you are kind of mixing it up yourself, even if he wants to apply to 20 schools it's not bad, one thing he knows is that there is a school that captivates him more than the rest and that's where he wants to go, he isn't going to lose focus just that he has to have plan B incase plan A doesn't work out
well to me applying to more than enough schools simply means one doesn't know what one wants and when that happens you've lost the focus/aim of applying.
are you applying for the fear of rejection ?
or they all have what you're looking for ?
at the end of the day you choose one? imagine making a decision to chose 1 from amongst 10 schools if he/she gets accepted to all

This Nairalander 'amofun' got 8 rejects before the 9th one clicked (although na PhD). So let people apply to the number of schools they want. I believe they have their reasons maybe in a bid to spread their risk. I dont see it as lack of direction. If they get all acceptances, they will be able to narrow it down to one, compared to not getting at all.

For Masters, I like to believe that 5 max should do, but we are all diff.

This is very very wrong... applying to any number of school, is entirely one's own business which is as a result of their life's experiences. and like everything in life, we can never love all equally.

I would like to inquire if anyone has gotten a student visa with about 4 months to passport expiration. Please I would like specifics from people who know, not thoughts please. As I am aware that no one is allowed to enter the united states with a passport that has less than 6 months before it expires. Everyone is aware of the passport wahala right now in Nigeria. What do you all think about applying to the embassy with a passport with less than 6 months for it to expire (so as to meet up for September resumption) while waiting to get the new one which can then be used together after getting the visa to be shown to them at the P.O.E.

@Walspring ; pls do u have IELTS materials, Please if you do or anyone does, kindly forward it to ril1adigun27@gmail.com

Thanks Everybody!

Honestly I see nothing wrong in applying to 10 schools if you can. Different strokes for different folks.
You can add University of Alaska Fairbanks to the list cheesy

electronic:

Check if some of those schools use unofficial local transcripts(not addressed to the school) Send that first (uploading on their portal). Then if they admit you, you can send the official transcript. Finito. Just make sure that you have at least 5 safe schools in that 10school list of yours. Or else na frog jump we go give you!!! angry

Thank you all for the info, am glad am back again. "10 schools because" I will not be applying to universities in the US alone. And please are this safe schools for masters taking into consideration of getting funding too.

Tenesea Tech University
University of Tenesea
North carolina state argriculture and technical university
illonois Institute of Technology
University of toledo

since you don't have the power to know if u will he accepted then there's no limit to the amount of schools you should apply to. it doesn't mean the person has lost aim. he is simply increasing his chances of getting admitted. I believe that's the purpose of the so called "safe schools".

Don't even apply to Tennessee tech, funding is a long shot. Which University of Tennessee are you applying to? Chattanooga or Knoxville? NCAT only gives international students half funding. University of Toledo isn't a good school. I am not discouraging you, just giving you heads up.
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by OluDare01(m): 3:02am On Jun 13, 2017
No vex bros grin
As the name implies, safe schools are less competitive so you stand a greater chance of securing admission with funding. They are usually tier 2 universities. Even safe schools are no longer safe.

Wow so I have to start research again. So can you please recommend good schools with chances of funding and less competition? University of tenesea at Knoxville is the choice

Hello bro, I would say that safe schools to a great extent depends on individual applicants with regards to their profile and also the said 'safe school' ranking. Mr A's safe school might still be too competitive for Mr B based on the big difference in their application profile.

Just my random thoughts, the veterans should pls correct should the info be misleading.

adey2014:
greetings everyone. pls I keep hearing people say safe schools. pls which schools are termed safe schools and why are referred to as such.

You have HND? Why didn't you process your masters? I think from research they said you can do your masters straight with HND through Wes evaluation stuff
blacnewton:
Visa Approved! 6.30am Transcript.

So I stayed in one of the hotels mentioned here: Semi Ramis on Hawley Street, Obalende. Room is ₦4.5k with A/C

Couldn't sleep, was just singing praises and asking God for favor (I need to stress this part)

Left the hotel around 4.30am, dropped my phone with the hotel receptionist.

Got to Walter Carrington around 4.45am. I was the first person there. I just started gisting with the MOPOL Officers there.

The whole process started around 6am

I was the second on the queue. The lady in front of me went to a white lady, while the Chinese guy called me.

VO: Pass me your i-20 and Intl Passport (no good morning orishirishi)
I passed the docs.

VO: How did you get to know about the school?

Me: My cousin, who is an alumna of the school strongly recommend it and I also checked collegefutureboard and common app to see if the school meets my career goals.

VO: You are 24, why are you just going for your BSC?

Me: Upon graduation from Sec School in 2008, I did an OND in computer science for two years and a compulsory one year internship where I worked as a Data Entry Personnel. Then I went ahead to do an HND in the same course for two years. I later enrolled in computer school for a year and took my SAT in between.

VO: Why are there so many inconsistencies in your story? You just kept skipping programs, you didn't finish any. How am I sure you are going to finish your program?

Me: I did finish. Diplomas are not longer than 2 years and I did two before I went to Computer school?

VO: What's the name of the computer school?

Me: *I just went blank*

VO: What's the name of the computer school?

Me: The computer school is in Lagos.

VO: What is your major?

Me: Information Technology.

VO: How sure am I that you will come back? What will you be doing after the program?

Me: I intend working in a top tech company in Nigeria as a world class software developer, because we have just a few software developers in the country and I want to bridge that gap by becoming a solution provider.

VO: Be honest with me. Did you work at all? Just be honest.

Me: Yes I did, but they were volunteer jobs and I wasn't paid for those gigs so I didn't include it on my DS 160.

VO: Enjoy your stay in the US.

Me: What??

VO: I said Enjoy your stay in the US.

I really benefited from all the transcripts dropped here. At some point I wanted to scream "any Nairalander in the house?" but fear no gree me.

Please and Please try to do a mock interviews before your appointment.

Pray too biko. I was just favored by God today. My voice just dey shake.

Special thanks to @texrem and @Adewotired.

There was a transcript here within the last month where he had 2 months left on his passport...he was successful in the interview but the VO said the visa cannot be issued until he has a new passport. That he should send the new passport before it can be issued... i recall that transcript

So while the interview can be successful you still need at least 6 months or the visa cannot be issued neither can you travel.... some places now have passport booklet so its to find out where and get a new passport . Someone mentioned Abuja
