The Lessons I learnt from the story of samson

Even though he lived a reckless life he still managed to fulfil God's purpose on earth and was named in the Scriptures as a hero of faith.

Samson was stupid. Shikena.
His purpose was short-lived! He could v led Israel for longer time.
And tell me, who allows himself to be betrayed thrice in this life? Only a fool

When we read Judges and see the strength of Samson, it becomes clear to us that the Holy Spirit can bestow great strength upon man's body.Although Samson did many immoral things and although the Holy Spirit may not necessarily give this great strength to every believer, one thing is certain: if we depend upon His indwelling, we will always obtain His strength to supply all of our daily needs.

Every contract God has with men always have a clause..Samson case was one of so many. And there is a consequence attached to terminating a contract with a creator. Another lesson is that he has weakness for women. We should be very careful with women and deal with them with understanding

I was reading the book of judges last night and I was amazed of how a man can lift the gate of a nation with the pillars on his shoulder and take it to hill top. Thatz really a supernatural power. I thought within me ... If Samson was still alive, will king David had existed? will Goliath had exited ?

He now took his stupidity to the legendary phase by telling her... thinking she won't look for a convenient way of shaving his hair with him knowing.....no man is perfect though....but for a guy...Samson ain't sharp at all

[quote author=hopefulLandlord post=57404257]Story of Samson is arguably the most absurd story ever!!!!

Samson was a man given ultimate power by Yaweh but fell in the hands of Delilah to the philistines.

Delilah tried to get the deepest secret samson ever had, the secrets of his power...and the story went like this:

1st attempt: After much pressure, Samson gave Delilah a wrong answer "If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man."

And behold the very next day, Samson was bound with seven green withes..

People tell me, even the most stupidest person in the world will realise at this point he has been betrayed, but dont laugh yet as there was attempt no 2

No 2: After the 1st failed, the strongest man had no clue his most precious secret has been given away by the only woman he told but went ahead to bow to more pressure and he gave another wrong answer as "If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man."

Behold, the very next day, his hands were tied with the new ropes but is it not amazing that he still had no clue he was being betrayed?? Now at this point I am almost passing out of shock for this level of stupidity if it ever existed

Attempt no 3: Yes there was a 3rd attempt, believe me a 3rd attempt !!!!!
"If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
and yet it happened again.

Even if someone is cursed with stupidity, it cant be this terrible to now give a 4th chance of eventually revealing his most precious secret to som1 that has betrayed him 3 times consecutively..

Aba!!! bible stories??

Now guys, don't laugh off your eyes yet because the part that killed it all was after the philistines cut off his hair and finally caught the most dreaded enemy of their generation.

These guys knew his source of power was his hair, but it is astonishing that a large number of stupid people did not know hairs can grow...or did not know that they would need to shave off his hairs daily but they let him alone till his hairs grew back.

The writer (s) must be on some strong stuff; but christians believe this story!! infact they have an obligation to

D last part here shows how Gods wisdom supersedes man foolishness.... and Dts d part I love most, it's shows dt no matter how stupid we r, God still keeps his own part of d covenant..it also shows no matter how bad it seem or no matter how we v messed up... Or no matter how well d enemy may v tried... Thrs always a second chance wit God .. Becos God can never be man and man can Neva be God

What can we learn from the life of Samson? How is understanding the life of Samson valuable to our spiritual growth? (See Judges chapters 13 to 16).

Whenever I see topic such as this, I often time feel so very sad at the heresy people throw around and about. It does confirm my fear and worry that 80% of Christians don't read their Bible-they only rely on what their Pastors say and keep that in their head forever, 12% do read the Bible but for theological reasons or ego(to tell you, oh I have read the Bible back and forth three times so I know what I'm saying, some to be able to quote and impress, amongst other things) and just 8% read and study to get the revelation of the truth therein-rhema! Well, the stats is just my observation and absolutely shouldn't be taken for reference purposes-disclaimer.

Back to the topic:
I have few questions to ask you, just to stir up your spirit, as I intend not to force my teaching on anyone since the Spirit of God is dynamic and is also free for all who believe.
1.) How many times in the Bible did the Angel of the Lord appeared to any woman(women) to talk about the birth of a child?
2.) How many times would the Angel give warning about abstinence from alcohol and strong drink because of an unborn child?
3.) When Manoah asked the Angel what his name was, what was the Angel's reply?
Praise God, you see, I'm not trying comparative literature here, I want us(true believers) to seek the true revelation of the word and not as a scholar, scribe or manipulator, just to suit our own teaching.
4.) Why would an (ordinary, with all the due respect)Angel ascend into Heaven in the flames of the sacrifice meant for God?

Now, I've listened to people, even teachers alike call Samson a lot of so many not-so-nice names, then I wonder if they didn't read verse 4 of chapter 14 or they deliberately left it out so it won't counter their sermon.

Also, someone said the Spirit of God came upon Samson three times and I tell you, verse 25 of chapter 13 says otherwise.

One other thing, not only did women betrayed Samson, his friend(male) also did, when he married the wife Samson had already done the wedding rites with. chapter 14 and verse 20.

Oh God, let me not in that day of my lowest point pray for my life to be taken away. Amen.
Samson did, just as Elijah did and I just believe God could have delivered me(if he had once carried the city gate to a mountain on his shoulder, come on, he might just have survived the hit of the collapse) and perhaps God would have given him another sight(not eyes), if he prayed for it.

Let me stop here for now, for us to meditate on this rather than call Samson an idiot for trusting a woman, the same way Adam believed his wife.
cool

when footballers are in the pitch with all the heat and pressure still not performing up to expectations it's very easy for spectators sitting in the comfort of their homes to rain insults and disappointment, but force them to the pitch if they can do any better, you don't conclude on a situation when you have never found yourself in same situation, allow them to run their mouth they could be worse than him..biblical Samson

The bible says expressly in Judges 16:4 that Samson fell in Love with a woman named Delilah.
That was her name. Samson had a history of rejecting wisdom. He ate honey from the dead animal which as a Nazarene he was not suppose to touch. He went after female unbelievers, he always put people on the spot- his former wife was burn to fire with her entire family by the Philistines.- result of meeting the wrong man. His was a case of anointing without character. Dangerous combination.
All these and God still chose him to liberate his people...God saw traits in him other than what u listed out, I would say he was not sensitive enough to understand his calling...that sensitivity is where David outperformed most of the old testament heroes except Moses(Joshua too), another person I admire so much and looking forward to see someday

Lol! Sir you really raised some reasonable points. My only problem was when you now tried to make a mockery of the Bible.

First of Samson was no ordinary man. He was born a nazarite and he had tremendous enduement of God's might... Which was mostly physical. If anything Samson lacked that control over his needs, he was over confident and that was what consumed him.

Secondly, what the Philistines did is exactly what Nigeria as a country is doing now regarding the Biafra ish. Happenings that clearly lead to the worst battle in Nigeria history are all playing out again before our eyes and everyone seem to have forgotten.

Samson life should be an example for us all. Don't let us judge him that he was stupid and senseless, some of us are worst than him.

To learn exclusively about Samson life, get this book: Samson syndrome. It is a book that contains information about Samson which will help us to avoid his mistakes.

. Thanks.

myking95:
What I learnt about Samson
1. Know your enemy and destroy them totally. Samson ruled for 20 years and he did not kill up to 3000 philistines, the bible records that his body count at his death was more than throughout his entire life.
2. Never be sentimental with women. If a woman betrays you to the extent of threatening your life, never take her back unless you are planning to get rid of her. Never confuse sex with love, sex her if you must, but keep an open mind she can be the enemy. Who she is to you is irrelevant, your wife, the street slut, the reverend sister, question is do u consent that anyone can come in and destroy your life? . I'm made to believe women actually hate men by default...from Adam and eve, to Samson, to the modern day scam called marriage, divorce, alimony and child support.
3. Never follow prostitutes, they accelerate bad luck. It was when Samson slept with a harlot in judges 16 that his woes began, food for thought: what gave the Philistines the sudden boldness to bring Samson down after he had previously subdued them for 20 years? His spirit man had been weakened (recall he was a nazarite under consecration, he was supposed to embody holiness) fornication with prostitutes ( especially those ones with demonic spirits) opens a hole in your spiritual hedge for the devils to attack...remember dragon was the one that was praised when Samson finally was in chains...(it shows that samson's fall wasn't just a physical affair, it was spiritually orchestrated). Nothing good can come out of relating with a known harlot. If you know a harlot...keep that in mind.
4. Never forget your source. Not once is it mentioned that Samson went to seek God's face in prayer or a retreat, even Jesus with all his power more than frequently sought the face of God. Live with the awareness that if God leaves you for one second you are done for. ( judges 16 records that when he tried to break his bounds, he didn't know that the spirit of the Lord had left him, even Jesus Christ with all His power, once God just turned his face from him for once,

This death took him).
Never forget your source. Your daily prayer should be that God shouldn't leave nor forsake you.
5. Always keep to the terms of your consecration.

This great. Respect for the insight. I also believe he was arrogant and too proud.

Lord save me from karashika
