for West Africa and beyond, you don't expect same composition for kaduna or Abuja or mombasa Become educated man Don't let hatred be cloud your sense of judgment, Where is your discernment man!!!!!!!!!!!! If you zoom closely you can see clear well planned mapped out network of major roads, inner streets, estates, You can't call that a slum, which is usually unplanned like that of Nairobi, I hope you dig bro Gratias |

HOW KENYA BECAME THE CRADLE OF AFRICA’S TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION When historians write Africa’s digital story, Kenya will likely assume its place as the cradle of ICT revolution on the continent. Never before has an African nation gone through a disruption such as the digital transformation that is still underway in Kenya. With so much creativity and innovation going on, the nation is witnessing a gigantic paradigm shift. Five years ago, South Africa was the undisputable ICT hub in Africa, the African headquarters for all foreign companies looking to expand to the continent. Fast-forward five years. Nairobi, Kenya, has now matured into a globally-recognized hub for technology and innovation. Boosted by government support, interested investors, and low barriers to entry, young tech-savvy Kenyans have led the way for this evolution; taking risks, launching new products for the local market, while creating a pan-African presence with brands like Cellulant. This innovative energy that stemmed from “Silicon Savannah”, as Nairobi is known, captured the attention of governments, aid agencies, venture capitalists and Silicon Valley giants. Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt predicted that Nairobi could become the African tech leader. Google and other tech giants such as Cisco Systems, Intel, Nokia and Microsoft, have proven this faith by founding hubs and expanding their business operations in the city. The IBM lab, although Africa-focused, was built in Nairobi and its partnership with the Kenyan government is seen as a clear vote of confidence in the country’s ICT sector. The origin of Africa’s tech movement can be traced back to Kenya, which has been home to several major technological innovations between 2007 and 2010. These innovations birthed Kenya as the Silicon Valley of innovation in Africa. Now, Kenya is known to all as the Silicon Savannah. Africa is on the right path; Kenya has proved that with the Silicon Savannah, M-Pesa, the Konza Technology City and the iHub and subsequent emerging startups – producing multinational tech startups capable of listing on global stock exchanges and generating amazing revenues and returns – coming out of Africa. Today, Kenya is recognised as the pride of the global technological innovation sphere through the revolutionary M-Pesa, a mobile transfer service – which can well pass as the innovation of the decade. Kenyan techies and ICT companies have earned global praise for their ability to get with the needs of the local market Calling a taxi in Nairobi soon shatters the Western world’s outdated preconceptions about Kenya and developing economies. As the Economist notes, it is easier to pay a taxi fare by mobile phone in the city than it is in New York. By focusing on financial services and telecommunications, Kenya has future-proofed itself by becoming the go-to African market for the likely economic drivers of the next few decades. With a supportive government and a young, tech-savvy population, as well as further innovation on the horizon, Kenya is well-placed to continue on its path to becoming Africa’s leading technology hub. https://share.america.gov/kenya-africas-innovation-hub/ http://mgafrica.com/article/2015-02-19-why-kenya-is-africas-tech-hub http://www.newsweek.com/how-kenya-became-cradle-africas-ict-innovation-534694 https://vc4a.com/blog/2016/04/25/kenya-africas-silicon-valley-epicentre-of-innovation/
