It's such a pity your cousin got deported. Having an international criminal resident isn't a good thing.

I thing I know is US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a few EU countries share information with one another.

Those who are familiar with visa applications will know what I'm talking about.

Let your cousin go to lenient countries like the poster above suggested.

Truthfully he was schooling before this happened, he even got a 1 year probabtion sentence from the judge but instead of getting released he got placed on an immigration hold by immigration, detained and deported, and what they kept saying to him was everyone who is convicted of any crime must face deportation. Except the person prayer strong wella. He didnt get into anything more serious than that, the only thing is he had two assault charges, na when dem catch am the second one come show but na chick lie to the cops sey him assault her. The guy dey very worried, abeg which other country him fit try wey no go see say dem deport am.

Are we talking about physical or sexual assaults? Both of them are bad and whichever one it is, it happened twice, meaning after the first time he should've gotten his act together to ensure it didn't happen again. What do you mean the girl lied? I'm sure they investigated and he was the one at fault.

Hello Nairalanders,

My close cousin who was on a student visa just got deported from Canada not to long ago for assault, and he wasn't even done school. According to him, he still wants to travel to somewhere else to study, any ideas of which country he can go to without being refused for the reasons of his deportation? He is thinking of France, Switzerland, or Netherlands. Do you know if these countries will be able to find out about his deportation. Another thing is when he provides a transcript from Canada will they not ask why he left Canada? And if he hides it and decides to start over will these countries (France, Switzerland, or Netherlands) not question the gap years? Please I need some ideas for him. Assist if you can.

He should stay in Nigeria, there are schools there too.

True talk, but we searched the internet and found that some countries don't even ask those questions, and that their schools apply for the visa on behalf of the student. I no wan mention the countries before spy go check see am dem go come start to dey ask about criminal record. Anyway, OK I'll tell him to try Germany but aren't their programs taught in German? Yes I have heard about someone who got deported from Malaysia but later left for S.A, but I heard that South Africa isn't so good for Nigerians and that Nigerians are getting killed due to xenophobia. But that's a very good option.

Thanks man!
I recommended Germany with the assumption that he is going for a PG program.
How many Nigerians have been killed in SA?

Maybe you're right, maybe you're not but it has happened, it has happened. How can he move forward? Do you know if he can go to France, Switzerland, or Netherlands? Do you have anyone in these countries? Do you know how their study visa processing works?

I'm not sure how many got killed but according to Vanguard "Many suffered only the destruction of their homes and business while some who lost their lives were not so lucky". Yes he would want to work and study at the same time, so he can save up some more money for himself.
Re: Closed by claremont(m): 1:23pm On Jun 08, 2017
On the visa form, there is a question ''have you been convicted of an offence in any country''. He should get his lawyers to write a statement that explains the whole incident, this statement should be included in future visa applications. He doesn't loose anything by applying to the countries the people above have mentioned, he has a dim chance of being granted anyway. Don't waste time applying to USA or the UK, I wouldn't want to give a convicted Nigerian criminal the opportunity to assault my female friends and colleagues.

Do you know if Germany, and Switzerland asks that question? Do you of any good country that doesn't ask that question. And off course getting a lawyer to write a statement is a good idea.

Most first world countries ask the conviction question. I suggested Germany because Germany is more interested in wanting to know if you committed crime in your home country than outside your home country. I don't know about Switzerland.

So true because a good lawyer would know what to do to help him escape deportation, I heard about something they call ARC Authorisation to Ruturn to Canada, but the process is a bit tricky. Is there another way one can appeal? Its sad cuz Now his is saying stuffs like he thinks his cursed and so on, everything just dey fall apart for am. He's getting depressed.

Well...maybe he is one of those politicians children. I live in the US. I'm not a citizen yet. If anyone hear slap my right ear, I will quickly turn the left with thank you on top because I know how I left home and my parents. What do I gain from fighting?

I understand, but she didnt say he raped her, it wasn't sexual assault. She said he smacked her but I believe him becuz he really fought the other guy, and he admitted to that, only that the other guy said he hit him first, and called the police on him, he also admitted to that, so why would he lie to us about hitting the girl. His study visa was still okay and he was enrolled that semester; I saw proof.

Regardless, I understand you he may have lied but eventhough he lied or didn't I'd still sympathize with him and tell him to learn from his mistakes then help him move on if he can. This country doesn't impress me at all, and your blood na your blood.
This should be a lesson to others. Forget the sexual assault or smacking someone. Many have been deported for lesser assault e.g utterances of threats, subtle resisting arrest or pushing. The RCMP have also started to charge people for online threats.

You live in canada and should by now understand how the system works. If your lawyer couldnt stop the deportation of your cuz, it's not because he wasnt good enough (becoming a lawyer in Canada is not beans). Main reason is that the law is very clear on assault and deportation. People coming here especially on any sort of immigrant visa should leave the gra-gra at home and endeavor to abide by the rules of this great nation.

I don't leave in Canada, and the lawyer was his. But that thing you said about gra-gra is very true, it starts from home, Naija. People should learn to leave that life. I know this thread is going to save and help someone. And when we help someone, God helps us. What goes around comes around.

What's it? Having premarital sex is spolit. A prostitute is spoilt. A drug addict is spoilt. So when a good woman slaps you for cheating on her she's spoilt? Make some sense, or give your ideas, or just read and leave.

A land where you know the law favour the female folks, when one slap u, u supposed turn the other cheek for her. That's what ur bro supposed do. You know abroad babes always take relationship so serious that they won't like to see u with other girls. It is either u stick to her or remain single to avoid this kinda story. Even in places like US u see a gal shooting a guy just because she sees him with another gal. Singleness na sure pass bro in situation like this
