Chapter 6.

A gasp escaped K.C

''Wh...what did you do that for'' he asked his dad incredulously.

His dad didn't say a word instead he looked him straight in the eye.

K.C noticed that his dad's face was flushed with anger, something that used to happen whenever his dad was very upset and ready to do stupid things.

He held his cheek, his dad has already done the stupid thing by slapping him.
Who slaps an almost thirty year old man?

The slap has caught him unawares, his dad hasn't hit him since started standing up against his father's abuse at age nineteen, an abuse which the memories have become permanently stamped on his mind.

Even now, he could remember all the beatings he received from his father indoors, then outside the house he would be the perfect husband to his mother and a perfect father to the kids.

''Dad, am asking you one more time, why did you do that'' K.C rasped with his hand now clenched into a fist by his side, obviously he was boiling with rage.

''young man, what are you upto'' his dad asked keeping a neutral expression now.

''whatever am up to doesn't warrant you slapping me'' he replied defensively.

''You deserve more than a slap, in the last twenty-four hours, do you know how many supporters i have loosed, do you know how many people that have stopped being on my side, since the news of your chlamydia reached the media, fifty, Kelechi fifty and still counting'' K.C's dad yelled.

He smiled inwardly but on the outside his face held a sympathetic and apologetic expression. He started to pace around the room like he was in deep thought, he thought of apologizing but his hand involutarily flew to his cheek, and he pushed aside the idea of apologizing.

''Young man,why do you have to come out with this at this time, when my election is so close, you are about to shatter my dreams, you know that''

''You are about to shatter my dreams'' the words kept echoing in his head, this were words that he has been dying to hear his father say to him.

''why are you smiling'' his dad said and he stiffened, revenge feels so good that he didn't even realize he was smiling.

''alright, dad am so sorry for all this, but please i have to be somewhere now and it's important, i was about heading there when you called''

He turned and started walking towards the door when his dad's next words dazed him.

''stop there now, or you seize to be my son''

He turned and cast a nervous look at his father and then eyed him before walking back in.

''Kelechi, I demand we take another test now'' his dad yelled at him with coloured face.

''Dad, it's not happening, do you want to remind me of my misery, one test is enough for me'' he muttered staring straight at his father's flushed face.

''no, i don't trust you and this result of yours, you can be devious at times.'' his dad shot back at him.

Truly, his dad didn't trust him but as for being devious, he learnt that from his father.

''Like father like son, isn't that what they say'' he smiled lightly, all the nervousness gone.

His dad looked at him through narrow eye lids and gritted teeth.

''we are going for another test this minute'' his dad said angrily and then started to call somebody and soon he heard his dad's car honk outside.


Apart from the occassional blare of car horns, the ride to the hospital was a quiet one. He did think of telling his father the truth about the test but he decided against it, he didn't mind wasting his father's time and money.

''Sir, we are here'' the driver announced.

He looked around and saw that they were already in the building of the most expensive private hospital in the federal capital.

''Kelechi, if this turns out to be one of your chidish prank then i will deal with you in a way you never expected'' his dad warned darkly before stepping out of the car.

He didn't care about what his dad would do or say, afterall for the past 10 years he has lived with the nightmare of the injury his father inflicted on him with the hot iron. What could be worse than that?

They entered with his father's bodyguards following closely behind them. In less than two minutes, the nurse announced that the doctor was ready to see them.

The rich people and their crooked ways, he knew his dad has tipped either the nurse or the doctor for them to attend to him so quickly.

He left his dad and followed the nurse who then led him to the doctor's office.

He entered without knocking and closed the door before even looking at the doctor.

''where is the doctor?'' he asked the young man sitting opposite him.

''sir, please don't insult me, if that is what you came for, please use the door'' the young man replied calmly.

''are you like 19 or what, i demand to see the doctor and not his lastborn'' he said impatiently.

''am the doctor, and please sit''

He sighed and sat down ''am here for...''

''I already know what you are here for''

''Thank Goodness, so can we reach an agreement? i have enough money to reward you, any amount you want''
