k199192: Yeap don't feel bad about it , most people have been rejected either for a school or a job application ... Its called LIFE ...... But its important never to put all your eggs in one basket except you are absolutely sure of that basket So if I were you , I would apply not to" a school" in mind but at least 2 schools or more 1 Like |

LOL, shey na you wan give yourself admission ni? How will you be telling your prospective grad program that your GPA is competitive? For computer science grad program, you need a strong background in some theoretical computer science courses like Data Structures, Operating systems, Programming, Databases and maybe Computer Architecture. Also your maths background including discrete maths, calculus and linear algebra should be solid to survive in a good program. While applying, I found out that good grades in core courses make one more competitive even with a low overall CGPA. You have to look at your transcripts and see the grades you had in these courses I listed. Overall GPA is meaningless in grad admission except the individual courses and grades are interpreted. No one cares about your performance in technical writing (CVE 401 or TPD 101 in Ife). From here on, before applying to any other school, send an email to the grad program director with a snapshot of your transcripts. Ask him/her if these courses are sufficient prerequisites to be considered for admission into the program. You can save a lot of cash this way. Your GRE score is not also the best considering your average GPA. If you want to compete for admission and funding in good schools for CS programs, GRE has to be a piece of cake for you. Computer Science is a very competitive course here due to the high number of jobs in the market, so you have to have a good profile to compete. k199192: 5 Likes |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by towbaynah(m): 4:43pm On Jun 13, 2017 |
Fatezee: Between 330 - 340. Other requirements include; A bowl of hot tears, 5 liters of fernented sweat and transcripts of all the schools you've attended, written in gold ink and sent in a sealed envelope from Mount Olympus. 5 Likes |

sirRiddy:Thanks really. No mind my using the "competitive" word jare. I have B.engr in Electronic and computer Engineering with a major in Telecommunications. Do you suggest I rewrite the GRE? Although some schools offer to give you something like a "freshers" course if you have no computer background. I don't have most of those courses in my transcript. The only one I have is the computer architecture but I have all the necessary math courses. There was an option to specialise in either computer engineering or telecoms, I chose the latter.. e dan dey bite me now.. |

CS grad programs have people from different undergrads. I have colleagues who are from electrical engineering, statistics and even journalism backgrounds. However, one common thing among them is high GPA, relevant work experience or research experience(basic or interdisciplinary). Based on what you said, you are not qualified for admission into most good CS programs except if you have one of what I listed above. I would advise you to contact grad program directors of 20 programs you are interested in. This is 101 of admission rules. Their responses would determine your next line of action. Of course, rewrite and ace the test if you want to stand a chance for funding at all. But remember it is hard for a grad program to give you a TA or RA if you have deficiency courses in your transcripts. k199192: |

U are closer to computer engineering than computer science, whilst someone in mathematics is closer to computer science than computer engineering. Most times the requisite for computer science states that you should have taken courses in databases, operating and data structures. The least most engineering grad is likely to take is datastructures and computer programming. This I realized when I applied to a uni in Canada. I got the break down after rejection. I don't know recommendation to give since I am still a learner. 2 Likes |

Alleybuy: Alleybuy, you can pay for eshipglobal directly via FX wire transfer. Let the Designated Student Officer of your school know you want to use eshipglobal. They will send you the link with the school code. Create an account on eshipglobal, select what you want delivered and the postal service to use (DHL or UPS). Select wire transfer. Copy the wire transfer details, buy dollar from a local BDC and fund your dormiciary account. Make wire transfer payment through your bank and upload evidence of payment or Scan evidence of payment to eshipglobal and wait. Once payment is received, your school will be notified and the carrier can pick the I-20. It will get to you one week from when the carrier picks it. 1 Like |

sirRiddy:Thanks again.. I have contacted some of them. Thats how I knew about the freshers course thing. And also I wouldnt have known what went wrong with my transcript evaluation since WES are quite reliable. Are you saying 3.54/5 is not high enough? On my WES evaluation it sill says I have 3.28/4. Do you think it was a mistake from WES? From your response you say I don't stand a chance. Do you mean that I can't get an admission in CS with my credentials? Na die o. |

I am a silent reader of this thread and i really benefited from this thread. Praise be to Allah.I had my interview on friday and it was approved. Visa issued Yesterday. This is what transpired between the consular officer and i. ME- Good Morning CO- Good Morning. ME- How are you doing? CO- Fine thanks. ME- You welcome CO- Pass your passport and i-20 ME- Sure CO- Why are you going to the US. ME- I am going to the US to undertake a course of studies in International business trade and commerce at Kalamazoo college in Michigan CO- How did you heard about this school? ME- I made an intensive search online using academic websites such as usnews, Princeton reviews and Peterson and then i narrowed down my search based on schools that offer experiential learning. Afterwards i consulted the schools website to gain information about their application process. CO- Why did you choose this school? me- I chose this school because they offer hands on learning components through excellent internships programs and summer study abroad programs. I believe this will help me learn from expert and also widen my employability skills. Among the schools that accepted me this school offered me the most financial aid package. CO- How many schools did you consider? ME- four. Bates college, Northeastern University, Kalamazoo and UMaine. CO- Why did you pick Kalamazoo over northeastern ME- I prefer to study at a liberal arts college because of small teacher to student ratio which allows for better interaction between faculty and students. C0- Northeastern is a liberal arts college. ME- Please madam northeastern university is not a liberal arts college. it is a research university offering masters and doctorate programs. C0- How do you intend funding your education ME- The school has offered me a scholarship and my parents will foot the remaining. C0- She typed for a while and said i have approved your application. ME- Thank you and have a great day. CO- You too. 22 Likes 3 Shares |

Hushee:Those acceptance rates you see are for undergrads. And meeting the minimum admission requirements doesn't guarantee admission. I got 2 admits and 2 rejects and I met all the admission requirements. I just laugh at the guy thst said he has a competitive profile and got rejected. Those schools receive a lot of applications and they take their time to fish out the best 2 Likes |

thibcyrain:Lol. Like oga Walspring will say, let's thank God. I applied to just three schools after enough research and after mailing the grad coords, yet they still rejected me. So please spread your risk and above all follow your heart. And it also depends on the program in question. |
